Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Lost and abandoned animals in this rural area remain so - the nearest shelters are more than 50 miles away and there are no regular animal care or control services such as are available in more urban areas. Securing the safety of a found animal requires a minimum of a three hour trip. SOTH's Animal Care Center RESCUES companion animals from the dangers of the street, REUNITES lost pets with their loved ones, and REHOMES adoptable animals to a new and loving family.

I started volunteering at Soth in 2016 when I retired and move back to our lovely mountain community.
First stepped in the doors and noticed how wonderful and clean it smelled I had never been in a shelter that was taken care of so well. Started volunteering with the kitty cats and before long when the babies came in I was helping in bottle feeding them. The volunteers that I have worked with are the most loving caring hard-working people I have ever met I am proud to say that I am part of Soth.

I have been a volunteer at SOTH since 2018. The animals that come to our shelter are truly loved and cared for. They become members of our SOTH family.
It’s such a pleasure to see a frighten cat or dog become calm and relaxed. The cats are cared for in the Cattery. A dedicated area just for them. The dogs are taught basic skills and introduced to play groups to help them become even more adoptable.
I have adopted two of the dogs that were brought to the shelter. They were added to my other rescues.
The question really is “Who recused who!” as shelter dogs and cats make awesome forever pets ❤️

In the 10 years that SOTH has been open in this tiny mountain community of approximately 3,000 people, the volunteers at Shelter on the Hill have fed, loved and cared for almost 2,000 animals. A really incredible accomplishment!

Shelter on the Hill incorporated in Y2K with the goal of opening a local shelter for lost and abandoned animals (the nearest is 50 miles way). SOTH has enjoyed the whole-hearted support of a rural area of less than 10,000 people and will open a state-of-the-art haven for dogs and cats in the near future. Wow!

Shelter on the Hill, a Humane Society does a fantastic job of sheltering, rehoming and returning lost and surrendered pets. Their volunteer staff is well trained and willing to help. It's a great place to find your next best friend. www.shelteronthehill.org

An up and coming GREAT organization that has shown to be dedicated to the care of the lost. No where within the area is there a place of this quality, run by people that are so dedicated. From the fundraising thrift store volunteers, the staff at the well designed shelter, the head of the operation, and to the many within the community that have support the need for this organization to be established.
