The dedicated members of this organization really make a difference for so many women and girls in the community!
Wonderful organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and children.
I have been a member of Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach for close to 13 years. I renew my membership each year as the work we do to help empower women and girls to be the best they can be is such a worthy cause. I’ve seen so many successes with the women we help whether it be educational grants, personal needs fulfillment, gifts for them and their children on their special days and holidays and even helping the ladies feel good about themselves through our day of empowerment. We have also formed a human trafficking committee to assist those women who have been taken advantage of through forced labor and sexual slavery. We do good work and will continue to help women and girls have a better life.
I have been a member of this amazing club going on three years. The passion, dedication, and hard work of all of us is so gratifying in the support, empowerment and mentoring of the women and girls whose lives we touch. It is truly a rewarding experience to be a Soroptimist!
I have been a member of this organization for more than 5 years. It makes my heart happy when I see the transformation that happens by the women that we help. Our hands-on work has changed the lives of many women. We have partnered with various local organizations to uncover where we can help. Last year, we created a committee to help victims of Human Trafficking, directly or indirectly and since then we have partnered with The Salvation Army to support a safe home. Through our signature programs we have conducted career-mentorship classes to at-risk girls at Olive Crest. We have raised the goals for the 2019 - 2020 Soroptimist year and I know that we will achieve them through the generosity of our members as well as our local community.
I am entering my fifth year as a member of this great organization. Last year our membership soared by 25% as members in our community are learning about the fruits of our labor. Last year, we exceeded our goals in improving lives of women and girls in our community by adhering to our two signature programs: Dream it! Be It! and Live Your Dream! We conducted a 7-week career mentorship program to 30 high schools girls who, otherwise would not have experienced such an opportunity. We also awarded $10,000 in scholarships to 6 single moms, who are head of household and attending college. We have partnered with various other local organizations such as The Assistance League of Huntington Beach, C.A.R.E programs at Goldenwest College and Orange Coast College, Huntington Beach Senior Center, Collette's House and that's just to name a few. I am looking forward to another successful upcoming year as we increase our footprint in this community by helping other organizations who are in line with our mission.
As a member of Soroptimist International in Desert Coast Region I have attended many events with SI Huntington Beach. They are a passionate group of like minded women who inspire other women to Live their Dreams. Their annual Day of Empowerment impacts the women in their community and they develop lasting relationships with them. They provide access to education and training and are changing lives within their community. Join them as they Invest in Dreams!!
As a member of their sister club, I have watched these remarkable women make a lasting difference in the lives of women and girls. Their care and concern goes way beyond merely giving them a financial boost - it is also mentoring in every way possible. The women they help maintain contact with them for years, attesting to the bond that was formed.
I am a new member, joining in the fall of 2018. This volunteer experience has exceeded my expectations. The 50 plus club members are all like-minded women — kind, open and caring. They embrace each other, are open to fresh ideas and are pure-hearted — the members just want to help local girls and women who need a hand to reach their dreams. There are so many ways to help — it is amazing how much is done. In addition to running signature programs of the global organization, SIHB runs community programs and partners with local non-profits with a similar vision. It is really a very special organization.
I've belonged to Soroptimist for close to two years and it would take me hours to list all the good the organization has done. We have helped so many people in so many different ways. Helping financially, helping people become independent, providing shelter and food and diapers, building self esteem, teaching self protection, getting basic hygiene items to teenagers, helping animals, on and on and on.
SI Huntington Beach supports the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter and recently attended a thank you party.
Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach is committed to improving the lives of women and girls in actions as well as words. We adopted 2 moms for our Soroptimist year this year, will give 3 Live Your Dream Cash Awards to single moms going to school and often working and will host 20 women to a Day of Self-Esteem in February. In addition, we contribute to the CARE Programs at Orange Coast & Golden West Colleges. Here we are having made "no sew" blankets for the CARE students at OCC.
I am proud to be a member of Soroptimist International HB Chapter - a great group of volunteers dedicated to improving the lives of deserving women and girls in our community. This is an organization that truly cares about the community it serves and is determined to help our moms succeed despite many obstacles in their lives. I am passionate about the mission and highly recommend this organization.
I love being a part of a group that gives so much of their time to helping other women and girls in their community that need a hand up. When they feel support and respect from people who care about them, these ladies and girls are empowered to be their best.
Being a part of the Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach has been an enriching experience. The members not only have a great sense of giving back, but they truly care for the women and children we are helping. Everyone seems to pitch in to do their part in being connected to the community and the recipients of our contributions and awards.
I’ve been a member of this incredible group of women for 11 years. We’ve been working in Huntington Beach for over 50 years helping life-challenged women and girls to reach their potential. From providing mentoring to helping them celebrate special occasions like Christmas, birthdays and other holidays, Soroptimist of Huntington is there to support them in their time of need.
Excellent organization - they provide both hands on help and assistance as well as fundraising for various philanthropic organizations in the greater Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley area. Their focus is on finding as many ways as possible to better the lives of women and girls and they do a fantastic job! This is a great group of women, many of whom are also heavily involved in their own families and careers and other volunteer organizations, but they rise to the challenge to help women in need over and over again through Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach. The community of HB would not be the same without this group of amazing and truly caring women!
I highly recommend this nonprofit organization. I have been involved with them for many years and the work that Soroptimist does, both locally and globally, makes a huge difference in the lives of women and children. One of our supported charities is "Project Self Sufficiency", which provides assistance to single mothers who are trying to make a better life for themselves. I have personally mentored many of these young women and seen them go on to get degrees at wonderful institutions AND go on to have great careers, many of them becoming involved in the helping professions themselves! Whenever we have one of our "moms" speak at a meeting, there are tears and huge applause - these women have been through so much and have struggled to survive, but they power through and keep plugging away so that their children's lives will be better. I am so inspired by the women we help through Project Self Sufficiency and this is just one of many philanthropic organizations that Soroptimist of Huntington Beach provides assistance for.
I have been very appreciative of all the good work that SIHB does for women and children and have also been very grateful to belong to an organization of such wonderful women who are all gathering together for friendship and service.
I have been a proud member of this organization for over 20 years. Our mission has always been to help women and girls, and we have been doing just that - in ways big and small.
SI Huntington Beach is committed to helping women strive to become their best selves. The dedication and commitment of the volunteers to make a contribution to our local community is powerful. Fundraising, mentorship, education and guidance - SI HB is truly one of the best organizations around aided by some of the best women around!
Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach has helped our CARE Students from Golden West College by offering scholarships. C.A.R.E. (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) is a state funded program designed to assist single parents who are recipients of TANF/CalWORKs who are attending college and are guided and supported to achieve their educational goals. The CARE program was established by AB3103 (Hughes, Statutes of 1982. Chapter1029) to assist EOPS students, who are at the time of acceptance into CARE are recipients of CalWORKs, single heads of households with children, to break the welfare-dependency cycle by completing college-level educational training programs, and therefore, become more employable and economically self-sufficient. CARE was initiated at the first state-funded program of its kind in the nation. Our students have many obstacles that can keep them from dropping out of school, but with the help of Soroptimist Scholarships, students can achieve their educational goals. Below is a picture of Terry Rose one of our CARE partners, she assist our students with educational workshops, scholarships, and she is a EOPS/CARE/GS Advisory Board member. The other picture is the CARE students in which six students graduated this year. Congratulations to the Class of 2018 we are so proud of you. And thank you Soroptimist International for all that you do to help our students. Lorena Perez, Golden West College CARE Program Specialist.
Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach offers a terrific career mentorship program for teen girls called "Dream It, Be It." It's a seven-week program that helps girls at risk for additional challenges due to poverty, violence or teen pregnancy envision career possibilities and develop essential skills to achieve their career dreams. Evaluations of this program have been very positive, both from the girls and from the Soroptimists who have served as mentors.
