I worked as a Floater for Shady Lane school. I originally wanted to be a Lead Educater. I was told I wasnt ready yet. so too bad your loss. Maybe next time, guys. Peace out.
I absolutely love Shady Lane! Both as an educational choice for my child as well as a professional choice for myself. My husband and I have seen such a growth and spark in our son since he's been attending Shady Lane. We are so grateful to be a part of the SLS family and its program!
Shady Lane changed my world as a parent. I relocated from far away and it was an instant community. The teachers helped transition my child from toddler stages to pre-kindergarten, helping me with all the issues and changes as he grew. Not only has my child met some of his best friends at the school, but I met several parents who became central parts of my life as a Pittsburgher. Shady Lane is much more than just a school!
Our family recently relocated from out of state to Pittsburgh, and selecting a good preschool for our daughter was a top priority. When we asked a new colleague, he had only one recommendation: ‘you must look at Shady Lane!’ From our very first visit we knew that this was a special school. The morning classes reflect an innovative pedagogy that is interactive, exploratory, and quite frankly, fun. We love seeing our daughter coming home and discussing all the new things she is learning. Just as importantly, she is excited to go to school every morning and thoroughly enjoys the full experience, including the strong curriculum in the visual and performing arts. The teachers and staff go out of their way to make students and parents feel welcome and address concerns. As working parents, we particularly love receiving a daily email filled with pictures and updates on class activities and lessons. I cannot imagine a better environment to prepare a young child for grade school. We are thrilled with Shady Lane and would highly recommend it to other parents.
My daughter is so happy to go to this school! She's been helped in her transition to a completely new life since we've moved to Pittsburgh from Italy, thanks to this school
Shady Lane is a unique learning environment that provides excellent educational opportunities, both formal and informal, for its pre-school community. The children welcome the various activities and learning experiences and at the end of the day, appear happy! I love seeing the social interactions with each other and how they learn to creatively and effectively problem solve at their own level. I'm encouraged by this because we sure can use more of these skills in adult communities!
My son spent two years in Shady Lane and now going to KG. We have always impressed with the teacher's dedication. He had two different teachers and numerous teacher aids, all are well equipped. The structured program and curriculum is unique. The focus on art and nature is what a pre-school kid needs. We are really happy what he got from Shady Lane. I am sure Shady Lane will have important and positive impact on his future.
This has been a great preschool for our daughter. The teachers she has had and the resources available are outstanding. We like that there is an outdoor play space as well as activities such as field trips and visitors from the library and other Pittsburgh institutions. We came from a smaller daycare environment so it was an adjustment to a place that feels more like a school with the individual classrooms but otherwise we have been very happy here. She is more than ready for kindergarten!
My two sons have had such an amazing experience at Shady Lane. One has since graduated to a private school for kindergarten, where he has made an easy transition both in learning style and environment. The other is in his second year. He has a physical disability, which affects his ability to participate in some fine motor skills. The Shady Lane environment has been empowering for him, creatively engaging him in all activities. I feel as though our family has joined not just a school, but a community.
Shady Lane is an incredible community and I'm so happy that my family is a part of it. My oldest daughter has been a student here for 2 years and my younger daughter will be happily starting next month. The culture is one of diversity and inclusion, focusing on development of the whole child. I especially enjoy the emphasis on the arts, play-based learning and time outdoors.
I've been impressed with and very appreciative of Shady Lane's accommodations for the additional needs of my daughter. They have worked with me to make sure she has everything she needs to successfully transition to Kindergarten next year. It's been a pleasure to tell prospective Kindergartens that she is currently at Shady Lane. Their reaction is always one of excitement and approval knowing that she'll be prepared and equipped for this next step in her academic life.
Shady Lane was absolutely integral to the development of my two sons. My older son is now in the second grade. His time at Shady Lane made him into the curious, engaged student he is today. My younger son is a current student. His days are filled with wonder, creativity and fun. The staff there cares about each child like they were their own. I will always hold our time at Shady Lane dear.
I am the mother of two Shady Lane 'graduates' and one current student. This wonderful education community has been a second home for our family and a place where our children have grown and flourished. The school's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the arts was a strong draw for me and my husband when we first began looking at preschools.
Shady Lane educators foster each child's interests and strengths and help families to work on areas where a child may need more encouragement. For example, my oldest daughter was particularly shy and introverted when she started preschool at age three. Her teachers worked with her to foster new friendships with her peers and develop problem solving skills that made her more socially independent and assertive.
When our two oldest children entered primary school, their Kindergarten teacher remarked how well prepared they were socially, emotionally, and academically for the next stage of their education. We attribute much of this to the excellent team they had in their Pre-K year at Shady Lane, led by veteran educator Susan Cooper.
Shady Lane is a wonderful institution and a great nonprofit!
I am a parent of 2 Shady Lane Children (one already graduated). I love the school and it's impact on my oldest who had mild special needs. I even joined it's board of directors. The teachers know each child in the classroom so well, and respond with individualized strategies to leverage the children's strengths and shore up areas of development. I also appreciate the school's commitment to diversity and the Arts. One notable highlight visits from the Pittsburgh Opera, Mattress Factory, and Pittsburgh Symphony, PLUS field trips to concerts and plays. It's unlike any pre-school that we visited.
Shady Lane has been a wonderful school for my 2 kids. Over the 5 years we have been there, the school has become like an extension of our family.
When my older child started kindergarden, he was very well-prepared socially, developmentally, and educationally. A lot of that had to do with the 3 years he spent at Shady Lane.
The teachers are caring and creative, and the school has a fun, warm atmosphere.
My daughter had a great experience at Shady Lane. She attended from 2 years old until 5 years of age when she moved to kindergarten. The teachers at Shady Lane were very attentive to her individual needs and made sure that she was ready for kindergarten. Seemingly, while playing and learning, she was able to master all the skills necessary to move to a traditional classroom. We have developed life-long friendships with the teachers and administrative staff who bring excellence to Shady Lane.
Shady Lane School is an outstanding educational institution. It provides a wide range of opportunities for children to grow in many ways.
Shady Lane School is almost 50 years old and has achieved NAEYC accreditation as well as a Keystone STARS 4A rating. Children learn through play and the arts in developmentally appropriate classrooms arranged according to age. The school is diverse and inclusive and children succeed academically because of caring, dedicated and well-educated teachers.
