Mission: The congregation of the sisters of st. Joseph became increasingly concerned for their neighbors as the hilltop neighborhood declined. Founded in 2001, dear neighbor ministries grew out of that concern. Using a combination of financial support, case management and individualized strategies, dear neighbor ministries helps hilltop individuals and families in crisis achieve greater stability and progress towards self-sufficiency.
Programs: See schedule odear neighbor ministries provides direct assistance to meet immediate and basic needs of families living in the hilltop neighborhood, such as rent, utilities, transportation, and food assistance. Additional services include representative payee and tax preparation for low to moderate income people at no cost to them. The objective for dear neighbor ministries is to walk with those in need to find resources and develop individual skills in order to provide more long term services to families who are working their way out of poverty. A 15 week getting ahead in a just getting by world class is offered twice a year to help families move out of poverty one at a time. Dear neighbor ministries has also increased focus on the work with neighborhood children: weekly activities at the lord's diner food truck which comes to hilltop daily and initiating a 4h spin club which provides new experiences that would otherwise not be available. Dear neighbor is actively involved with the neighborhood association, working to improve conditions in the hilltop neighborhood.
I highly recommend giving to Sisters of St. Joseph Dear Neighbor Ministries. I have donated to this organization since 2004, and it has always been a rewarding experience for me to see the money go to great use directly in the community. This group of ladies believes in the mission of helping others, and in so doing, achieving closeness with Christ. I only heard of the organization because I lived for three years in Missouri; I am from Mississippi and have lived in the South most of my life. I give to them as often as I possibly can, and never have regretted it or questioned the use of the money. A great group of ladies and a wonderful, honestly run organization. Your money will not go to a CEO, but directly to the needs of the community and ministry.
