I first heard about Sonrisas 18 months ago. I was talking with a man who did garden work and found out he and his family are patients at Sonrisas. He told me it was the only dental clinic that took his Medi-Cal insurance on the coast side, and were it not for Sonrisas, he and is family could not afford the dental care. I began volunteering and witnessing first hand the huge benefit Sonrisas provides to our community.

I was pleased to be introduced to Sonrisas, five years ago, by a client who donates his time on the Board of Sonrisas. Since that time, I have rearranged my local giving priorities after seeing what a tremendous job these dentists make in the health and education of our local residents who would otherwise be unable to have the advantage of dental health care. The huge impact to so many low income clients is so fulfilling. Give locally, help locally.

My son, who is now almost 16 years old, has been receiving dental services from Sonrisa for six years. My son has classic autism and many of his behaviors can be challenging when receiving dental care. The entire staff at Sonrisa is patient, professional and upbeat, which has helped my son's confidence grow and has decreased his adverse reactions to dental visits. My son can now be relaxed enough to receive his cleanings and x-rays independently. I also appreciate the courteous administrative staff who make appointment reminders. I highly recommend this dental clinic for anyone in our community.

The doctors and staff truly care about patients, and it shows in the work they do every day. Having limited finances doesn't mean you need to accept limited quality care. Without this resource, many on the coast would be limited solely to emergency care. With Sonrisas, people have access to regular care at the level one would expect from a private office.

Sonrisas Community Dental Clinic has been a blessing in my life. Dr. Torrey and the other staff have gone over and above to help me. I have a ways to go, but I feel so much better knowing they are behind me. Sonrisas is crucial to the people they serve. If I ever have the opportunity to give back I will not hesitate. Our community did not have any providers of dental care to the low income and public insurance population until the establishment of Sonrisas. As someone who has been with Sonrisas from the beginning I have seen how it has matured and how valuable the services are for the 4000 clients who see Sonrisas as their clinic. The staff is exceptional.

I initially came to Sonrisas as an AmeriCorps Volunteer, fell in love with the clinic and continued working there for another year. Sonrisas has a unique family feel to it. The staff members are extremely dedicated to their work and the community. Patients are treated with respect and a genuine warmth. Sonrisas really caters to the patients' individual needs and staff members often go out of their way to help patients. The work that the clinic and staff members do is phenomenal - offering quality dental care for patients in need.

As a patient at Sonrisas Community Dental Center, in Half Moon Bay, CA I was made to feel comfortable and at ease in the cheerful yellow surroundings. The staff was friendly and efficient. As an uninsured individual, I was greatly relieved to receive quality dental care at a cost that I could afford. The bitewing xrays ( you know the ones that usually dig into your gums) were the most comfortable I've ever had taken, thanks to a very gentle and kind dental assistant. Sonrisas serves those of us in the community who are in need. Thank You!!!

Son Risas provides necessary and critical services to a population that is often forgotten or swept under the rug by politicians and media sources. The clinic brings bilingual, bicultural members of the communities served into its staff, so it avoid the pitfalls of telling the patients what they need in a top down manner. Dental care is often mistakenly viewed as not as important as medical care, but this clinic does an excellent job of stressing how important dental care is to overall health through its extensive education outreach programs.

About three years ago I had the opportunity to volunteer for Sonrisas dental clinic at one of their dental screenings at a local elementary school, it was wonderful, over 150 students were screened and each child that had a serious dental "issue" was identified and his/her family notified with a plan on how Sonrisas could help their child, what a gift! What I love about Sonrisas is the fact that they make an immediate impact, you can see results right away, people no longer have to suffer with tooth and mouth pain. No one is turned away!
