Even though I've been a HR Professional for over 30 years, I'd never attended a National SHRM Conference and Expo until June 2019. Having made a decision to work for a smaller, family owned company as a HR Department of One, I wanted to learn more about being an HRDOO, but couldn't afford to go, so I applied for a Scholarship with the SHRM Foundation and I was able to attend. My scholarship was newly endowed and I got to meet the person who made it possible at one of the event dinners. I was an experience I'll never forget and I was able to network with so many new people and learn better ways of working as a department of one. Scholarships are only a small part of the great work the SHRM Foundations does each year. I'm looking forward to the focus in 2020!
In June 2019, at the SHRM19 annual conference held in Las Vegas, I attended The Veterans at Work Program, fully sponsored by the SHRM Foundation.
Through this multi-faceted program, I learnt the value that skilled veterans bring to the civilian workplace. How to attract, develop and retain veterans, through uniquely designed talent acquisition management methodology and value proposition.

The SHRM Foundation provided financial support to me which allowed me to reach a professional goal and become certified as a Sr. HR Professional. I support the SHRM Foundation to assist others who wish to pursue their dreams in the HR Profession.
