I've been volunteering at the South Whidbey Commons for about 3 months now, and am really struck by the age range of people from the community who support this organization. It's not unusual to find volunteers from age 12 to 75 working alongside each other. The South Whidbey Commons provides job training to middle and high school students in a cafe and bookstore. Teens learn real skills in food prep., being a barista, and customer service, that they can then use to find paid employment. And they can get school credit! A wonderful organization recently celebrating it's 10th year.
