The wonderful volunteers at South Community pantry number over 75. They are helpful and friendly. Always ready to go the extra mile. The result is more than 1,000 families a week supplement their food budget with meat, vegetables, eggs and milk, cereal and can goods. Those disabled or without transportation get the groceries delivered to their door! What an asset for the community,
We had a very successful cereal drive - we asked for 900 and got 6000! We serve over 450 families in home deliveries each week, to assist those who cannot get to the pantry. we serve 150-170 breakfasts every Wednesday and Thursday, and about 150-170 dinners on Wednesday nights to help feed our community.
We have many volunteers that come from a variety of economic backgrounds,
I appreciate that South Community Food Pantry is open on two different mornings and one late afternoon every week. They always make an effort to have fresh produce. They are committed to serving as many households as possible. They invite the community health van to come on a regular basis and invite other service providers, too, like free legal aid.
It is truly amazing how many volunteers, from so many walks of life, help thousands of needy people receive food. Yes, thousands! Groceries, meals and often books, clothes, etc. They really serve our citizens.
I am so excited to have recently become a member of the board at South Community Food Pantry. I am not often able to volunteer in person, but have been doing behind-the-scenes marketing and design work to support the pantry. I am proud to be a small part of this large, all-volunteer operation — the largest food pantry in Berkshire County. I am amazed at the food pantry's ongoing response to the growing need for food and resources in our community, and am grateful to all who contribute.
