Have been with Sharing Connections for many years....3,500+ hours....all the assist and help we give our clients has rewards for me too. Making people lives better, hands on, gives me purpose with my life and a feeling inside that cannot be described. Pure pleasure might be a good way, helping families, veterans especially for me, my Dad would be proud of all we do, as he was in WW11, decorated veteran, Thanks for letting me help.
I have been volunteering with Sharing Connections since 2009. They are an amazing organization that helps families, veterans, domestic violence victims & individuals make a house a home. They provide, beds, cribs, sofas, kitchen tables and many other household items to our neighbors in need.

I've been involved with Sharing Connections since I left my full-time career in 2005 and cannot imagine an organization with more passion for its mission and compassion for its clients and their families.
I heard about Sharing Connections from our church. When I changed careers in 2005 I started volunteering with them because I enjoy helping people and I care about the environment. What a great mission they have to distribute still-good, useable, NICE furniture and home furnishings to our neighbors in need! Why pitch a perfectly-good sofa into the garbage/landfill when another family, who cannot otherwise afford it, can use it? I remembered my own financial burden of having to purchase a bed for myself when I got my first job and moved away--its purchase price equivalent to my rent payment at the time. In my 11 years as a volunteer, donor, and employee I've seen many tears of joy that I carry with me in my heart wherever I go. The memory of a woman donating a crib sticks with me in particular. She pulled up to the drop-off door and pulled the crib out of her car right into the hands of a new mom. It was a wonderful connection that will stick with me forever.
For the past 16 years I have been a volunteer at Sharing Connections.
The thing I enjoy the most is helping our guests select the items they desire to make their place a home. It is so rewarding to me, when they leave our warehouse with furniture and household items for a fresh start in their life.
I have been a Sharing Connections volunteer for 15 years working in various capacities. It is so uplifting to me, to reach out a hand to help someone else get back on their feet. I am constantly amazed by the donations that we receive. The donations that touch me the most are the ones from young children. There are many kids that have requested items we need, for their birthday presents. Then they bring the items to us to give to people we serve. Wow!
I have been volunteering here for 4 years and have had the most incredible experience. Everyone is delightful and makes volunteering here fun. The volunteers and staff here serve the clients with respect and work very hard to make sure the client is served to the best of their abilities.
Although I may have only just started volunteering my time at Sharing Connections, the amazing people and the amazing work that they do there creates such a wonderful mindset that I carry with me. As a volunteer you can see your hard work pay off in the smiles of the clients and the hopefully shrinking inventory. Many a family has come into their establishment and allowed their lives to be changed forever. I know Sharing Connections has changed many lives before mine and I hope they continue to thrive in their work and impact many more lives after me.
Each and every day, Sharing Connections lives up to it's motto of furnishing hope. Whether it is a veteran transitioning out of homelessness or a family displaced from a fire, the staff and volunteers at Sharing Connections do their very best to furnish hope to struggling individuals and families. For the families that visit Sharing Connections, no matter where they are on their journey through life, they always leave happier and less stressed than they were when they first arrived.
I’ve donated items to them and been to their warehouse and see the people they help. Great organization
Sharing Connections is an awesome organization. They help those in need with a "hand up" to enable them to not only help then get by but to feel better about themselves. Their great work of helping those in need in the Chicagoland area is second to none. Kudos to the other great volunteers their as well as the staff at SC as all are engaged to make this world a better place. It is a fun place to volunteer knowing your work and time is well spent!!
I have become a recent volunteer for this wonderful organization that "Furnishes Hope" for individuals and families in need. I'm impressed by the dedication and passion of the volunteers and by their hard work and organizational skills. This allows for this nonprofit to keep costs down by employing a lean staff. It's an honor to be affiliated with this organization.
I have been involved with Sharing Connections since 1991. Brought baby items to Leeanne's garage for redistributing to another family in need. She has done amazing work! Her vision to take this small initiative and grow it into a fully-functioning non-profit agency serving the Chicagoland area is nothing short of amazing! This agency helps so many individuals with small requests like clothing and personal care items, to whole home full of beds, dressers, kitchen table/chairs and cooking utensils. It's wonderful to experience a 'Sharing Connection moment' by participating in such a wonderful cause and agency! 4/19/2018 update - they are having a Mom's donation drive. Give $100 and a crib/bed will be bought so all children sleep safely. As a Mom, I want all kids safe and in a crib/bed and tucked in nightly!

Extremely motivated group with goals and visions to to help as many people as they can to help transition into their own home. Truly amazing work done
Best company I have ever volunteered for! Nice people and very deserving clients.
It is amazing to watch the volunteers and team at Sharing Connections make such a difference in the community. Each person that comes in for help is treated with total respect and dignity and walks out with the hope for a better future. They continue to strive to do the very best that they can and it shows.
I am so excited to be a part of the great work this group is doing. "Tonight everyone eats at a table and sleeps in a bed" is their vision and they make it easy to be a part of fulfilling that vision.
Great organization with a large volunteer base committed to the cause of "Furnishing Hope". Because of the size of the volunteer base and the lean paid staff ratio, the funding provided by people, churches, companies, foundations, etc is being used in an efficient and caring way making sure overhead doesn't diminish the benefits directed to our client community. Truly an impressive organization on so many levels.
As a volunteer for over 10 years at Sharing Connections, I have helped to serve many many of our very deserving guests. I have been heartened by the increasing number of veterans that have been referred to us. It is so rewarding to be able to offer not only furniture for their new home, but also many varied household items for their kitchen, bathroom and bedroom along with clothing. Our guests seem a bit apprehensive upon arriving at SC and it is our job to help them feel comfortable, cared for and ready to go back making a new home and new life for themselves and their families. One of my most satisfying moments a few months ago was when one of the movers from a moving company, that was assisting our guest came up to me and told me two years ago he was one of our guests. With a huge smile on his face, he told me because of us he has a comfortable home, a new job and a very promising future ahead of him. It's doesn't get any better than that.
Having worked at Sharing Connections for over 10 years and having been able to help hundreds of families start over to begin a new chapter in their lives has been a blessing to me as well as them. It's wonderful to offer the families donations of all kinds of furniture and household goods to make their new place a home and somewhere they want to be and also to be proud of. Sometimes they can come in a bit dejected and feeling defeated, but by the time they leave with all of their new items, they have tears of joy and get a great big hug to begin again and face the world with hope. There is nothing more rewarding for a volunteer and I am proud to be a part of this wonderful organization.
I have volunteered with Sharing Connections for almost 14 years. My roles have included Client Care, Sorting, Christmas Program, Adult Christmas Baskets, and various others. One does not continue to return weekly if they are not happy to be volunteering at a specific place. Working with our guests is so rewarding - for them and for me. When a guest is starting a new home and turns to Sharing Connections for assistance - they come in with some reluctance, not knowing what to expect. Leaving with furniture, dishes, clothing, bedding, home accessories, clothing, appliances, rugs, towels, personal care and cleaning supplies - and many other items that have been donated - well, they now have items to make that empty space a home. Giving a hug to a guest as they leave gives them and us good feelings. Sharing stories and tears, listening with caring and understanding - these are the exceptional personal touches that Sharing Connections can offer.
As a Board Member, I see Sharing Connections from the inside-out. Its leadership, staff and volunteers are aligned in servicing those in need with dignity and respect, while ever mindful of deploying donor resources prudently and in the way that honors the mission. Instances of former clients coming back years later to Sharing Connections as volunteers speaks volumes for what the organization represents to the people it serves. I encourage others to make a positive difference by supporting Sharing Connections!
I have donated to Sharing Connections for a few years but as a newly retired gal, I needed to find my passion here in Downers Grove. I volunteer now 2 mornings per week. I witness the generous donations from stores and companies who understand the struggles of our veterans and domestic abuse victims.
I witness the dedication of the hard working staff!
I especially witness the efforts of the volunteers who have been here for years and call this their calling!
What a terrific place Leanne has built! Let's keep this passion going for the needy!
