The Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary goes above and beyond saving wolf dogs from often neglectful situations. They provide care and nurturing to every wolfdog they rescue or take in by request. They also provide educational experience to schools and libraries by bringing the wolfdogs for special visits. I personally know they do very good things for these animals. They took in my stepdad's wolfdog when he was terminally ill and couldn't care for her anymore. Later they nursed her, Cherokee, the wolfdog, through 2 bouts of mammary cancer. They contacted us after she passed and returned her ashes to our family. Truly good people doing truly good things.

When my step father was terminally ill, the sanctuary came and gave his part wolf ,Cherokee a safe place to live out her life. They nursed her thru 2 rounds of mammory cancer and ultimately let her pass peacefully. They kept in touch with me over the years about Cherokee which I appreciated knowing how Cherokee was and then finally her passing. We made arrangements for her cremation and her ashes were returned to our family.

In 2019 I adopted Kai and in 2023 Freyja joined the family. John goes out of his way to help as many wolf dogs as he can. They are all well taken care of with regular vet visits and good food. He works very hard to give his all to these dogs and he is always available for a chat if needed. He has tons of experience with wolfdogs and is happy to share his knowledge with anyone interested.

I have followed the sanctuary for about 5 years. I have visited a number of times and it's always well kept. We accompanied John to spay two females. We transported a litter of puppies he rescued. He adopts out any adoptable Wolfdogs. He follows up on them. He actively canvasses for food donations and money to vet all of his intakes and current unadoptable animals. He works every winter to gather as much venison as possible. Maintains freezers and pays electricity to store their food. He also maintains a preventative healthcare program. He has volunteer days to maintain proper housing as well. I donate as often as I can. He also socializes as many of the WDs that are open to interacting with the public. His knowledge of each animals boundaries is amazing. The time he puts into every animal to get to know it upon arrival is amazing. Every one of them has a story. Their water is always clean. They are fed as much as they can eat and their pens are cleaned daily. He maintains a fly control program in the summer above and beyond most owners. When I need advice with my Wolfdogs I call him and ask. He has been

I absolutely LOVED going to this sanctuary. John was awesome... taking his time and letting us tour the place and interacting with the wolves. You can tell he really cares about them. He is very knowledgeable about them, and very genuine. We went last May... and this trip was very special to me as I had just lost one of my best friends the month before. I felt like the wolves knew something had happened... especially Apache. Going to visit that day was the best day out of the whole year for me. I can't wait to go back and hope to do so in the spring. I'm sharing a picture of me and Apache.

I met Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary Inc, through my Facebook Group, April Support, Conservation, Awareness Animal Group, through a post that was asking for donations/sponsor's. I immediately fell in love with Pandora, who I got to choose as my sponsored Wolf Dog, at Ohio Sanctuary ! Since then the owner, has kept in contact with me almost daily, with updates on Pandora ! Pictures galore, and a special vial, with a tiny bit, of Pandora's hair ! The owner & co-workers are incredible ! Putting forth much effort to save, rescue, adopt out, these Wolf Dogs ! Even going out of state to rescue some ! I'm also kept up to date on new arrivals, DNA testing, to get the right Wolf Dog, with a new forever home. Some must stay at the Sanctuary, forever as Pandora is. I support Pandora monthly, what I choose to donate, which at this time is $20 monthly, for her care, food, etc. I can't say enough praise about this very special Sanctuary ! They do 100% not sometimes, all the time ! Everyday ! Here is a picture of my baby girl, Pandora I support. I'd love to go visit her one day. I live in Pennsylvania. They are an incredible team, full of knowledge for the breed ! Keep it up , Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary Inc !!!

We were looking for a Wolf hybrid, We had one long ago and she touched our lives a lot. Happened to run across Johns sanctuary. It was almost like I was supposed to find it. I saw plenty of babies on sites being sold, however I felt like giving a great home to one that needed one. For many get lost in life when people do not understand them, so my heart felt good getting one who needed a family. We both fell in love with her picture. But when we went there and met her, well lets just say it was a soulful experience! They were all there to see, very well taken care of and they all looked very happy to be there. The stories behind some of these wolfs is heartbreaking. This Sanctuary helps that heartbreak, John spend time with them all which must be a long day for sure for him. This Sanctuary steps in to help these beautiful creatures!! We brought home our beloved Shy, her name was Cheyenne but we call her Shy Moon, Shy for short. She is a angel. She communicates with us, she is very well behaved. And became a part of our family very quickly. She just needed that family to make her feel safe for the rest of her life. What this Sanctuary does for these wolves is just the most beautiful thing I think I have ever saw a human being do for animals. He is a non profit, for this man actually only asked us for what he had spent on her for vet check and no more that was amazing to us. We saw what he did there and decided we would pay more for her as a donation to his place. When we arrived a family was there just visiting them. Some who cannot have one, love to come there and visit. And this should never be taken from people to go see!! And the smiles on their children's faces said it all!!! Anyhow this is our Shy girl in pics she is amazing!! My husband says she acts like human subspecies lol, Because of the way she communicates with us unlike a dog. I know that sounds impossible...........it isn't. I would get another any time from him. I would also and do tell people about this sanctuary.

August 22, 2016 I left my house in New Jersey to drive to The Southern Ohio wolf Sanuaury to meet John BeBoard and pick up my southern princess Stormie!! About a month before I saw a post on Facebook and got intouch with John . From the very beginning he was so helpful and I can tell he has true love and passion for these Wolfdogs. Tho he was a little sad to tell me that Stormie was already to be adopted by someone else in 2 weeks .. I was heart broken and he showed me others that were adoptable tho my eyes still stared at this beauty Stormie...
We kept intouch over the weeks and one day he messaged me and told me that the lady backed out last minute... I felt sorry for the lady but I was so happy .. We made plans write away ... I needed her to get fixed before she came cause I have a Wolfdog male thay was not ready to be but nutured yet ... He gave me his vets info and I made preparations for her to be fixed within a week .. John handled all that for me .. He took Stormie to the vet then brought her back to the sanuaury to recuperate .. He took such good care of her and sent me pics and told how se was doing .. It felt like she was already here with me ...
When I first saw the sanuaury I was surprised on the containment .. He build everything himself and all the Wolfdogs were well cared for and secure... He tol me for a tour and told me about each and everyone ... I realized that most of them would not be living if it wasn't for him ... When I saw Stormie I saw I felt such love that this man saved her and now I can give her a life she deserves... I am so grateful that John puts in all the energy he has into saving Wolfdogs and rehomes them to the appropriate families... Thank Yoy John for saving so many especially my southern princess Stormie ... She is so wonderful and her and Mingo are Inseparable.. I really believe they are soulmates ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wolves have always been my passion and when I did a search on FB, I stumbled across Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary and that is where my story really opened up. I began chatting with John (under Cheyenne's screen name!! ;) ) and as things worked out, I was really lucky to have been able to visit the sanctuary. What an awesome experience to be able to meet the pups and help out with some of the daily "chores", which I would not call 'work'. To watch John and all his family, and to see the real love and care they give all their pups, is really awesome. He is always educating people, talking and sharing his love of his "babies". I wish I lived closer, and wish there was a way for me to adopt but in MD, the "powers that be" will never allow that. I hope to visit more times in the future.

I am so fortunate to have found this beautiful place. I have been able to volunteer several times in the last 5 or so months. Not nearly enough for me. This is a good place for them to come and be taken care and eventually adopted John and his family are very special people to give of themselves, so selfless. Not everyone could do this. It is a calling! I am able to volunteer still, but not as much as I would like. These beautiful creatures are so special. It's like when they look me in the eyes they are looking into my soul. To hear them howl is sooooooo amazing. The first time I got to hear them, I dropped the sponge I was cleaning their water pails just to watch them and to hear them!!!!!! They truly are beautiful. I always come away with more than what I contribute or deserve. To watch them when John is getting ready to feed them is so much fun!!!! Most of them will take small pieces of meat from my hang so gently, others are a little more grabby but never dangerous. I love being in the pens with them. I feel privileged to be able to know John and his family and to have found this special place!!!! I would tell anyone, if you want to forget yourself, and give of yourself, this is the place for you! In the picture below, he is saying to me, " awwww come on you know you wanna come in and play awhile." Thank you John and family for making me feel so welcome. Janet Graham

I had the opportunity to work at the sanctuary, and it was the most wonderful experience of my life. John and his family show great care for these dogs and he knows the personality of every single one of them. The dogs are always well-fed and well cared for. John loves his job, and there were days that he would drive, 4, 5, and 6 hours to get a new dog to bring in. The pens are never overcrowded, and he never puts dogs in the same pen if he knows they aren't going to get along at all. Working at the sanctuary has always been a great opportunity for me, and I am grateful every day for the experience.

Am beyond grateful to John and Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary. Last spring a friend who lived almost 4 hours from me passed away suddenly leaving her two beloved wolfdogs with no family to care for them. John drove to WV to meet me on the now vacant property and rescued these two grieving boys. I was so impressed with his compassion and knowledge. They were not very socialized and he handled them with gentle respect. At the sanctuary they received much needed medical care and I received updates and the comfort of knowing John, his family and volunteers would continue to provide love and a safe place.

I can honestly say that Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary saved my pups from grieving themselves to death after we lost our wolfdog, Rosie. They all lost their will to eat and play, laying around watching the door and sleeping were the only activities they did :( then I talked to John DeBoard, and he recommended that I adopt Stryker to assist my pups through their loss. This Sanctuary also saved me from a worsening downward spiral. My pups are my "children", and my husband is deployed more than he is home. My pups were/are my only constant, I had to put my wolfdog, Rosie, down because of Cancer. I couldn't control her pain any longer and promised that she would never hurt again. I literally cried daily watching my babies grieve while I also grieved. Adopting Stryker made them happy, and renewed their spirits...I also smile more, and worry less. John and Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary have also brought smiles to all my neighbors and family as they also loved Rosie and worried about the rest of us. This Sanctuary and it's caring knowledgeable owners touch and save more lives than just the Wolfdogs that they save ♡

John was so helpful when I inquired about adopting one of his rescues. I didn't chose. He chose for me. I told him about my lifestyle and what I was looking for in a companion.
He chose the perfect match for me. John gave me the support I needed as Max and I adjusted to each other. I had so many questions, and he was always there to answer. This is a man who truly cares for the animals. When I am moved into my new home, I will adopt a female companion for Max. I don't need to worry about compatibility, I know John will have the perfect fit for us!

I would like you all to know that I speak the truth and speak from my heart. I was the Animal Warden in Walton Hills Ohio for 4 years. I went on a call about a GSD in a man's backyard. I arrived on scene and here was a tan colored very thin dog. I called to it and she barreled over to me. She had 3 colors on and was very shabby looking. I took her to the vet and my vet said this was a wolf dog. She was groomed, given all shots, and a new diet to follow. I took her home and she was crate trained , potty trained and learned to trust again. I kept her one year. Fast forward she needed to be with her own. She is now at Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary. John and Tina DeBoard are the best people. They care about this breed like no other. They will go above and beyond to save these animals no matter what the situation. They are always there. I talk on a daily basis with them and you have my word that they are the best. No reservations should ever cross ones mind about this facility. My heart is at ease because I was worried about the dogs future and falling in the wrong hands again. Shes the one on the right. My husband said she is always smiling .
