Mission: To arouse interest among the general public in family history and genealogy; to provide an organization for persons interested in genealogy, local history, and family history research and preservation; to encourage the accumulation of genealogically valuable materials; to provide facilities to make genealogical materials available for use by persons interested in genealogical research; to present lectures, seminars,workshops, classes, publications, and other activities to educate interested persons in effective genealogical research skills; to provide opportunities for both amateur and professional genealogists to share experiences and skills; to make available genealogical supplies for interested researchers; to preserve local california records, history and genealogy; and to cooperate with other genealogical groups and libraries in promoting genealogy throughout the world.

Programs: Genealogy jamboree: the society hosts an annual four day event spotlighting leading speakers and topics of interest to family researchers, family historians, and genealogists. There were more than 1300 attendees in 2014.
operation of library containing over 40,000 genealogical books & manuscripts by an all volunteer staff. The library is open free of charge to the public five days a week on average. Over 1,500 patrons visit the library annually. Our volunteer staff also provides genealogical research support using the materials in the library to many who live out of the los angeles, california area.
one quarterly publication: the searcher, approximately 40 page publication dedicated to all areas of genealogical information and provided to each of the more than 2300 members of the society. The publication is also provided without charge to various public libraries.
This Society is an all volunteer run organization that depends completely on member donations to maintain the library and hold the largest annual West Coast-based genealogical conference.
The 30,000 item collection of books, manuscripts, microfiche, and CDs is a veritable cornucopia of clues and information concerning the heritage of all who dare to visit.
