We have adopted most of our dachshunds from SCDR. Dena is very focused on finding the right match of dog and owners, and she has been spot-on almost 100%. It really is a labor of love with her and her organization, and they have been placing dachshunds (and near-doxies) regularly for years. I always reach for Dena when we are looking to find a new doxie family member, and she carefully searches until we find the right match. I will always go to SCDR for advice and guidance, she has always steered me in the right direction for health concerns and how to live with doxies, who are crazy loving and wonderful individuals. We have adopted two dogs from SCDR and love them! They do a home inspection and keep a file on all their adopters. They really care about the dogs and ensure they are getting a good forever home! They also provide long term foster for sick or unadoptable dogs. They provide tons of veterinary care including full dentals and sterilization for all animals prior to adopting them out. Some animals come to them in very poor condition and SCDR goes all in to provide them with the care they need. Great organization, they have placed hundreds of dogs in loving forever homes.

When we had a representative of SCDR come to do a home inspection, which we thoroughly understand the reasoning behind, she seemed in such a hurry and did not really want to get to know us beyond the whirlwind look around the house and yard and snapping a few pictures. Later in the evening, when we received the response from the head of the rescue, Dena, sent a very curt message saying that our home was not suitable. I inquired as to the reason, assuming that it had to do with the fact that we are doing a few home improvements (Kitchen cabinets and replacement of the sliding glass door) and the response I got back floored me: my home was not safe for dogs or our 2 year old son. Excuse me? They said they did a drive by earlier in the week and no cleaning had been done. Again, excuse me? The tone of the email had changed from being welcoming in the first contact emails to borderline insulting. We have two dachshunds right now and were trying to fill the hole in our family when my 15 year old Holly girl (Doxie/Min Pin mix) passed from cancer a week and a half ago. And if that was not enough, Dena finished her response to me with "We have higher standards." This is why I have gone to PAL and other such organizations as well as small, home breeders when I have looked for a pet: My family an I are not insulted when we try to adopt a pup in need and do not have to jump through a bunch of ridiculous hoops. I know organizations like this want to make sure the pups go to good homes, but how in the world can they accomplish this when they do not take the time to get to know the people who are wanting to adopt and then insult them in this manner?
