Melanie and Annie helped rescue three domestic ducks from my neighborhood pond. They were all wounded with holes from hooks in their beaks, a swollen hurt leg, and bumble foot. She came two separate times to ensure they would all go to better homes and get the care they truly deserve. She even took the time to patiently explain the why behind her rescue to a frustrated neighbor mid-rescue! I was so impressed with their know how and tenacity! Thank you Soft Landings!

This organization is wonderful. They help all waterfowl not only ducks & they find the appropriate home for each individual animal. They also do hospice care for the disabled ducks that many other places don't or can't provide the time to care for them. An excellent nonprofit organization!!! Melanie has such a love for the animals it is truly inspiring.

One day 3 beautiful white geese just appeared in our backyard. We've never had white geese before, just Canada geese so it was really different to see. They stuck together all over our pond. While mowing one day my husband say the carcass of one of them at the edge of the pond. While this made me very sad, there were still 2 left. Then one night my husband saw something carrying one of the white geese across our field. This broke my heart for the last white goose. He cried and cried as he walked all over our backyard for days. I felt so bad for him. I fed the geese bread and I know now that's not good for them. My daughter named the goose Ariel. She was beautiful and would eat out of my hand. Every time I'd come outside she'd run to me. She was so lonely. I looked for a water fowl rescue group and found Melanie. She came without hesitation from TN to AR to pick up Ariel. We later found she was a he so Melanie renamed him Arlo. She got him back on a proper diet and found him a forever home. She also sent me updates with videos and pictures. He even had a girlfriend, Jenny. Melanie and her organization is such a blessing.

Not only does Melanie go above and beyond to rescue and care for animals in need, she freely gives of her time and expertise to those wanting to learn more about caring for their own ducks. The lengths that Melanie and her amazing team will go to to rescue a bird in crisis are nothing short of miraculous. The world is a better place with Soft Landings in it.

I cannot say enough about this rescue! I am so grateful for them! I was a first time duck owner. We have a small lake behind our house. My son and I wanted to raise a few ducks to put on our lake. I didn’t know much about crested ducks and their history. We bought 4 ducks total. Two were crested. We fell in love
with both of the crested ducks but I noticed one was acting a little off.. my little sweet pea was walking in circles and her poof was growing bigger than her head..She was starting to be bullied by one of our khaki Campbell ducks. I didn’t know what to do.. I started researching the history of crested ducks. I was saddened by what I was reading. I soon realized our sweet pea was having complications from her crest. We live in Birmingham, Alabama and this rescue is in Memphis TN. We were connected by someone who has a duck farm here in Alabama. Soft Landings agreed to take her!! We were so grateful that Sweet Pea might have a chance at a beautiful life.. soft landings had a team member in Huntsville, AL. We arranged to meet them about an hour and a half North of Birmingham. We put Sweet Pea in the car with sweet Mary Caroline and she arranged to have her brought to Memphis! Who would have known there were people who cared so much about ducks? When I tell friends about my experience with soft landings, they can’t believe such a loving place exists for these misfit ducks! Thank you soft landings for loving animals, ducks, birds… and giving them a chance at life!

I have adopted twice through Soft Landings, and they are wonderful! They take wonderful care of their ducks, taking in even the worst cases and literally cuddling them when that's what they need. They care for them diligently until the ducks find great homes. I cannot speak highly enough of this organization and the wonderful people who run it!

Soft Landings graciously took in a domestic blind mallard that I rescued and was fostering in Florida. I'm so happy he has a wonderful loving home there where he's been paired with another blind duck. They are very experienced, passionate and caring and send photos and keep me up to date how he's doing which is so appreciated. Please support this wonderful organization!!
