Mission: To provide awareness and education about sudden infant death syndrome (sids)
Programs: *publishes, promotes and distributes three books--the sids & infant death survival guide, its spanish-language counterpart, and the children's picturebook dancing on the moon, which helps children through grief. The sids books, both english and spanish, provide information and comfort to grieving families and friends and professionals who seek to help them, and more than 30,000 copies have been donated or sold (many to sids support groups and to public libraries at discount prices) since the book was published in 1994. *provision of support to bereaved families via our nationwide network of peer contacts (other family members and professionals who have lost babies tosids), a website, referrals, and family events such as an annual charity "remembrance" walk. *grief support and medical research programs promoted through an annual "swimathon" and an annual "walkathon. " *educates health-care providers, funeral homes' staff, emergency responders, medical examiners, religious institutions, child-care providers, families who've suffered an infant death, and the general public about sids and about helping grieving families. *educates the general public about cribs for kids, a safe-sleep education program that provides free cribs to low-income families, and helps facilitate the cribs for kids program run by sids midatlantic.
