Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Shepherd Center is a private, not-for-profit catastrophic care hospital founded in 1975 in Atlanta, Ga., that specializes in medical treatment for people with TBI, spinal cord injury, chronic pain and other neuromuscular injuries or illnesses.  SHARE Initiative, a specialized program within Shepherd Center, is a collaborative effort between Mr. Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot, Humana Military Healthcare Services and Shepherd to provide a continuum of rehabilitation evaluation and treatment services for those servicemen and women who have sustained brain injury, spinal cord injury or blast injury, in conflict or stateside.  Our program provides care for active duty and those separated from service who have served, or are serving in OEF/OIF.  The grant allows provision for medical rehabilitation and necessary services not covered by insurance, in order to promote a successful return to military or civilian life.
