Mission: To eliminate sexual violence and its impact by providing education, advocacy and support to women, men, and children. Our vision is a community free from sexual violence.
Programs: Sexual assault resource agency (sara) provides direct services to more than 500 survivors annually, and in 2016 delivered prevention education to more than 8,700 students. We reach hundreds more through our events and community outreach programs. Sara's prevention educators work within local middle and high schools to educate students, teachers, and parents about sexual assault prevention. Sara counselors provide individual and group therapy for survivors and their families, both in crisis and on an ongoing basis. Our er advocates are on call and provide advocacy for men, women, and children who go to the emergency room for a forensic rape exam at the uva medical center. We also have a 24/7 sexual assault crisis hotline. Sara is the only agency to provide these services in the city of charlottesville and in the counties of albemarle, fluvanna, greene, louisa, and nelson. We have been doing this for over 40 years. We don't charge for our services. While we do receive grant funding, this does not cover all of our expenses. We need corporate, private, and community support to continue our work.
