Sonoran Prevention Works is one of the most dedicated and passionate organizations, across the Arizona region, dealing with the opioid crisis. It is a harrowing topic that often is difficult for many to grasp and understand the opioid overdose epidemic, not only in Arizona, but across the nation. Last year (in 2016), almost 800 Arizonans died from an overdose of an opioid prescription last year. To say Sonoran Prevention Works is out there in the streets, saving lives, is an understatement. Last month (October 2017), the committed staff and Executive Director, Haley Coles, distributed over 100,000 syringes, overdose prevention kits, advocacy workshops, and education trainings for law enforcement officers and health professionals. It is a much needed and valuable organization dedicated to helping those faced with drug use/abuse vulnerabilities and the risk of death due to high risk behavior. I support it wholeheartedly and encourage others to do so.
