I found Sew Powerful at a time when I was needing a cause to use my sewing gift for others. This nonprofit speaks to my heart as a mother of daughters! The empowerment of women through the sewing coop portion is an incredible opportunity to lift up this group of people to a place of pride and purpose. It has opened doors for me in ways that have allowed me to share my experience and encourage other women and young girls to also help by making purses. To make a purse and change a life, that is a very worthy cause!
Sew Powerful is a wonderful organization. It has changed the lives of thousands of girls in Zambia and will now change lives in South Africa. Through the Purse program, girls can stay in school for 6 extra weeks. Through 3Esthers Farm and the Tikondane Backyard Gardens Program and the partnership with Convoy of Hope, thousands of kids are being fed everyday. I am so glad to be a purse maker and use my skills to help others. I have been able to get my friends onboard, both those who sew and who can't, and help change our world. The money we collect to help fill the purses is well spent and is openly accounted for.
I started sewing purses for Sew Powerful in 2014. This incredible ministry focuses on empowering women in poverty stricken Zambia. These women are taught skills that will help them support their families. The purses I sew are just a small part of the bigger picture. The women in Zambia sew reusable hygiene products and have learned to make soap. These items are packaged in the purses and given to the young girls so they can stay in school all month long - giving them an opportunity for a better life.
It was around 2015 or 2016 that I saw a post on Facebook about Sew Powerful.org. I had been making little dresses for girls in Malawi and had also participated with medical mission trips to Tanzania with my church, so I was very aware of the needs of young girls in Africa. Making the purses became a priority for me and I love how well this ministry, a fully volunteer ministry is run. It is an all-encompassing ministry which not only helps keep girls in school, but also provides jobs for the local women, feeds children daily, and teaches God's word by sharing His word and living according to His commandments. I am grateful and proud to be part of SP.
I have been volunteering for Sew Powerful since 2014. I started by making purses as gifts for girls in Zambia to have the menstrual health supplies (MHS) they need to stay in school. I was so inspired by the leadership, that in 2022 I went to Zambia with other volunteers and the leaders. I met the seamstresses who make the MHS and learned how the jobs they have allow them to feed their families. I distributed purses to grateful girls who understood that receiving the gift of a purse filled with MHS meant the difference between a life of despair and poverty and a life of hope. I toured the Sew Powerful farm and backyard gardens that feed families and hungry children. I highly recommend Sew Powerful as a stellar charity, well run, and truly making a difference.
I have been on the leadership team for Sew Powerful for almost two years. I love the passion of the volunteers. I love the stewardship of all funds received. The money raised is used to fund the program, with very little overhead costs, and no waste. Sew Powerful is known to many for the purse program, but if you visit the website www.sewpowerful.org, you will see that they do more, including a feeding program for the school kids. They empower women in Zambia by providing good paying jobs. I am a quilter, so I love the purse program. Each purse filled blesses a girl and helps keep her in school. Making a purse blesses the maker as much as the girl. A great community has been formed on Facebook, where it is so fun to interact and see different purses. Sew Powerful makes a difference!-in the lives of those who they serve in Zambia, and in the lives of the volunteers and donors.
I learned about sew powerful in December 2024. I knew right away that I wanted to join in and make purses. It warms my heart to know that I can make a big difference in so many girls lives. The pictures that you see of the girls and their purses tells the whole story! The smiles on their faces are so uplifting. I am honored to be a part of Sew Powerful. Thank you Janson and Cinimmon for creating this ministry. God bless you!
I first heard of Sew Powerful in 2014 and have been sewing purses ever since. I was fortunate to go to Zambia in 2015 to help distribute purses and learn first hand how important this endeavor is to the young girls and women in Ngombe. There is very little overhead and an all volunteer staff. We are making a difference in the lives of females using our skills and materials, sharing our passion for sewing and letting them know they are seen and cared about. I can't think of any other organization I'd rather be involved with.
I've been sewing purses for Sew Powerful for several years now. Over this time, I've really gotten to know the organization and how they take such good care of the girls and their families. Sew Powerful works with the people in the community and is always seeing to find ways to help them with a hand-up and not just a hand-out. These purses are filled with locally made menstrual hygiene supplies which then help the girls remain in school all month long. I'm excited to have a small part in helping these girls have a better chance at getting an education.
I love sewing purses to help girls in Zambia, Africa to stay in school all year long and that Sew Powerful employs Zambian women to make the reusable hygiene pads, laundry soap, uniforms and more for the girls too, by giving the women there a living wage that all comes from donations to Sew Powerful. Sewing is my passion and making bags is one of the things I love to sew. I can use my knowledge and talents in sewing and design to help young girls and women and that is a wonderful feeling for us all. Without the purses and donations these young girls won't be able to get a good education as they would miss too many days of school, getting farther behind and cannot make up the days missed. Many would have to drop out of school and have to stay home when they have their monthly periods. Education is the key for success and these girls will be able to get good jobs if they have an education. Together we are all Sew Powerful!!!
Volunteering for Sew Powerful gives me a purpose after retirement. Using the skills developed during my career years is confirmation that God always has a plan. Sew Powerful touches the passion of my heart, helping girls and women succeed. Making purposeful products and local employment for local impact are two ideas that really resonate.
I have been a volunteer since 2022. I have sewn purses and had the privilege of going to Zambia on 2023. I became a regional manager in 2024. I appreciate the transparency of leadership. Sew Powerful has a passion for the girls and ladies of Zambia. The organization is passionate about the people that they serve.Their mission aligns with my beliefs. They have been a wonder organization to partner with. I look forward to years of service and growth!
It has been an amazing opportunity and honor to volunteer with Sew Powerful. I love that they are empowering others to help themselves. The recipients take a leading role in the area of needs to focus on, as well as the outcomes. Sew Powerful makes a difference for thousands of people.
I have been sewing purses for Sew Powerful for 3 years now. I like how it is organized, and the fact that there is only a 4% overhead. This charity does amazing things in the lives of the very poor, and gives girls a chance at a good education. They also feed school kids, and have cleaned out the latrines/septic system at lots of schools, to help lower the cholera rate during the rainy season. They are doing so much good for the poorest of people.
