Causes: Food, Food, Agriculture & Nutrition
Mission: Snoqualmie valley food bank leads the effort to feed, educate and advocate ending hunger in the snoqualmie valley. Our organization is founded on our core values of collaboration, compassion, integrity, honor and accountability.
Programs: Svfb is run by a ten member working board of directors, an executive director, operations manager, inventory coordinator and client services specialist. Collectively they bring a wealth of experience in running food banks, bring years of non-profit expertise and have dedicated many hours over their lifetime to serving others within their community. We rely on over 100 volunteers to run the food bank operations. In 2017, volunteers accrued 10,654 donated hours. In 2017, a total of 14,319 household visits and 33,312 individual visits were recorded. The majority of our clients are considered the most vulnerable with 31% children and 22% seniors. Each monday seniors have an opportunity to shop at a slower pace, use shopping carts and receive extra help if needed. Svfb partners with state food providers, northwest harvest and food lifeline. Combined resources from our industry partners, an established grocery rescue program, food drives and food purchased allowed us to distribute 782,915 pounds of food within our community in 2017.
in an effort to address specific needs in our community we develop supplemental programs such as our meals for the break program. This program bridges the gap by providing breakfast, lunch and snack items during the weeks of winter, spring and summer breaks from school. For 2017, svfb provided 10,638 meals and snacks we also partner with the ymca during our summer programming and they provide a sack lunch and activities for our valley youth. In 2017, we added a mobile food bank program. With the help of a generous grant from the employees community fund of boeing, we purchased a refrigerated van. To better serve our community, we provide nutritional foods and outreach programs at our new mobile distribution sites.
pet food distribution: we partner with snoqualmie valley pet food bank, who provides over 200 pets with food and supplies each month. Baby & children needs: diapers, baby food and formula are provided weekly by our partner eastside baby corner. Our office staff meet directly with clients to fill other needs such as baby cribs, car seats, clothes and more. Back to school supplies and shoes: we partner with local churches that gather school supplies, back packs and new shoes for each child to start the school year. In 2017, 247 students received new school shoes and 300 students received backpack and supplies. Holiday giving tree: we partner with the snoqualmie valley kiwanis and registered 411 youth to receive holiday gifts in 2017. Resource office: we are an assisting partner agency with washington connection and help clients apply for food stamps, child care and more. In addition, we work with several different social service agencies such as department of social and health services (dshs), within reach and sound mental health. Representatives from these partners visit our food bank and assist clients with health insurance, housing, mental health and more.
