I have been a foster for SCR for over 5 years. They do not turn away a cat in need, which is rare! In addition to rescuing cats and kittens from shelters and off the streets, they also provide community help with rehoming cats. SCR stands behind their kitties - if there is any reason that you can no longer care for your adopted kitty they want to help and will take the kitty back or try to rehome. Not alot of rescues do that. They are truly in it to make sure that the cats and kittens find the home that suits them best. If I could give them more than 5 stars for the service they provide for the cats, I would!!!!
We adopted Dusty and Dolly at the end of January. We couldn't have been more satisfied with Southern Counties Rescue and the foster mom that handled the adoption. She, Tawny, did everything to help out with Dusty who had a rough time adjusting. Now, both kitties are well-adjusted, growing and very happy at our home. We are the luckiest people in the world and thank Southern Counties Rescue for their services. Thank you from the Taflingers.
ZERO STARS - I would leave a negative if I could - PLEASE BEWARE! Do not trust this rescue to help with any animal in need - ever. The person who runs the rescue Julie is super rude and is very unqualified and unskilled to run a rescue and not helpful at all.
She did recommended a foster for a stray kitty I had been caring for. This foster provided an unsafe environment allowing the kitty to be stuck in a fireplace hole for 6 weeks immediately after getting him home (within 5 minutes by the way).
When I found out he was trapped way later and after 3 weeks I went and finally got a trap myself and delivered it to this incompentent foster myself the manager/owner had recommended. She told me she would have a trap delivered directly to him and then she forgot to order it!
The foster trapped him and then proceeded to let him back out in the main house again and the kitty went back into the hole because he did not secure and close the spot. It's dangerous and filled with poison and dead rat bodies by the way.
Then he trapped him for the second time and sent the manager a message and said he couldn't keep him and wanted to know if a shelter would take him after all he put this baby through he was going to just take him and dump him in any shelter nearby even a kill shelter.
That's where your babies will most likely end up if you foster them with this rescue - they will end up in a kill shelter anyway because the fosters aren't checked and do not provide safe environments. The manager/owner at the rescue then texted me and said I had to come back and get him after having him out of the hole for only maybe 2 hours.
There was no urgency to rescue him and then the manager Julie treated him as if he was not important and told me direct she had "other issues and kitties more important". I thought they all mattered, but I guess not to this rescue and they do not really care what happens.
This manager Julie is not capable or qualified of running this rescue nor is this foster Joshua qualified to provide a safe place to foster any kitty.
After this babies life has been in danger for 6 weeks I was dismissed as emotional and told I was creating negative energy and made to feel badly and it was my fault somehow.
I have him now and he is safe.
Do not trust your babies/strays with them they deserve better than this poorly run and horribly managed rescue.
They provide UNSAFE CONDITIONS and they all should be ashamed to call themselves a caring rescue.
Southern Counties Rescue's volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and very concerned with the best interests of the cats and kittens they place. From just a few hours during one adoption event, I observed their care with each potential adopter and thoroughness to make sure each cat was placed not only in a good home, but in the right home.
I personally had an extremely bad experience with Southern Counties Rescue, Inc. I got a call from AVID saying that my lost cat had been found by Southern Counties Rescue, Inc. AVID gave me the contact number for Southern Counties Rescue, Inc. The volunteer from Southern Counties Rescue, Inc. told me that a volunteer had found my cat, scanned my cat, however, the volunteer did not want to give out her work location, or the location of where she was feeding my cat! So I could not get my cat back from this so called rescue group. Beware of Southern Counties Rescue, Inc!
I was lucky enough to be at one Southern Counties adoption events and there saw a kitten and it was love, she had had a few hard knocks, Southern Counties made sure that Sugar got the best help available, even taking her to a cat eye specialist to try and save her eye. unfortunately, too much time had passed, and the infection was too far gone. I know that had they got her sooner she would both her beautiful turquoise eyes. The process of adoption is very simple, there are several meetings with the cats and the potential parents to see how they get along and an application, all of this shows the seriousness of what they do and to insure that the person adopting is adopting for the right reason. After the adoption, they are there for you regarding any questions you have, they give all new parents a Handbook that is informative and handy. Southern Counties goes out of their way to love & care for the unwanted & injured cats and place them with loving families that they deserve. I am a lucky and grateful that these two kitties choose me. Thank you Southern Counties Rescue!
This beautiful mom to be was living outdoors in a neighborhood full of stray dogs. Because of Southern Counties Rescue and an amazing foster family, this girl gave birth to her three babies on a soft bed surrounded by people that love her.
This is one of many reasons I love Southern Counties. This rescue goes above and beyond to help as many cats and kittens possible. We educate and promote spay and neutering pets, work to remove and place kitties in high kill shelters, TNR and much, much more.

Wonderful rescue dedicated to saving cats and kittens, finding them forever homes and educating people on the necessity of spaying and neutering their animals.
I cannot say enough great things about Southern Counties Rescue in terms of how much heart they put into their work, the value they bring, the lives they save, and the joy they bring to the lives of people and pets. My interactions have been nothing but postivie. They deserve all the accolates and support they can get.
We found our Southern Counties Rescue cat on the internet 2 years ago. We contacted Phyllis Elijah immediately and arranged to meet our kitty at their adoption event that weekend. Everything went so smoothly and the rescue group made the adoption a very pleasant experience. Phyllis drove Dede a long distance to meet us after making sure we were serious about adopting her. They are all so caring and work so hard and it is obvious how much they love and care for these animals. We appreciated the extent to which they checked our background and the conditions the adopted pet would live in.
After the adoption, we had a little trouble introducing our new pet to our existing kitty Lana and Phyllis helped us with advice and tips on getting through it (they love each other now). She was always available and willing to help answer any questions we had and provided us with valuable information about this situation and many others. We can't say enough about this rescue group. They are amazing and work tirelessly for the welfare of their animals. We highly recommend them to anyone that is looking to adopt a new family member!
Sincerely,
Adele and Gerard Paquette
I have had a wonderful experience rescuing a cat from the Southern Counties Rescue. They are number one in my books. My experience working with Phyllis has been a memorable experience. I first rescued a cat from this group, that did not seem to like me. I called Phyllis and expressed my concern and she knew I wanted de-clawed only, so she said. Please bring the cat back to me and I will have another one for you by this weekend. I did that and I have been the owner and lover of Dottie, a de-clawed cat I have had now for over two years.
Dottie brings so much pleasure to my life and I would highly recommend anyone rescuing from the Southern Counties Rescue group.

None of their staff is paid, so all donations go to the rescue and care of the animals. I totally support this organization as I have adopted from them.
I work sometimes as a volunteer at the adoptions every other week for this rescue group in Mission Viejo, California. I also foster cats in my home nearby for this group. I am particularly impressed with how helpful the rescue group is toward those of us who foster and in other ways support their work. I.particularly congratulate the group for the thoroughness with which they prepare adopters to adopt new cats and kittens, and the high standards they hold out for the safety of the animals – for example, indoor-only cats, how to avoid crippling surgeries like declawing, how to provide a nourishing atmosphere inside the home for the cats.
I am happy to be associated with this nonprofit cat rescue organization when the need for their services are so high. I rate this organization as highly worthy of financial support, and recommend it to cat rescue groups locally and outside of state.

I have worked with this group and Phyllis for at least 7 years. Her know-how and support got me through several litters when I had questions no one could answer. A to Z, this group has what it takes to put kitties into the homes they deserve, and families get the loving pet they have been looking for. He work with educating the public in matters such as adopting 2 kittens together instead of one alone is outstanding, backed by facts and photos so children can learn too. I can't thank Phyllis enough and she is always at hand when a problem arises. I just give her a call and I am handled! Good luck to her and Southern Counties Rescue to continue their good work in the community for the lost, abandoned and hard luck kitties that become loving companions! xx
I have worked with this group to place rescued cats for several years. When I first started rescue, I had trouble finding a group that would let me show my cats at their adoption events - they either said they were full or didn't return my phone calls. This group, however, was very helpful, both by letting me show cats at their events and by giving me great advice. They are an all-volunteer group and are very knowledgeable and caring. I definitely give them two paws up!
We have been working with this group for about 2 years fostering and placing cats. We would not be able to do this on our own. Their help is invaluable.
I have nothing but praise for the "volunteers" that take care of our rescue kittens and cats. I especially thank Phyllis Millerburg for ALL her time, traveling, vet apts, etc., and finding perfect homes for our rescue kittens. We definitely need more good hearted people like these volunteers to continue their passion for saving our little homeless kittens. Please help them continue.
My Wife and I have been working with this group for several years and they do a fantastic job. My wife has caught several feral cats to have spayed and neutered and we have fostered lots of kittens to get then old enough to be placed into loving homes. It's a JOY to work with this group.
I started working with this group after my co-workers and I rescued a feral cat and her 6 three week olds babies living in a parking lot. Southern Counties supported me through the whole fostering period and helped me place all of them in incredible homes. There is no paid staff, all are volunteers so 100% of donations goes to helping the rescued animals. Their group of foster parents are dedicated to placing these animals in the best possible home matches for their personalities and needs. All rescues become part of the Southern Countie's Rescue family emotionally and physically until they are placed, no matter their age. I've been volunteering once a month for the past year at their bi-weekly adoption events to give a little back for all they do.
I have been volunteering for this rescue for over two years. After my cat of 17 years passed i wanted to help out and save another cat. My first foster was a cat named Chloe that needed a foster home. Chloe came back to our rescue after first being adopted 6 years earlier. The people knew that our rescue would take chloe back so they didn't have to take her to a shelter. The rescue is dedicated to taking care of the kitty's know matter what the situation. They save so many cat's from the streets and even shelter's. They make sure that every cat is spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, dewormed, and flea free. The adoption donation doesn't even cover the cost of caring for these animals. The head of the rescue Phyllis has done so much for the welfare of these cats and also educating the community. I am greatful for the opportunity to volunteer for such a wonderful rescue.
