I was the manager of the thrift store for this non-profit for 2 years and 2 months. Although I do believe in Soroptimist International, I don't believe the abuse of power this particular branch of the Soroptimist is running. There is a lot of neglectfullness when it comes to how the employees are treated. I don't believe there to be any controls to how the Soroptimist International keep track of how smaller branches of their club are run. It is very sad when this happens in organizations that are for the greater good. Many times smaller entities of the larger whole do not practice what they preach. Soroptimist is suppose to empower women to give them a leg up. What I found with this "crew" is that they care more about getting into the local paper of "doing good"...when they treat women who are running their non profit thrift store in less than safe and healthy conditions. The buildings have been very run down. My question is, if the buildings are run down and there is no money generated outside of what the Thrift Store makes, instead of having meetings to complain about the Thrift Store...why not use that energy more wisely and do more fund raisers to improve conditions of the store, give raises, and also provide some paid sick days or holiday pay to those who do work very hard for very little? I think that is very news worthy. Providing jobs to women who need them is a very worthy cause as well as giving scholarships. But those are just thoughts. Thank you.
