I've been with SFTS since 2016! It's a great place because they have several fun events throughout the year and I've made many friends through their organization. It's an awesome place to gain knowledge of animal care, nutrition, and behavior because they have all sorts of volunteer opportunities including walking dogs, fostering, socializing with animals, assisting with fundraisers and events, and even working at their veterinary clinic. The staff members are more than happy to provide others with information about training and handling which can be helpful for those who are new to the animal welfare industry or may not know much about working with dogs who were rescued from puppy mills. As with all shelters, there can sometimes be stress due to times when they're overcrowded or understaffed but I feel like the employees do their best to be friendly and accommodating despite whatever they may be going through at the time.

I have been a volunteer with SFTS for almost two years. Volunteering comes with many challenges, but I am thrilled to say that I have been impressed and humbled by the dedication, compassion, and hard work from many of the staff and other volunteers. Volunteers do their very best to get to know and understand the needs of all animals, and committed Fosters give their time, their patience, and sometimes tears of happiness in finding these animals their permanent homes. No organization is perfect, but I appreciate the mission of finding each animal the RIGHT home, and educating the public on vet care and training

At first it was difficult to get someone to call back, but I was persistent because there was a particular dog I was hoping to see. She was in quarantine with kennel caugh. I am so happy I waited as my little girl is the sweetest dog I have ever met. I know smaller shelters must be understaffed and under considerable stress to keep all animals fed and cared for. I support and applaud their efforts to provide unwanted pets a forever home.
