Mission: Third Street Music School Settlement provides high-quality music and dance education through on-site, public school and community programs, as well as an arts-infused preschool, to New Yorkers of all ages, regardless of background, artistic ability or economic circumstance. Third Street’s programs are taught by exceptional faculty in an environment that nurtures individual achievement and creativity, affording students the opportunity to reach their full artistic potential while developing a life-long love of the arts.
Results: Over 125 years, Third Street has served tens of thousands of students across five boroughs. Last year, Third Street served a total of 5,262 students: 1,973 students in our weekday after-school, preschool, weekend, and summer programs at our headquarters (235 E. 11th St. in the East Village); and 3,289 Pre-K to 12th grade students through our public school and community partnerships program, Third Street Partners, which sends teaching artists into classrooms across New York City. Student demographics were as follows: 27% Hispanic, 30% Caucasian, 22% Asian, 14% African, and 7% other. Although Third Street attracted students from throughout the greater metropolitan area, approximately 77% of students came from local lower Manhattan neighborhoods. Moving forward, Third Street will continue to serve students across the five boroughs and deepen our work in the community by expanding our public school and community partnerships, strengthening our core music and dance curriculum, increasing financial aid, and introducing new learning opportunities for all of our students.
