Causes: Biological & Life Sciences
Mission: The southern california marine institute serves as an educational platform for the delivery of a marine science programs for 22 major universities, colleges and foundations in southern california. Other educational activities involve middle school, high school, and community colleges from the long beach and los angeles areas. Multi disciplinary research is performed by faculty from all member campuses. Areas of research include anthropology, chemistry, marine engineering, geography, geology, marine biology, and physical oceanography.
Programs: Scmi provides education in marine science and hands-on experience to students at all levels. Scmi recognizes the importance of delivering compelling and exciting concepts in math and science to students at an early age. Marine science is an excellent expertise from member campuses, coordinating their efforts in to facilitate research efforts. Scmi provides equipment, vessels, and personnel to perform the task necessary to achieve the highest and most efficacious level of research. Scmi is dedicated to working with not only k-12, community college, and university students, but also with the general public to send a message that the ocean is a barometer reflecting human and industrial activities. Approximately 1,700 students are serviced thru our programs.
