We first visited the shelter the day after our Golden passed. We needed a new family member. We found a little puppy that we were interested in. We took him into the room to interact with him and the staff was very helpful in telling us about him. We submitted an application, but found out that others had as well. The staff said we had to wait until the other application's waiting period was over. We left, hopeful that we'd get a positive call. We finally did get that call telling us we could come up for him. Once we got there and processed the paperwork, the staff helping us had said they were pulling for us to get him because they hadn't thought very much of the other applicants. About 2 months later, we decided to add another dog to the family, so we went back up and found an older (6-8mos) pup that we thought would work well for us. We interacted with him by ourselves, then decided to bring our other dog to the shelter so we can see how they'd interact. Everyone there was so extremely helpful with this process. If they weren't there to help us through that, I don't think we would've got the 2nd dog. The two are best buddies now. They are the greatest joys in our lives! We thank the SPCA every day for them. As a constructive note, I think the SPCA needs to be more proactive on networking the animals they have there to try and find them homes.
