The generous people at SF SPCA provide life saving care for animals who cannot help themselves, who are abandoned and savagely mistreated. This kindness and knowledge of refeeding and rehabilitation gives these horses and other livestock a chance at a healthy and safe life with trusting owners.
I first came across the south Fl spca 8 years ago when I was looking for another horse. I told them what kind of horse I wanted and they were so honest and up front about their horses. My wish list of a 16+ hand gelding, was fulfilled by them! But turned out I fell in love with a little 15’1 hand thoroughbred mare. When they rescued her she was known as “la sheikh” she was a body score of a one. This horse is seriously my whole world. She’s my best friend and we’ve done so many amazing things together. Without the amazing work the spca does my mare likely would of died and I never would of had her in my life. I could not be more thankful for the south Fl spca. They do so much for these horses and it’s never about the money for them. Truly a one of a kind rescue run by a group of amazing caring people.
SF SPCA works tirelessly to save and rehab neglected horses and livestock. They keep the community updated daily on social media and involve educating children . They have so many heart warming stories of success and some sad too.
This group amazes south Florida every day with the hard work, compassion and experience to give these animals a new chance at life. I adopted a mini and a pony from them and could not have been happier with the process. They are the best!
I adopted my horse from South Florida SPCA in 2010. He is the best boy ever! They do wonderful work!
I have visited the SPCA to help repair fence and build run in shelters. Horses and other animals are being rescued constantly from neglect, abandonment, and abuse. Those in need are not turned away, no matter how thin the resources are stretched . They are provided with the best food, vet care, and training . And most importantly, love and respect. Under their care I have seen horses in appalling condition blossom into animals anyone would be proud to ride.
The transformations are inspiring! Thank you for all that you do for horses.
This institution is so important and does so much good. Ask the numerous animals….. yes not just horses, but cows, pigs, sheep, goats and many more!!
Unfortunately those places where large neglected animals can find a home are far and in between! Lots of space and a big budget is needed to house, heal, feed those creatures!! I personally have seen how horribly abused or starved horses returned to their beautiful self and got another chance in life by being adapted into a new and forever home!!!!…… and yes my little rescue dog Kiwi originated from there too!!!!
I am involved with this organization for many years. Important, necessary services are given to neglected and abused horses. The story how everything began ( a woman’s mission to help horses after the huge hurricane 1992) is inspiring and the Organisation over the years grew into a highly respected nonprofit. I don’t want to imagine how much more pain and suffering there would be without this organization. Horses in diff stages of abuse are nursed back to health and than great effort is taken to find loving forever homes. Ever so often non horses are being rescued too and forever homes found.....like little Kiwi, who changed my life for the better. Never buy, always rescue.
SFSPCA is a wonderful organization that works tirelessly for those that have no voice. We adopted our sweet Charley girl and her best friend GoatTia a few years ago from them and couldn’t be any happier. Thank you SFSPCA for saving so many horses and goats and cows and other animals and for never saying no to a animal in need!
I am extremely grateful to have found the south Florida SPCA. I recently suffered the loss of two of my horses to a tragic lightning storm in our area. One of them being a Florida cracker Horse whom I had bonded With and build a special relationship over the last seven or eight years. Florida cracker horses hold an extremely special place in my heart. With that being said I stumbled across an adoption post for Chase a two year old Florida cracker horse who was born at the SPCA. I knew immediately that I had to have him, they had lead me to that horse, Chase now known as tinder has been started under saddle and I cannot wait to see where our journey takes us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the south Florida SPCA once again, it wouldn’t have been possible without you.
We need more organizations like them in the SF area. They are one of very few who actively work alongside animal control to help horses in the most desperate of need.
Just an incredible organization! So many reduced animals are now thriving in their care!
What a wonderful organization to support! They care for the animals amazingly and try to place them in the most perfect homes.
For a while I have been following the stories of animals who have been abandoned, abused, and neglected and I have seen how the SFSPCA has improved the lives of the animals they have rescued. They have changed the lives of animals in their care such as horses, ponies, sheep, goats and thoroughbreds. The transition from being in a dark scary situation to being loved and cared for touches the hearts of many and more. I will continue to support the SFSPCA and their mission.
They are always helping others in need. They rescue thousands of animals and give them a new home no matter what the circumstances are. They are very compassionate and most of the time you see a very happy healing and adoption for those animals.
I contribute to this charity because of all the work they do to help the four-legged creatures of the world. Aside from helping the animals they raise awareness and they always speak with kind words.
They go above and beyond to help animals in need. We enjoy seeing the before and after pictures.
I love horses. Several years ago, I came to realize I may never be in a position to own one, so my husband and I became volunteers here. Best decision ever! This organization is amazing. They selflessly put in countless hours to help these neglected and starved animals recover and bring them back to their maximum potential for quality of life. Whether it’s hourly medical attention, foal watch through the night, or coordinating a rescue with law enforcement, they always put the animal first. The volunteers work together with passion and boundless energy to achieve the ultimate news once rehabilitation is achieved - the news of adoption. We cheer and then there are tears for we know they will be missed. Not easy to do, but we do it with whole hearts and bodies and together we are making a difference. I am blessed to have found them and my life is richer for being there.
This organization works tirelessly to protect animals in deplorable situations. They work miracles to rehabilitate animals that have been abused and neglected and I have personally seen first hand the work it takes to save each and every one. Amazing, amazing, amazing!
Never realized before volunteering here the frailty of these animals and the abuse they have been subjected to. But what’s wonderful is that these animals get a second chance and are taken care of by people who love them. These animals are seeing the goodness of people and in turn these animals are bringing out that goodness. It’s awesome to see a horse who was just skin and bones and left on its own becoming a best friend for a young girl spending their days together.
We visited SFL SPCA over a year ago hoping to find a forever friend for our daughter Zoe. We were blown away by the love, hardworking and dedication of the SPCA staff. Laurie was instrumental in helping us find the perfect match for our family. We brought Candella home last year and since they also adopted Teddy, a mini horse. We are so happy that we found the SPCA and are available for any questions regarding the work they do!
Wonderful organization. ................. .....................
This is Laz in Maureen’s Facebook... We have supported the SFSPCA for years financially but 2 years ago we decided to do more. So we became volunteers, it’s been such a blessing to be a part of saving the lives of all kinds of animals. They welcomed my wife & I like family. We got to see how our money helped animals recover & get another chance. Love Our Farm❤️
Ran by awesome people with a passion for animals and serving their community.
I am truly blessed to call this beautiful sweet girl my horse. Her mother was rescued by the South Florida SPCA, emaciated and pregnant. Euphoria was born at the SFSPCA and was raised with lots of love and attention. She now has her forever home with me and my other paso fino. The SFSPCA is an amazing organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses and other livestock that have been abused, starved or abandoned.
Thanks for asking! The work that they’ve shared on social media, including Operation G.O.A.T. and all of the innocent lives saved, is truly inspiring and heartwarming!
My experience with the South Florida SPCA started as a vet tech for their equine veterinarian, in 2014. Over the years of working as a tech, I saw time and time again, the great care, love, and dedication that was put into rescuing these animals, and ensuring they never again knew cruelty or neglect. So many of the cases, that they rescued horses and livestock from, were absolutely horrific, things I had never imagined people could do to their animals. It stuck with me, for the next 6 years. I have recently began working with The South Florida SPCA, managing social media, and helping further promote the good work that they do, and help animals reach a wider audience, to find forever homes. This organization truly loves every animal that comes through the gate, and takes each of their individual needs into every decision made. The COVID-19 pandemic severely affected them, as it has everyone, but they have made every effort possible to ensure that these animals don't feel the sting, and they can continue to provide safe refuge for the neglected and abused animals of Miami Dade county. This community is a better place because of The South Florida SPCA. If you ever want to donate to an organization, the South Florida SPCA is the one!
This organization is well lead and well organized. It is respected by law enforcement departments and is always ready to help them in an emergency..no matter the hour of day or night. The SFSPCA is a vital part of South Florida's community and has many dedicated volunteers .
Being a volunteer at SPCA has been one of the most rewarding experiences. Spending Saturdays with these animals who need love and care and seeing them thrive week after is so fulfilling. and the staff at SPCA- their commitment and selflessness is so enduring bc you see and hear of the stories of the abuse towards these animals and then see the passion and care from those who fight for the lovely animals. im so proud of SPCA and so happy to have found them!!!!
As a volunteer I see how hard this organization works and how dedicated they are to our rescues. I highly recommend this amazing organization
I have the honor of volunteering at the SFSPCA. Furthermore I have had the honor of meeting our founder Laurie Waggoner. Without her relentless perseverance to save theses beautiful and precious horses non would have survived. We saved over 200 + abandoned and starved farm animals and though vet fees and food for them was not in our budget we took them in with open arms and made do. At one we even took in a camel!!!! No is not in our vocabulary when it come to saving the animals. Some of our rescues have stayed imprinted in my heart forever. I never thought anyone could do such atrocities to these gentle giants. I support the SFSPCA with every bit of my heart and soul. They deserve to be rated number one.
I am a member, financial contributor, and volunteer. I know how well these animals are cared for. It’s a fantastic organization.
This organization is operated by some of the most selfless, caring, and hard working people I’ve ever met. The work they do to help neglected and abused animals is testament that there is good in the world. I have had the opportunity to volunteer with them and cannot say enough about the amazing things this organization does.
I have volunteered with this amazing organization for 6 years. The work done here to help abused, neglected and abandoned horses and animals is nothing short of miraculous! My heart and soul are with the SFSPCA and their rescues. I adopted my own rescue who was days from death eating garbage from a dumpster. The SFSPCA saved her life and countless others! I am grateful for this organization every day! Thank you South Florida SPCA!
The South Florida SPCA Horse Rescue has saved thousands of horses since the early 90’s many of which would otherwise have had horrific endings. I have often seen the rescue go above and beyond when a rescued horse, who was on death’s door, has let them know that they aren’t ready to go and that they still have the will to live and turn their lives around. There have been so many times when others would have given up. But not the SFSPCA. They truly are special. Look up the story about Amazing Grace for a very inspirational “from rags to riches” rescue and rehabilitation. This poor pony did not even have the strength to stand on her own.
I have volunteered at the SFSPCA for many years. Many dedicated, giving people have worked tirelessly caring for these horses and other farm animals that had been dumped in the Everglades, or on the back agricultural dirt roads or were abandoned and left to fend for themselves, others confiscated from neglect and abusive environments. SF SPCA is these animals only safety net here in this area of South Florida. Besides horses and farm animals, camels and emus and such livestock have been rehabbed and found homes or sanctuary through SF SPCA. There is not enough good that can be said about SF SPCA, it rescues so many 24 / 7.
Adopted my 12 yo horse, Kelso from them. He is a wonderful, sweet and handsome boy. They do amazing things for so many animals!
I have volunteered at the SPCA for a little more than a year now, but I spent every spare minute before than with my grandma and the horses. My grandma and I now own 3 amazing SPCA rescue horses. The SPCA is so amazing in what they do for the horses and what the do to help others understand how to help them. It is a wonderful way for people to get together and give back to help the animals in need. The volunteer program is a family, we help each other when work needs to get done and we would do anything to help the horses. Laurie, the board, and the staff work so hard to keep this place as amazing as it is and I know would do what ever it takes to keep all the animals happy and healthy. It is truly an amazing place and is a place that is needed in this world.
Why I give? The unbridled compassion, the willingness to give every animal the best care; a second, third, or fourth chance; the 24/7 willingness and readiness to be there and rescue, and the volunteers - community members who show up week after week and give. When a community is so willing to work to help an agency, you know it's the best.
At Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary, we have worked with the SFSPCA several times to rehome cows and donkeys they have rescued from horrible situations. Several of our residents wouldn't be alive without the direct intervention of these dedicated professionals. One of the most remarkable cases is that of Grover, a calf they found abandoned in an avocado grove. Grover was so sick and so emaciated he couldn't stand and had to be dragged out on a stretcher. Most organizations would have simply euthanized him, but the SFSPCA never gave up and diligently nursed him back to health. He is now a very happy, healthy boy who continues to grow and thrive. We are so grateful for the work they have done and will continue to do, and are glad to be their rescue partners.
The dedication put forth by this group is outstanding. Over the years I have seen them rescue horses that were certainly on deaths bed and bring them back physically and mentally. Laurie Waggoner, her staff and volunteers do incredible work rehabilitating the animals they rescue and giving them new, productive lives.
I am a volunteer at this wonderful facility in South Florida, and I can tell you that the amount of hard work and love they put in to keep these animals safe is amazing! They are truly a magnificent organization that properly cares for every animal that they receive! My personal favorite are the transformations of the horses; they are given another chance at a good life through this organization.
I have been blessed to have adopted a horse and a miniature horse from the So. Fla. SPCA. The South Florida SPCA horse rescue provides a vital function to our community. They advocate and provide safe harbor for horses and farm animals that have been dumped or victims of animal cruelty. They are professionals in providing rehabilitation and veterinary care for the animals so that they can ultimately be adopted to loving, responsible permanent homes. This is a wonderful organization.
Absolutely love the SPCA volunteer program and all its taught me! Always advocating for the safety and wellness of animals, what more is needed?
This organization is made up of dedicated and caring people who are invested in the lives of helpless animals and making our community a better place for ourselves and future generations. I am eternally grateful for the SPCA!
I am a volunteer at SFSPCA and have been for more than a year. I love the way they help the animals recover from severe stress, traume and abuse and bring out in them their most beautiful quaities to ready them for adoption and going into their next best life.
I have seen the work that this institution does to help the horses and I believe they deserve all the support they can get. It’s terrible the way some of these animals have been treated by their original owners and it is uplifting to see how they flourish once they are under the protection of this organization and the good people who devote endless hours to make sure they live a healthy and happy life.
As a volunteer I have seen the love, compassion toward many different rescues, at the same time the professional and welcoming environment the staff creates for us, we learn as we help. Thanks!
I see the SF SPCA HORSE RESCUE every day and every day I see the progress, love and continuous care the volunteers put into the animals that have been rescued from horrendous conditions. THEY MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
For years, I have followed the phenomenal work of the South Florida SPCA and today I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors. This organization is the last option for equines in Miami-Dade County, FL - for those poor animals who have been abused and mistreated, or are simply lost. Without this organization there would be no hope for them. The people who work there have hearts of gold and are so very compassionate and caring. I applaud this organization and honored to be a part of it!
Not only do they help the animals but they also help the community by offering opportunities to give back.
I volunteered at the SPCA years ago and adopted horses as well.
Laurie is very committed and passionate about ending horse abuse. From picking abandoned animals to their recovery and finding them a good home. The SPCA takes on this challenge everyday, with great success.
I have known about SFSPCA for years and have volunteered there and have seen the good work that they do. It is the only rescue, as far as I know, that will rescue horses in Miami-Dade County. They filled a huge gap by rescuing horses. They have earned the great reputation that they have throughout the state.
