I've been involved with the Shawnee RC&D Area in some capacity since 1987. They have consistently served as an incubator and positive example of innovative conservation initiatives in the biologically diverse 16 southernmost counties of Illinois. Thousands of acres of land restoration - wetlands, forests, agricultural fields - all better off due to the efforts of this not-for-profit organization. Their biggest concern is cash flow, as so many grants are now provided on a reimbursement basis. They need the cash outlay, in order to sponsor more projects simultaneously in the region. The needs are many, and this organization occupies a special niche in conservation. Definitely a cause worth supporting. www.shawneercd.org.
