I attended camp as a camper starting at age 8. I went back every year I could as a camper and later as a counselor until I moved out of state at age 21. My involvement with Setebaid services has been invaluable. These programs exposed me to cutting edge treatments, peers who were navigating the same challenges that I was, and gifted me with lifelong friendships. These programs are more than just a “disability” program or a “support group.” These programs provide a foundation for a successful, full and fulfilled life with diabetes. Some decades have passed since I was that little camper, but I still feel so very lucky to have had those experiences and made those connections all those years ago. Setebaid Services’ programs are really something special.
Setebaid Services has been an incredible resource for the Type 1 Diabetes Community. As an organization primarily focusing on summer camp experiences, Setebaid strives to create an educational and positive environment for the campers. With a focus on safety, Setebaid partners with health care practitioners to make sure that the children are in the best of hands during their camping experience. I continue to be incredibly impressed by the amount of medical expertise Setebaid camps have to create the best experience possible for the children.
Our daughter is Type 1 diabetic and has been served by Setebaid and has attended Camp Setebaid. The difference they are making in these childrens lives is just amazing. Their staff is very professional, organized and truly there for the children. I am so glad to have this organization right here in our back yard.
As a volunteer for Setebaid Services camping programs, I got to see first hand how many children gain valuable resources from going to camp. As a young person living with Type 1 diabetes, it is often hard to find others that can relate to your experiences with diabetes. At Setebaid camps, everyone is just like you, everyone has T1D. And a majority of the staff also lives with the disease. It is awesome walking away from a camp and knowing that you can do everything that anyone else can do. And that you are not alone in your disease. Many campers go on to become staff members and lifelong friends with others they have met at camp. Setebaid Services truly does "turn diabetes around".
