Mission: SOS Children’s Villages - Florida provides round-the-clock care for foster children who are wards of the state and have been removed from their home for their own protection. These children have suffered physical and/or sexual abuse, abandonment, and severe neglect. SOS is home to up to 75 children daily. Currently, they are one to 18 years old representing 17 sibling groups. Many of the children spent most of their young lives in the foster care system, moving from placement to placement without the stability and nurturing they needed. As a result, they require intensive support services in order to heal emotionally and physically and to overcome obstacles facing their future.
Target demographics: foster children
Geographic areas served: South Florida
Programs: SOS provides each of our foster children with on-site therapy, tutoring and life skills classes. Our staff also includes a nurse to see to their medical needs and case managers to help oversee their care. Our most unique program is our After Care program for our teens about to age out of foster care. SOS Staff works with each child when they turn 17 years old, to help them make a plan for what they will do when they turn 18 and become a legal adult. Our teens who are still in high school at age 18 can opt to stay at the Village until they graduate high school. Once they graduate, the After Care program continues to offer them advice, support and resources to ensure that they can continue school, find employment, find a place to live and care for themselves and their families though out their lives.
