Shadow's Fund has been a great blessing in my life. Along with the countless lives of dogs and other animals Shadow's Fund has saved, Shadow's Fund has helped me with almost every dog i have helped to get out of the shelters. In particular they have opened their hearts to help save two dogs from the shelter that are close to my heart who would not have had a good fate had Shadow's Fund not stepped in. For other dogs I've been involved with, they have created or supported programs to get animals who have been in the shelters for a long time out of the shelter, i.e., From Kennels to Couches. The energy of Shadow's Fund is Heart, From the Heart, and From their Heart to each and every Dog's Heart every step of the way. They provide the most amazing care, Love, dedication, and rehabilitation for these dogs who have not done well in a shelter environment or who have had problems or issues. If a dog is found and ill, Shadow's Fund will dive with hugely open hearts into nursing the dog back to health, gathering a whole support team - an amazingly dedicated support team - to help. Every detail is important and addressed in their impeccable care. They have created a whole community of friends who are totally dedicated to and grateful for these amazing models of selflessness, Jill and Cody. To the community of friends, aside from helping with networking, Shadow's Fund provides information for people to help their pets, providing information they have discovered through their good works about diet and communication, and so many other things to help people's pets. The political energies seen at shelters when we try to save dogs is not present here. No politics. Shadow's Fund always finds a way to help. Always. Every being is unique there and is treated like Royalty. Seriously. Shadow's Funds saves animals through their immense heart energy, passion for, and dedication to helping animals. They Live with the consciousness that we are all connected and deserve a good life. That is it. Shadow's Fund depends totally on donations, grants, and I cannot imagine a more worthy organization for any animal lover than this organization built upon the bricks and mortar of Love. Cody and Jill always rise above any situation and with Loving hearts create Good for the animals from it. Every animal there feels Loved and cared about which is obvious in the meticulous way they are Conscious and attentive to the needs and unique interests and desires of each dog and see this is implemented every day 7 days a week. As I mentioned, they have saved two dogs that i have personally be involved in helping, i.e., one in which Jill took the dog and me on a 54 hour rescue mission to secure the right home for the dog, and a second in which Jill and Cody created a home Full of Love there specially designed for an amazingly sweet and joyful dog who Loves people but does not get along with other dogs. They saved this dog who otherwise would not have had a good fate. They have created a very happy home for her with friends and neighbors, and movie night partners.Jill and Cody have also helped me help another dog with separation anxiety to find an amazing home because they cared and offered guidance from their experience of how to make it work for the dog. With their guidance, the dog found a wonderful home. They are wise, intuitive, Loving, and sensitive to each animals needs and wants and they create that for the animals. As an animal Lover and shelter volunteer, my connection with Shadow's Fund has totally changed my life. This is a difficult business saving animals, but Jill and Cody have done so and i know will continue to do so with Grace, Compassion, and full dedication of mind, body, and spirit. Thank you for your continuous support for Shadow's Fund.

I became familiar with Shadows Fund while volunteering for another dog rescue in the Santa Barbara area. One day when I popped on to Facebook for a few minutes I saw a post from Shadow's Fund seeking a foster for a senior pitbull they had rescued from the Carson shelter in LA. His name was Debo. They had pulled this senior boy along with another senior who was believed to be either his mother or sister. Sadly, the night they pulled them and placed them in boarding for one night before making the trip to Lompoc, the female pittie Lil Mama passed away next to Debo after they were reunited and resting that evening. SF needed a hospice foster for Debo. At the time I really didn't know anything about him other than I wanted to help him. I have a soft spot in my heart for the seniors and for the hospice dogs. I have cared for many over the years.

Debo spent a little over a year living his best life with me and my other senior dogs before passing away of cancer. He was such a special soul and and touched my heart so deeply and enriched my life more than I could have ever imagined. I am so grateful for having the opportunity to be his foster mom.

I now volunteer at Shadows Fund where they care for not only dogs, but pigs, horses and a sheep. They have rescued many dogs over the last 10 years and given them a second chance that otherwise they would not have had. They also educate people to help them gain an understanding of dog behavior and how to overcome various challenges they may be having with their dogs.

Thank you Jill and Cody and to the volunteers who impact the lives of so many animals with love and compassion.

I can not begin to express how amazing Jill, Cody and the Shadow’s Fund team are. They devote their lives to the animals on the ranch and go to the greatest extent to ensure the animals have the best lives possible. Everything about the organization and the people who make it go round everyday are beyond admirable. We are lucky enough to have found 2 Shadows fund dogs in our lives and be their forever family and for that WE are eternally grateful. Thank you for all you do! ❤️

I volunteered at this nonprofit for a couple of years, and truly enjoyed and honored their dedication for the well being of all animals, especially the pit bull terriers. They give it all 24'7 to keep the rescues safe, exercised, feed, and socially active. I would still volunteer there if I had remained in the area.

We adopted Buddy in 2013, he had been at Shadow's Fund for a while before us and was a great help to many other pups there. Then he blessed our home by becoming an emotional support animal to myself and my autistic son. If it wasn't for Jill and Cody taking him from the shelter he was in before (he was put as unadoptable because of kennel cough) we would not have our little hero. Jill and Cody with the team at Shadow's Fund are an amazing group of people who give these pups a second chance at life. We are eternally grateful to them.

Having been adopted by Klifford as his forever home, Shadows Fund worked diligently to be sure we were the perfect match for him. Driving HOURS, to enable him to spend time with us and his new siblings. Not just once but 5 times!!
The thing that is most impressive is that they treat every single one of the dogs as individuals with an instinctual understanding of the dogs personal needs, be it physical, emotional or mental. They want only for the dogs to shine in love and become who they really were before this world left it’s sometimes ugly handprint on them.
Shadows Fund has set the standard for all rescues. We are honored to be a part of the Shadows Fund family.

I’ve been a follower and supporter of Shadow’s Fund since their inception many years ago.

I first got to know Jill while working as a volunteer under her guidance for another Rescue. Her staunch love of animals and passion for ethical rescue became obvious to my little groups of teen and young adult volunteers who so looked forward to their volunteer experience. When Jill and Cody began Sheltering Oaks Sanctuary/Shadow’s Fund Incorporated, I helped financially as much as I could, as it was obvious that this place was going to be very special indeed.

And so over the years it has proven to be. From the elderly abandoned to the abused, to those in abject misery at the end of their days, to pregnant Pitbulls whose puppies would never have even had a chance in the public shelter system, all who could be taken into the sheltering arms of Shadows Fund have been saved in every sense of the word. Even animals otherwise unadoptable because of behaviors borne of abuse find acceptance, understanding, love, and a HOME here. The volunteers go to incredible lengths to find amazing and well-matched homes for the dogs (and others) who have been saved; their creativity and outreach are boundless.

In later years, as a 501.c.3 Director/Rescue Coordinator (of a different organization) myself, I became further in awe of the efficiency, broad involvement of the community, numbers of animals helped, and even the advocacy within the criminal justice system on behalf of tortured animals displayed by the Founders and by their incredible cadre of dedicated volunteers. Shadow’s Fund, to me, exemplifies all that a Rescue Organization can and should be—but this is a level which is actualized by only a very, very few.

On a recent night, an appeal for near-immediate help in a dog crisis was published on Facebook. Literally within moments, folks from near and far were scrambling over themselves to help; “over-volunteering” if you will! Not many organizations have such a broad network of folks who love and are loved BY the rescue group to whom they choose to volunteer their invaluable time. Shadow’s Fund does, and this is why they are so special.

Please support the mission of Shadow’s Fund. All of us in the physical and Rescue communities NEED THEM to continue to do their great work, and also to inspire and teach other Rescue organizations, their volunteers and their staff to “reach further”. As I have. As others have, and will, with your help. Thank you so kindly.

My wife and I have two dogs from Shadow's Fund. Jill and Cody are amazing and go above and beyond to help dogs in need. We have volunteered with them, donated, and even gotten married on the property...we love this organization so much! They are a model for how other rescues can work. We continue to give when we can and remain loyal supporters even living out of state. They are truly an incredible place that has saved so many dogs lives...and humans lives in the process.

Shadow's Fund is, hand's down, one of the best rescues in California. They treat all the animals in their rescue as if they were their own family members, not only providing food and shelter, but medical care, training, abundant exercise, social opportunities with people and other animals, and tons of enrichment. They go above and beyond the Five Freedoms to ensure that their rescue animals are happy and stress-free, and should be a model for rescues throughout the US. And they do it all on a shoestring, with the support of the community and an small army of dedicated volunteers.

I discovered Shadow's Fund when I was looking to adopt a new dog after a disastrous adoption that ended in a tragic behavioral euthanization. I was heartbroken, and severely doubting myself, and knew I would need to find just the right dog. A friend of mine told me about Shadow's Fund and their amazing match-making skills, and they found me just the right dog, and his best friend as well! To ensure that the integration into our family went well (traumatized dog from previous rescue attack, autisitc daughter). We live 1.5 hours away from the rescue, and they still brought Tigger and Piglet to our house for acclimation visits at least twice a week for over 2 months! Talk about commitment!!!! As a result, we have the perfect pair to add to our family -- they have made us whole again.

As a former volunteer and Professional trainer, I have spent many hours at Shadow's Fund.
I have seen many a rescue, but none of them that give so much, to ensure the wellbeing of the animals in their care.
It's more than just housing a dog, pig, or horse.
It's about not only feeding them, but making sure all of their needs are met. From exercise to play, from love and affection, from
keeping their minds stimulated to understanding their feelings and special needs. All of this, and so much more, is carefully considered for each animal.
The love, compassion and endless hours of fulfilling needs, is of the highest priority to not only the founders of this amazing rescue, but also the many loving and caring volunteers.

We adopted our last dog from Shadow's Fund in November of 2017 and couldn't be happier. Thanks to Jill, the co-owner/founder/mother of pits, and her excellent match making skills, we were paired with the perfect dog-our sweet Reba Mae. A new dog brings lots of challenges when adapting to your home and Shadow's Fund was there to help all of us have a positive loving experience. They provide a wonderful Facebook Group for all of us adopters and they check in to make sure all is well. We are now fostering an incredibly sweet pittie for Shadow's Fund and are so appreciative of all the support they give us with advice, training, boarding and coverage of the vet bills. Not to mention love and emotional support. They do everything they can to give their rescues /adopters/fosters the best chance of succeeding! Please consider donating to support all the wonderful work they do!

It’s hard to condense several years of wonderful moments into a single reason Shadow’s Fund should be recognized for this award, I guess the best word to use is love. Love for the forgotten, abused, abandoned dogs they rescue, rehome, mend, heal, train, never give up on and promise no more bad days to. Their hearts have been broken hundreds of times for those who were lost yet they continue to save every life humanly possible. Their love extended to inmates at the prison, pairing them with a special dog to love and train, saving two souls at a time. Against so many odds they persist, giving their all to save one dog at a time and in the process they’ve saved a few people, too. Shadow’s Fund isn’t just a place or group of people, it is an ideal, a place to heal and reestablish hope and joy in all living things, and they stand at their gate with open arms. They richly deserve this recognition and more.

I was the first volunteer for Shadow's Fund over 10 years ago. I wanted to help, and the first dog I walked was Mia, an abuse case out of Santa Barbara. I could not have met nicer people, more wonderful dogs and become involved with a more fulfilling cause. Their dedication and the size and scope of their mission has only grown year after year and not only crosses county lines but now reaches out to other states as well. They not only rescue dogs from Death's door but also from terrible living conditions. They restore the dogs health, their faith in people and the promise of 'no more bad days' is one they make and keep with each and every dog. They have a community outreach program that assists families who need help with veterinary care, dog food, fence fixing, training and they do everything they can to help families keep their dogs. I could write a book about all Shadows Fund has done for animals and people alike and still not feel like I covered it all. Jill, Cody and all the volunteers are a wonderful organization that truly deserves recognition and I hope they get it. Thank you.

My family has volunteered with Shadow’s Fund for years. Our kids grew up fostering dogs (especially moms and litters of pups) for them. They serve as the safety net for the abused, senior, misaligned and misunderstood unwanted dogs (and horses, pigs and sheep) in our county. It is a privilege to work with Jill and Cody and the SF Team. The world needs more humans and organizations like them.

This organization does so much for the homeless, abused, unwanted animals of Santa Barbara County. They have a true sanctuary with dogs, horses, pigs, etc. When other rescues won't step forward, SF often does. Many lives have been saved by them! Their Bright Beginnings Program takes in mothers and litters of pitties and socializes and trains the pups to become breed ambassadors. Their Take Me Home Project: Kennels to Couches takes dogs with no local options to loving homes in the PNW.

Thanks to Shadow's Fund this beautiful boy is alive and living the good life with his mom. When Magic was at risk of being put to sleep I reached out to Jill for help. Without Shadow's Fund I would not have been able to foster him. The support I was given as a first time foster was beyond helpful. They were with me every step of the way with love and compassion. And he is just one success story. When i needed help with other dogs, even if they were unable to take on another dog Jill was there for me with support and encouragement. I can't say how many homeless dogs (and other animals) they have saved...but I know there a so so many. For the needy homeless dogs, the older, the sick, the Pit bulls no one wants somehow Shadow's Fund finds a way to help.
Their commitment and devotion to the Senior dogs is probably the most beautiful part of what they do. They give these dogs so much love, attention and comfort in their golden years. Jill and Cody are, in my opinion, Angels on earth.
One doesn't need to know them personally though. Just reading their posts on Facebook has gained them the admiration of so many people from all around the country because it is so clear how committed they are to the well being of all the animals at the sanctuary.
I have worked with many non profits and I can say without hesitation that one would be hard pressed to find a more worthy organization than Shadow's Fund. I adore these people!

I have been a volunteer at Shadow's Fund for the past 5 years. I am there 5-6 days a week cleaning the dogs rooms, dog bowls, feeding and helping in any way needed. The animals here are shown so much love and have rooms that make them feel as if they are in a home , not in a shelter. They are walked daily, take turns going to one of the parks at the rescue and go to play groups for interaction with other dogs. We even have volunteers that take the dogs for car rides and one volunteer takes a different dog home on Thursdays for the night to give them a night out. Jill and Cody make this feel like a home and the animals and volunteers are one big family. They give so much of their selves to save the dogs and find forever homes for each and everyone of them. That may require them to drive a dog ( or 5 dogs) to Oregon or Washington or where ever a forever home may be waiting. They even have an entertainment room where a dog can come in with a volunteer and spend a couple hours watching a movie and getting Human Interaction. It is such a pleasure working with such loving and dedicated people. Shadow's Fund is such an asset to our community and such a God send for the animals that are rescued.

I can not express my gratitude enough for Shadow's Fund in Lompoc!
I fostered a hospice pit bull, who had cancer. She was given 4wks & I said sure I'll help her. Snowball lasted a year with us, before crossing over♡ she was our 1st pit bull.
A week after Snowball passed, our town had a huge fire. Shadow's Fund asked if we could foster another that needed to be the only dog in the house. We said sure! That's when Gracie came to us. We eventually wound up adopting her♡ she's a wonderful addition to our family♡.
When the time comes again. For another dog we will be going back to Shadow's Fund. They are wonderful & helpful. I had alot of questions. Haha the volunteers are amazing♡ they always keep in contact checking in on Gracie since she was there a few years. She is their baby as much as she is ours. I would highly recommend Shadow's Fund to anyone♡♡

You’ll also see the heartbreaking stories so have your Kleenex nearby. Honestly, go learn about Jill and Cody and the sanctuary. You’ll be glad you did. In addition to rescuing pit bulls, senior dogs, and other dogs in need, Shadow's Fund has also initiated a program to ensure that puppies are properly socialized and trained. Another program initiated by them is to transport dogs from Southern CA, which has a high density of pit bulls in the shelters to the Pacific North-West, where the shelters do not have enough pit bulls to meet demand. It is so satisfying to see pictures of dogs transported from Southern CA to Washington, meeting their forever family for the first time.

I have adopted two pit bulls from Shadow's Fund. Jill and Cody spent the time necessary to make sure my dogs were a good fit for me and that I was a good fit for them. My dogs, Charlee and Chaplin are part of my family, thanks to Shadow's Fund.

Finally, I like Shadow's Fund so much, I volunteer for them. The amount of work they do each day, including weekends, is both inspiring and tiring.

Shadow's Fund is a great nonprofit and Jill and Cody deserve recognition for how hard they work and the effectiveness of their programs.

Jill and Cody and their dedicated group of volunteers seem to have made it their life's mission, to help so many of these unfortunate animals, who have lost their homes. They work hard at socializing them, to make them easier adoptable, go way out of their way, to make sure that prospective adopters are suitable to the animal. I believe that because of their dedication, they have made many friends in our little community, who are willing to help their cause, but the need seems never ending. They seem to always find a way, to help one more of these unfortunate creatures, who would otherwise be on death row, through no fault of their own!
I applaud them all!

Last October 2015 Shadows Fund listed Snowball as a dog in need. She was in a local shelter with medical issues. They hated the idea of her staying on cold cement with all her tumors. She had a not so glamorous past with humans etc. I said I would foster her. Wasn't sure how it would be. I had lost my bull mastiff in march 2015. Was in a bad depression. But her story broke my heart. She came October 3 2015. And is still here with us. I believe she has saved me emotionally! I will go back to Shadows Fund when the time comes again. They gave me a reason to smile & get out of bed again. I am forever grateful for their compassion & love for all the dogs. Thank you♡

I have been a volunteer and supporter of Shadow's Fund for over 5 years. I also adopted my dog Canelo from this rescue. I am proud to be a small part of this organization. Jill and Cody's 24/7 dedication goes above and beyond. These two co-founders are the drive, passion and devotion to the cause. There is an over whelming and never ending need for this rescue. Shadow's Fund is not just a dog rescue but a sanctuary for horses, sheep, pigs and all wild life. These animals thrive and get second chances. Of course the main objective is to find loving forever homes for the dogs. Hundreds of dogs have been adopted, not only in our area of Central California but also in Oregon and Washington. This is not an easy under taking by any means. It takes very special people to take this on and devote their lives to it. Jill and Cody definitely deserve the recognition.

Shadows Fund is absolutely our favorite nonprofit. They go above and beyond with everything they do. We adopted our Gypsy girl from them and when she was diagnosed with some health issues, they went out of their way to help us. Sometimes it was giving us advise and helping us locate treatments and other times it was reaching out with a kind word to let us know they were thinking of our girl. When we were ready to expand our "furfamily" they put a lot of thought and time to ensure a successful match. The Shadows Fund crew truly love every animal that they help and are dedicated in make sure every home their furbabies go into is safe and loving.

Shadow's Fund is an amazing organization. While the primary function is to rescue high risk shelter dogs, they are also a sanctuary for pigs, horses and a sheep. They provide a safe, stimulating, happy life for all the animals in their care while attempting to find loving forever families for their adoptable dogs and provide assistance and education to the local community. I have been a volunteer for about 2.5 years and have somehow only managed to bring home one dog. The ranch on which the rescue and sanctuary are run is my happy place. I only wish there were more hours in the day and more days in the year so I could spend more time with the animals and people there. I have grown to love them all deeply and consider them my family and part of my tribe.

Shadows fund is quite simply a cut above the rest! The dedicated owners of this rescue for high risk dogs work 24/7, literally, to assist in the rehab of heartbroken, at risk shelter dogs and to build back hope and love for them. Once ready, a team of wonderful volunteers assists in matching these dogs to the appropriate owners so that they live a happy ever after promise. Honestly, these folks are angels on Earth!! There is no doubt in my mind that this non profit should headline your group of winners. They are definitely what's "right" in the Central Coast!!

Shadows Fund is an amazing rescue organization. My boyfriend began volunteering there because he wanted to make a difference in the dogs lives. Really, they made more a difference in his. I had the opportunity to visit a couple times and walk the dogs and it was a real pleasure. The dogs are so well cared for by Cody, Jill, and the volunteers. There stalls are large with indoor and outdoor space, furniture, beds, and blankets. They have food and treats and all of the animals are happy. They get to live in a nice environment around people who love them while they await their forever family. I donate to shadows fund whenever I can and would love for such a selfless organization to receive more attention and help from others who may not have heard of them yet.

Shadows Fund goes above and beyond to safe the Dog's in desperate need for Sanctuary, Rehabilitation and Love. Our family dog Daddy is one of the Lucky dogs that got the infinite amount of love and Care from Jill, Cody and all the awesome Volunteers. Coming out of a cold riverbed scared, sick and abused not many people saw potential in him or would have made the effort to give him the care and love he truly needed to fully recover and turn into such a funny little bundle of awesome filled with so much love and happiness. Daddy is just one of the huge amount of dogs that got a 2nd chance at life because of Shadows Fund.

Shadows Fund fills my heart with pride everytime I speak their name. The founders had a vision of - and live each day a lifestyle of - wisdom and compassion for the "tough cases" that most cannot take on. This reveals the unusually profound depth of their commitment to helping dogs, even against the odds. For a number of years I have been organizing and running large fundraisers to benefit them, in fact I just completed one a couple of months ago. II am just a friend and volunteer, nothing more, but I have invested many hundreds of hours of my own time in fundraising because I believe in this organization and its mission so deeply. Their sanctuary/shelter is large, peaceful, and beautiful, their resident animals get excellent housing, care, and support, and those who know them are, like me, filled with respect for their intelligent programs, many successes, refusal to give up on dogs in need, and great personal integrity. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Amazing organization! They take animal sheltering to a new level. Not only do they shelter animals, but they take animals that may have come from a less than happy situation and are not very social and work with them to socialize them at the animal's pace and comfort level, until they are ready to find a happy home. Shadow's Fund takes the time to work with families interested in adoption and make sure it is a perfect fit for both the animal and the family. We adopted 2 dogs from them and are so happy with them both. They are great family dogs and are very well behaved when we take them to the dog park to socialize with other dogs.
We were happy to see how well cared for the animals are at Shadows Fund. The dogs are kept in large rooms with lots of space, have furniture and houses in each room, and even have a family room with a TV for families to interact with the dogs in a home-like setting while getting to know them. There are several very large exercise yards for the dogs to play and have social time with other dogs. All of this is situated in a beautiful ranch setting that welcomes and relaxes all who visit.
