My brother was a client. He let me know that the staff was caring, responsive, proactive, and willing and ready to meet his needs for job readiness, mentoring, and GED preparation. Although I am a board member, my brother's interaction with Southeast Ministry was no different that any other client. I've been to graduations for SEM's programs and you should hear the testimony of the participants! Life changing!
The Southeast Ministry has a small staff who provide a personal touch to anyone who walks through the doors. The staff listen to what you have to say and seek ways to help the client help themselves. If you do not want to get lost in the shuffle, stop by Southeast Ministry and find out how you can change your life.
Ok, yes, I'm biased. I was on the board of Southeast Ministry. But that won't stop me from recommending SEM and its programs. Why? Because for over 18 years (that's right, 18 years. SEM is not some fly-by-night operation) SEM has worked with its neighbors in Southeast Washington, DC to provide hope, opportunity, and a tangible expression of God's love for all people. Southeast Ministry is not large, but what it does it does well. SEM starts people on the right track with its AMEN (Anacostia Mentoring and Employment Network) job readiness program, keeps them going with its GED and Basic Education programs, and involves the whole family with the Books for a Brighter Future program. Moreover, SEM makes an effort to reach out to ex-offenders, especially in the AMEN program. My personal experience with SEM's programs is this: the gratitude expressed by our clients at SEM graduations and at our GED program awards ceremonies. Those expressions of hope and joy at having new possibilities, new opportunities, and a new life are what motivate SEM's board and staff. I encourage you to look further into SEM and its long-time faith-based community work. You'll be glad you did.
