Shepherds Refuge was a great time of refreshing and renewal. Rudie and Sandy were the kindest most gracious hosts. My husband and I came back with a renewed purpose and energy for ministry.
My wife and I stayed at Shepherds Refuge in 2018. We really needed a getaway to reevaluate what God was doing in our ministry. The hospitality was gracious, our room upstairs was great. (Favorite, was the whirlpool tub.) Privacy was at a premium and we only interacted with the owners of the home when we chose to. We had many opportunities to take in the view from the back deck overlooking the mountains and we could hear God's voice. This time alone with the Pastors wife was much needed and will always be cherished. Hopefully we will return again someday for the solitude.
Shepherd's Refuge is a wonderful place, located in a beautiful part of the country. Nestled in the woods atop a mountain in Northeastern Georgia, it is a peaceful haven for those in ministry that need some time away to relax and be rejuvenated. Two very comfortable log cabins and a private room in the host's home are made available for those in full time ministry that need a refreshing time away from all of their many responsibilities. My wife and I have been blessed to spend a week there at three different times. The hosts - Ruedi and Sandy are a such a joy, and our times spent there have been a real gift to us. I would highly recommend the Shepherd's Refuge to anyone in ministry who is in need of a peaceful time and place to relax and be renewed!
God has placed grace upon this special place for those who needs spiritual renewal and restoration. God's presence is all over Shepherds Refuge. We have experienced it for ourselves!
God Grace & Love,
Pastors Miller & Mary
We have been blessed to stay in the Selah cabin three times and we love it! Everything we need is there and it is comfortable and cozy and relaxing. Ruedi and Sandy are excellent hosts and welcoming. We always appreciate their smiles and kind hearts!
Shepherds Refuge lived up to its name and I highly recommend it for pastors and ministry leaders. My wife and I began our sabbatical enjoying a cabin tucked away and unplugged from the world at Shepherds Refuge. The cabin had everything we needed to just focus on our relationship with God and one another. We went on hikes and prayer walks around the cabin and visited local sight seeing venues. Ruedi and Sandy invited us for lunch and we got to share our stories of how God has moved in our lives. The whole time was more than we could ask or imagine. That is how God refreshes the hearts of the saints. I recommend and support this needed effort and hope that many of my colleagues will take the time to take refuge with the Selah ministries. Our goal is to return soon to Shepherds Refuge.
Shepherd's Refuge was a great place for me & my wife to rest, relax, reflect, relate to one another, and and spend time with God thorugh His Word & Prayer.
The hosts were very friendly and hospitable. The Selah Cabin was very spacious, gorgeous, and clean. I have been recommending Shepherd's Refuge to several pastors. We plan to return to be with Reudi & Sandy (the hosts) and stay in Selah Cabin.
We have experienced unmatched hospitality and true sabbath rest, at Shepherd's Refuge, several times, in the past 10 years. It has become our favorite place to seek rest and refreshment in the Lord's presence, whenever we come back to the United States, from service abroad. From the moment you arrive there, you feel the LOVE - from the warm greeting of the hosts, to the delicious home-cooked meals, from the beauty of the property to the sereine atmosphere bathed in the prayers of the team of intercessors, from authentic fellowship to the blessing of "silence", everything speaks of our great Father's love, which refreshes the parched recesses of our souls. A much-needed stop in our frantic lives. A place to come back to. An invitation to cultivate that place of rest and intimacy with the Father, wherever we are.
The service provided to "clients" (pastors and missionaries) is outstanding. A great example of excellence and true dedication on the part of the Shepherd's Refuge team. A big shoutout to all!
Gods blessing and anointing is truly on this ministry. I have never felt more loved, taken care of and relaxed anywhere in 30 years of ministry. Accommodations were first class and so was my hosts. A place to reconnect and re-discover everything that's meaningful in your life. I can't wait to come back
We've come to Shepherd's Refuge for years! It is our annual anniversary celebration spot. Ruedi and Sandi are incredibly gracious hosts and every need is met. The beauty and serenity of the area is used for a time of great refreshing. We intend to keep coming every year!
Wonderfully relaxing oasis for my wife and I. We didn’t realize just how much we needed that time away until we were gifted with this precious retreat.
Shepherd's Refuge- Selah Ministries Inc. provided a much needed respite for me and opportunity to get away and reconnect with God. Which has enabled me to not only grow deeper in my relationship with God, but in turn has impacted those I serve every day. Without their ministry I would not have been able to afford to have the much needed sabbatical to grow and to heal and to hear from God as to what was in the next season ahead of serving. Reudi and Sandi's hospitality and compassion for pastors and lay ministers and their sweet spirits and heart for God are truly a gift and I am so grateful that they have chosen to share that gift with others.
These are some of the nicest people we have ever met! They were so kind to us and considerate.
Their place is absolutely gorgeous!
Highly recommend this ministry.

We stayed in the Selah cabin for a week in September 2015. It was absolutely delightful, restful and restored our souls as the beginning of a 4-month sabbatical.
Mid September 2015, my wife and I spent a week at the Selah Cabin. It was wonderful!!! The beauty of the surrounding woods, the quiet, the very comfortable cabin, the rocking chairs on the deck - need I say more? We left feeling rested and rejuvenated. We highly recommend Shepherd's Refuge and particularly the Selah Cabin as a place to enjoy nature, reflect, pray, write and commune with each other and with God. We'll be back!
The time we spent at Shepherds Refuge was so relaxing and also refueled us forward. The surroundings and accomodations immediatley put our minds and bodies into a state of calm and relaxation. Time to savor the beautiful surroundings, time to reflect, time to rest. What a gift this place is!
Beautiful setting....peaceful and relaxing place for our time away. We enjoyed meeting new friends from around the world as well. We were blessed to enjoy time at Shepherd's Refuge.
Shepherd's refuge truly is a refuge for those in ministry. Spend hours of quiet time with the Lord in the beautiful blue ridge mountains.
My wife and I are both Clergy and pastor 3 churches. Our week escape to Shepherds Refuge is a blessing. We turn off all access to the outside world and enter into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the most beautiful setting to be revived and refreshed.
It is a difficult job to be a pastor these days. So I am very grateful that there is a place like "Shepherds refuge" where my soul (and my physical strength) can be refreshed again.
My wife and I have been to Shepherds Refuge twice through the years, the stays separated by ten years. The first stay came at a time of discernment for what's next in ministry for us. Through our warm hosts and home we did hear from the Lord, a still small assurance. The second came as part of a long needed sabbatical. My wife and spent unhurried time, healing, reading to each other, walking, exploring, praying and just being together. Both experiences affirmed the work of God within and refreshed our souls for the next leg of the journey. And thanks for the exceptional hospitality and kind hearts and souls of our hosts.
One week at this wonderful refuge helped me to recharge and release a year's worth of stress as a bi-vocational Pastor. Ruedi and Sandy are warm and attentive hosts... dialed in to all their visitors' needs. Heartily recommended!
My husband and I are workers in Southeast Asia. We stayed in the small cabin in 2019 for 4 nights before heading overseas. It was so peaceful and we were able to hear from the Lord in a special way. We still talk about our time at Shepherds Refuge!
I have been amazed by the quality of hospitality that we have experienced each time visiting Shepherds Refuge-Selah Ministries !
Reudi and Sandy are not just great hosts they have become real friends that have been a real source of joy and encouragement over the years!
We are so grateful for having found Shepherds Refuge!
Jeff and Vêronique
Shepherd's Refuge has been an incredible gift to our family. The time to be able to get away and stay somewhere for free to rest and replenish our souls is invaluable. Taking the time to plan a trip there each year is a MUST for us.
Shepherds Refuge truly provides a place for us to be refreshed and creates a “refuge” to be rejuvenated. Set in the mountains we were surrounded by God’s beauty and could rest. The host are Very helpful and will provide privacy or are open for fellowship depending on your needs. Highly recommend!
I have never considered taking a sabbatical or even knew I needed one. My wife found SHEPERD'S REFUGE on line and checked into it and we decided to go. It almost sounded too good to be true. Ruedi and Sandy were the perfect hosts. I found a book written by one of their friends that I could not put down. We stayed in "the upper room". It was most comfortable and private. Absolutely 1 of the greatest things I have ever done for my wife and me. I HIGHLY recommend this place.
We first visited Shepherd's Refuge several years ago. We were the first from our ministry (Operation Mobilization) to have the opportunity of a brief respites from our labors. Ruedi and Sandy were wonderful hosts for our three night of resting and refreshing. We came back a few years later as the first guest to stay at the Selah Cabin, a facility that we supported with financial gifts. We were glad that we could be both "clients served" and "donors" for this ministry. We knew what a blessing it would be of more persons could get away to Shepherds Refuge to get recharged for ministry. We totally enjoyed our time at Shepherds Refuge and I was even more relaxed than the attached picture shows! We will continue to support this ministry.
Shepherd's Refuge is amazing. I came very heavy and weighted down, but left refreshed and restored. The accommodations were very comfortable and relaxing. I wasn't sure how I would handle the isolation of the location, but it definitely was exactly what I needed. Ruedi and Sandi are amazing hosts and my life was impacted forever by the experience.
Ruedi and Sandy did a wonderful job of making us feel so welcomed and relaxed at Shepherds Refuge, and we loved the opportunity to interact with them and share our stories. As overseas missionaries, having a quiet place to retreat to for a week, that is affordable, is a priceless blessing. It enabled us to recharge our spiritual as well as physical batteries, and the setting, in a lovely log cabin nestled in the woods of the beautiful Georgia mountains, was contemplative and restorative. The proximity to wonderful hikes, like Amicalola Falls, was just another perk!
My husband and I have personally benefitted from our annual prayer retreat at Shephard’s Refuge. We have left the retreat feeling refreshed and ready to serve our congregation faithfully.
The purpose and plan for this outreach is carried out perfectly. We have stayed in two different cabins, as well as the loft in the main home at Shepherd’s Refuge. We have had quiet rest, with available conversational counseling time, if desired. The cabins have lovely simple design with anything a couple or individual might need. The on-site directors are helpful and respond quickly to any request.
It was a wonderful weekend of rest and relaxation in this beautiful home and setting. The hosts were wonderful and welcoming. The meals were amazing! Sweet, loving couple. I would love to come again.

My husband who is a pastor of care and counseling and myself stayed with Shepherds Refuge for a week to "get away" and truly felt refreshed after times of solitude, hiking nearby forests, whitewater rafting and most of all the kind hospitality of our hosts. They "went the extra mile" to let us do laundry, share an occasional meal, use all their facilities, pet their dog - it felt like home! They were willing to listen without being intrusive and shared of their own lives in such a way that we felt an instant kinship with them. To all who help provide this special place, THANK YOU!!!
There was nothing to do but we with the Lord and rest! In my three days there I put together a puzzle, read, slept, danced in worship, cooked and spent time with Jesus. An ideal time of retreat! Ruedi and Sandy we’re very welcoming and easy to communicate with.
I sought their ministry before needing to make an important life decision. The space and prayers they gave supported all my needs wonderfully. Now, a year after that decision, I have confidence in the path I’m on! Thank you both greatly!
My wife and I were so very blessed for a second time to enjoy a time of retreat at Shepherd's Refuge. Ruedi and Sandy are so very gracious and hospitable. Visiting with them is an enriching experience. We also enjoyed meeting two of their board members. The facilities are very nice. The atmosphere is restorative. We highly recommend!
I had the blessing of staying at Shepherd's Refuge in April of 2015. I was at a time in my life when I was mourning the loss of my younger brother and was feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of ministry. I have no doubt it was the LORD who led me to this blessed place; as nine days after my return home I lost my mother. While nothing can prepare one for such a devastating loss, I believe God allowed me this time of rest and restoration to strengthen me for what was to come.
Pastors Ruedi and Sandy received me with such love that I immediately felt at home. During my stay, I was honored to sit at their table for various meals. More than the delicious food, however, the greater blessing was the opportunity to listen to them relay stories from the many years of ministry experience that God has afforded them. Shepherds Refuge sits in an idyllic location, tucked away, in a world all its own. I had times of refreshing as I walked the grounds, as I spent time alone in my quarters - aptly named "The Upper Room", driving through the quaint nearby towns, sitting on the wraparound porch enjoying the majestic views, or just spending time in their beautiful den with their gorgeous dog.
Shepherd's Refuge is a place like no other and I am eternally grateful for it and the ministry of Pastors Ruedi and Sandy.
Great place for R & R.
Leave your troubles in the valley and come away for rest & renewal in the beautiful N. GA mountains.
Debbie and I are overdue for a return trip. Highly recommend this retreat to every minister and spouse.

During the past 10 years my wife and I have been able to visit Shepherd's Refuge twice .... and, each visit has been a great get-a-way for Rest & Relaxation. Their refuge is in the peaceful N. GA mountains, far, far away from the noise and distractions of modern cities. Yet, it is not too far from the beautiful little village of Dahlonegha, GA. Beautiful walking paths, lovely mountains, quiet, peaceful place to chill out. Hope any one in ministry will book a visit for some soul-rest / R & R.
If you are looking for the perfect getaway from all the hustle and bustle of the world, then this is the place for you. My wife and I have been here three times in the past five years and we always leave refreshed and energized. A wonderful place to unplug and listen to God speak. The hosts are wonderful and there is no "hidden agenda" while you are staying there. It is your time to do as you please. I love that there is no TV or internet connections in the cabins. Just peace and quiet. Fair warning, once you stay here, you will come back!
My wife and I absolutely fell in love with this place. To be able to go to a place and have peace and quite from the everyday hustle and bustle of a pastor's life is beyond words. If you are a pastor, you MUST go here. Everyday I would walk the trails and sit on a prayer bench and do nothing but listen to the leaves fall (and yes you can hear them falling), the birds singing and the squirrels playing. It was so refreshing. We have already made our reservations for 2015 and 2016. It will be our annual retreat as long as the good Lord allows us to go. You cannot go wrong in coming here if you need refreshed.
Had a great experience with Shepherd's Refuge! I found them very easy to work with and a clear heart to serve others through their ministry! It's a beautiful setting and very reasonable cost. Would highly recommend!
I found shepherd's refuge in a particular point of need. Not only were they available but their particular ministry enabled me to meet specific personal and ministry goals during my time with them. The Lord used that time in special ways! Ruedi and Sandy Mettler are amazing servants and now dear fellow-believers that I would consider long-term friends. The setting and facilities of Shepherd's Refuge are well suited to their goals of providing a quiet, beautiful, close to nature opportunity to recover, recharge, and recalibrate in the Lord and in His Word. I thank the Lord for Shepherd's Refuge.
Wow. What an incredible blessing Shepherd's Refuge is to pastors.
Balancing marriage, family & ministry all on a shoe-string budget is difficult. Wouldn't trade it for anything, but it is tough. Providing a place for my wife and I to slow down and be together with each other and the Lord is such a blessing.
I believe investing in Shepherd's Refuge not only blesses pastors, marriages, but also the congregations they serve. Thank you for blessing our family and our people.
I spent 5 days in 2017 at Shepherds Refuge in need of rest. After years of ministry, I was in a period of transition and wanted to take some time away to reset. I found my time there to be some of the best days spent recharging and frequently speak of my time to those in need of time way. I hope to take some more time away there soon. I'm grateful for this nonprofit.
Shepherds Refuge is an amazing ministry to care for weary pastors and ministry leaders. The grounds and facilities are immaculate. Sandy and Ruedi take wonderful care of their guests. They look at taking care of pastors and ministry leaders as their personal ministry assignment, and from what we experienced, they take their ministry assignment seriously! It has been about three years since our visit, and my husband and I still fondly talk about the experience! It was truly a time of recharging, refocusing and refreshing. We highly recommend Shepherds Refuge for pastors who need a time of refreshing. We also highly recommend Shepherds Refuge to receive any sponsorships and donations!
I spent a week in the Shiloh cabin. I felt tangible rest the minute I walked in the door. I encountered the Lord’s presence in the still and quiet, and in the surrounding nature. There’s a time for vacation and there’s a time for retreat. These hosts have built a refuge for ministers that gives us the perfect place to renew strength.
This wonderful ministry provided a place for me to get away from the noise of life and pressures of ministry to hear my Father in Heaven's voice. This ministry is truly Heaven sent.
The leaders were kind and helpful. I was blessed in every way! I would highly recommend!
This is an incredible ministry of hospitality. A wonderful retreat setting with gorgeous natural beauty, comfortable rooms, and a very lovely couple. I highly recommend spending time at this retreat center as I have. You will be blessed. Also, consider contributing to this ministry to extend its future.
Ruedi and Sandi are amazing hosts with a genuine heart for those who give their lives serving others. The facilities and location in the North Georgia mountains are breathtaking. Our time their was refreshing and revitalizing. It is an absolute honor for us to recommend this amazing pastors retreat to others just needing to get away. You will be blessed in multiple ways during your time at Shepherds Refuge.
My husband, Andrew and I have been with a mission agency for 40 years. Part of his ministry involves being out of the country three or four times/year on lengthy trips. We both have very full schedules. This past January, we both badly needed some quiet, restful time away before his first trip for the year began. Shepherd's Refuge was the perfect place for us to go. The location is beautiful, private and peaceful and the cabin far exceeded our expectations. We did lots of hiking to beautiful waterfalls, as well as just sitting on the porch and reading and reflecting, enjoying the peace. Ruedi and Sandi were wonderful hosts. We enjoyed the opportunity to visit with them and get to know them and their heart for ministry. At the same time, they made it known that if what we wanted was just solitude, that that was fine, too. We enjoyed both and the freedom to do that. It was just what we needed to feel renewed, restored and ready to go again. We're grateful for the opportunity and look forward to returning there.
I'm a missionary preparing for my first term of service overseas, and the last year and a half has been a whirlwind of applications, partnership development, cross-cultural training, professional training, and packing. About a month ago, I started to realize that the wear and tear of going, going, going without taking a break or taking time to be quiet with the Lord was overwhelming me. I needed a place to go away and be quiet for a little while, and Shepherd's Refuge was the perfect place to do that. The location was beautiful, the hosts are wonderful, and the ministry is such a blessing. I would recommend it to anyone in ministry who needs a chance to spend some time with the Lord and to be at rest.
What an incredible gift it was, for my wife and I in full time pastoral ministry, to be so warmly welcomed and given time and space for rest and reflection in such a beautiful setting. We are very grateful for Reudi and Sandy and the ministry of Shepherd's Refuge!

My wife and I spent a much-needed week of rest, refreshment and renewal in July 2015 at Shepherds Refuge. I have participated in other Pastor renewal programs, and this by far is our favorite. We stayed in the Selah cabin and absolutely loved it. It was quiet, secluded, and technology-free . . . which was what we needed. We spent a lot of time sitting on the front porch rockers just talking and enjoying the beauty of God's creation and the soul-refreshing quiet. The cabin is absolutely beautiful and has everything we needed for a week of solitude (as a couple) and renewal. We cannot wait for the chance to return if that opportunity affords itself.

My wife and I were in Chattanooga for a conference, and before flying back to the busyness of family life and church ministry in Southern California, we were blessed with a couple days at Shepherd's Refuge. It was a perfect place to unwind and process all that we had taken in at the conference--Reudi and Sandy were available to cook meals or chat, but at the same time gave us plenty of space to be alone with God and one another. We stayed in the Upper Room of the main lodge, which was spacious and comfortable and quiet...so refreshing!
My wife and I discovered Shepherd's Refuge through a search on the internet. After checking it out, we inquired about a week's stay. We were accepted and we spent some much-needed time away there last summer. It was a great haven of rest for the two of us. It is close to many things to see and do, yet it is a wonderful place to get away from it all. It is a wonderful place where you can slow down the pace, and allow the Lord to renew your soul.
Our thanks to Ruedi and Sandy, who were very gracious hosts, for following the Lord's lead and creating this special refuge for those in the ministry. Our thanks to the board of directors who oversee the ministry, to all of the volunteers who helped to build the beautiful cabins, and to all who support the ministry with their prayers and financial support. Shepherd's Refuge has been a great blessing to us!
I am a pastor and my wife is a principal. Neither of us take much time off. The 5 days we spent at Shepherd's Refuge was a much needed rest. The cabin facilities were first rate and much better than we expected. Ruedi and Sandy were wonderful hosts. We can't wait to go back for another great experience.
My wife and I so needed a break from just the everyday struggles of ministry. We found out about shepherds refuge on the Internet. We win not really knowing what to expect. But as we arrive and met Sandy and Rudy a really big began to see how God was working this much needed break out. Immediately as you arrive you sense the presence of God. There is no pressure it is your vacation it is your trip and is it is your chance to get away and be still and reconnect with God. You can do as much or as little as you want to do again this is your refuge and I admire Sandy and Rudy for their dedication to taking care of God's chosen pastors and missionaries. We will go back and I recommend it to any hay need time away.
Ruedi and Sandy have been very instrumental in the growth and development of our ministry. Our time with them (twice) proved to be exactly what we needed to propel our vision for member care ministry. They are incredibly gifted with hearts of gold!
After many stressful months struggling in a wilderness within my ministry at my church along with my wife, who was granted her first clergy appointment after many years of serving within a church as staff, our stress level had reached a maximum. This was our second retreat at Shepherds Refuge-Selah Ministries. The afternoon we arrived, we both felt the Holy Spirit lift our burdens from our shoulders. As we entered the cabin, we felt as if we were entering into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, just to find rest. And rest we did find. As we disconnected from the world by turning off our phones, accessing no internet, and placing our souls at the feet of Jesus in the beautiful mountain setting that is Shepherds Refuge. For the first three day, we mostly sleep, relaxed, and meditated upon God's Word. The for remaining four days we explored the mountains around us by taking a trip to Brasstown Bald Mountain, the highest mountain in Georgia, traveled to Blue Ridge, GA, and various lakes near by. When we departs, our souls and bodies had found the rest we need and the spirits felt one with God's Spirit. This is a special place, offered by special people, for those called by God to find rest and to be revived.
My wife and I are in ministry. We spent a few days at the Shepherd's Refuge with Rudi and Sandy. These people are committed to serving the Father in the manner that He has called them to serve . . . moreover, the manner in which they do it is unlike the simple provision of room and board. Both of them go all out to treat their guests like royalty, and the accommodations are both superb and picturesque. Any and all travelers who are fortunate enough to enjoy their hospitality and genuine warmth are indeed favored by and of the Father.

I spent 5 days here while on sabbatical and it was the perfect "rest". It was also great to explore the area-I loved the parks and the waterfalls. The hosts were wonderful as well.
I work at a not-for-profit ministry in Ontario, Canada, and was starting to feel emotionally and spiritually depleted early this year. My wife and I were directed to Shepherd's Refuge by a colleague, and I am so grateful we were! What a blessing to have a quiet break away from the regular bustle of kids and ministry, spending precious time with my wife and exploring new areas of God's world! So wonderful to meet Reudi and Sandi as well! Great hosts!
