I have been a cheerful giver and sponsor of Solid Rock Teen Center for years.
Growing up in Illinois was troublesome and awkward for me as a teenager. I had no direction or motivation and I lacked guidance. Guidance consolers were either unconcerned or over whelmed in their position. You needed to be a repeat offender or high risk to get their attention. If you were labeled as "just a teenage phase ", you were overlooked.
It took many years after high school to put self responsibility as being something positive in my life. I look back I see how much better a person I would have been if I had the an origination where I could perhaps find a better path earlier on. Its not that I was shy, introverted or dangerous I was just going through that part of my life aimlessly.
Of course Rock and Roll was something that inspired many kid to express themselves through dancing, singing along with a social connection with others.
After moving to the Phoenix area I realized a Rock and Roller from my past ( Alice Cooper ) had established the Solid Rock Teen Center Foundation specifically aimed at teens and giving them the opportunity for them to challenge themselves and their abilities.
Seems there are so many kids are under that same cloud.
Not only was I inspired by the help and guidance they give, they realize each person has a gift and they help that kid find and excel by making everything possible available to them from workshops, interaction and lessons through generous and gifted volunteers.
The foundation has had many success's through the years of kids that went on the establish musical groups, recording contracts, dance ensembles and acting.
With the recent addition of a second location in Mesa, I encourage anyone that reads this to take a deeper look into Solid Rock. If you love kids, enjoy their enthusiasm and want to help change their lives, your dollars or creativity as a volunteer contributions will be well spent in the development of many teens in the Phoenix area.
You can arrange a personal tour of Solid Rock Center, don't be surprised if Alice's wife, Cheryl is there to conduct your tour.
