Causes: Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement
Mission: Educational outreach and literacy for underserved populations.
Programs: In 2017, smart family literacy, inc. Served 5,185 children, 908 parents, 703 families, 544 teachers, and worked with about 512 volunteers (duplicative counts) in direct educational presentations with hands-on activities in science, math, art, reading and technology. Our non-duplicative estimate of children reached is 4,000. In addition, our partnership with medical clinics distributed 5,185 children's books. With an ongoing used book drive, we collected 10,005 books for recirculation and recieved about 5,000 new books as an in-kind donation for children affected by hurricane harvey. In total, we gave 20,322 children's books to families, predominantly those with young children, in a community with high economic need, esl, and special needs.
