I became involved with Solving Kids' Cancer (SKC) after becoming familiar with the horrors of neuroblastoma (an almost exclusively pediatric cancer which affects the sympathetic nervous system). After learning about Penelope London's experience, I became committed to improving therapies for this disease, which hasn't seen life expectancy improvements in over 30 years. SKC was founded by Penelope's Dad, John, and Scott Kennedy, another father who also lost his beautiful son Hazen to the disease. After learning about the fledgling organization, I wanted to become involved. I worked part-time for SKC for over a year, helping Scott, John and Pat with their first strategic plan. I've had the honor of getting to know these fine leaders, their commitment to improving life expectancy and quality for these young people, and their urgency to accelerate the therapeutic discovery process. SKC's model is unique in it's approach to assisting innovative researchers in fast-tracking therapies to "market" (clinical trial). Charitable donations are spent exclusively (100%) toward research development, with none going to support the (small) overhead (the Board has committed to underwriting this expense). I have experience working with several non-profits, both as a volunteer and board member. SKC is among the best, with what I feel is the most noble of goals.
