After purchasing property in Sharpsburg in 2006, we immediately joined the historical society. I became a board member and am now the president of the organization . We offer research help to those looking for information about their families and the town. Our headquarters are in the backroom of the Town Hall, and we are happy to arrange times to visit. We offer free public meetings and programs about the people, the area, and the town that was founded in 1863. During the recognition of the town's founding this July (2018) we will be welcoming visitors to come to the Methodist Cemetery to learn about its history and to see the work that needs to be done so that the remaining tombstones will remain a resource for historical research and an important part of the town's fabric. We are currently looking for funding to stabilize that cemetery, founded in 1828 and neglected since 1938. Learn more about the historical society at its website sharpsburghistoricalsociety.org Any interest and, of course, donations will be happily appreciated.
