I'm the Director of a church ministry that serves the homeless and poor of our County. I am also a member of the Knights of Columbus. I've worked with the staff members of SPIN for about 12 years. I've delivered food to homeless shelters and delivered donated groceries to their food pantry from Knights of Columbus food drives. I have nothing but positive reviews to my interactions with the staff! Everyone is very kind and helpful. I know that same attitude is on display with their clients by making comfortable housing a reality in the lives of the parents and children that they serve.

One night, me and my son fled a long history of violence and mental/verbal hell with only what we could carry for a better life. I sought help from public agencies, shelters, city resource directories, domestic violence organizations, school districts, churches, affordable housing lists, community centers, healthcare providers all across Orange County. Our journey of constantly moving in and out of motels and sleeping in our car ended thanks to the SPIN program !!!!!
We were finally able to live in peace and have a place of our own that is free from abuse. My son and I began to live our life and start taking care of ourselves once we received housing assistance from SPIN.
This is what sets the SPIN program apart from other nonprofits: SPIN always provided reliable referrals and the clear directions (steps) to take. My case managers consistently followed through with their promises and set them into action. The staff at SPIN never made me feel overwhelmed and understood the significance barriers I faced in overcoming trauma, domestic violence, and homelessness.
Without the SPIN program we wouldn’t be able to get out of a cycle of poverty.
We also received help to become financially stable that includes learning how to budget my income along with additional support with basic needs, dental and eyecare assistance.
I cannot express how thankful I am for the generous donors and SPIN ! I will forever be grateful for this opportunity and the serenity that we feel in our new home. The SPIN program has given us another chance at life.

Hit my name is Angellica Asoau . I wasn't spending 2022. It was me my husband and my five kids. We were living in a motel for about a year. I signed up with spin and I was the best thing that happened in our lives. We were able to find a apartment. And now we could actually say that we have a home. Serving people in need helped us tremendously with getting stuff for in our home and just being there when we needed somebody to talk to. All the workers there they do it with a full heart and don't judge all of us. For people that donated thank you for everything you do you help families that really need help. Serving in people were the best thing that happened in our lives because now we are living our best life. Thank you again for spin for helping us get back on our feet. I couldn't recommend any other places the only place that I recommend is spin they truly try to help you.

I recently joined Serving People In Need as executive director, advisor and donor. I joined this organization after extensive research on the unhoused community in Orange County, CA. This group has a thirty year history of helping families in crisis get placed in permanent housing. They also have a volunteer street service team that donates time and supplies every week to deliver hundreds of meals to local shelters. There are incredible community leaders on the board, many of whom have served for decades, and all of whom give generously of their time, talent and treasure. This is a great organization worthy of your attention!

Ladeshia Goubert is my human angel. She helped my daughter (7) and I get into our current residence two years ago and has kept in touch. Checking on us, asks how we're doing, is there anything we need. Mrs. Ladeshia has a heart of gold - she helped my baby and I with Thanksgiving dinner items as well as Christmas gifts for my daughter. Mrs. Ladeshia has been a huge support along the journey of me getting back on my feet. I am so forever grateful for Mrs. Ladeshia and the entire S.P.I.N Family. I am truly blessed for this program. I truly don't know what I would've done without Mrs. Ladeshia and the S.P.I.N organization.

Ready to get involved with the number-one organization in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa? Serving People in Need is an amazing nonprofit that helps so many people in amazing ways, serving to get homeless and down-on-their-luck people back on their feet via housing, food, and services. The warm, caring staff members of SPIN are wonderful to work with, and that has been my excellent experience as a volunteer for the past decade. On an as-needed basis, my grandchildren and I went to stock pantry shelves, sort clothing, and distribute backpacks--and learn what it means to get out of your own orbit and help other people. We have loved working with SPIN, and the three of us would recommend SPIN to anyone. People often talk about empathy--but SPIN does empathy, and nobody does it better! When you volunteer, you'll find the entire staff and director approachable, kind, and these are people who consistently make great things happen for disadvantaged local individuals. Giving back to the community is gratifying in a million ways--one of those things you will always be glad you did. Yes, indeed, SPIN has our hearts, and I promise that it will grab yours, too. It's simple to volunteer, and beyond exciting to give to a terrific cause.

I started helping to make sack lunches fir SPIN'S Street Services program 15 years ago. It is such a great program, mainly because the SPIN volunteers set it up so well. The SPIN spirit is evident in everything they do. It is a combination of caring generosity and sound practical wisdom. And that spirit begins at the top and goes right through the volunteers.

Hi, I was assisted by this organization, and I was provided an UNINHABITABLE APARTMENT UNIT prior to moving in. I was unsure of what these non-profits provide, nor was I aware of my rights as a tenant. I complained about the conditions the unit was provided to me to my case manager at the time and in response I get" There is Currently 3 units in that building that she will be asking for upgrades". Which never happened since My daughter, and I had to Sanitize and disinfect that unit and we had to deal with a non-working heater, carpet had been in unit over 20 years, active mold in the air and elevated airborne mold on the surface in my restroom and in the closet, water roaches etc. I was upset and angry because every time I will bring up any issues about the unit, I would be treated like I was crazy or lying or ignored. I asked the organization and the landlords for Inspection Records neither party provided such evidence until I no longer resided at that address. I was evicted for practicing my rights as a tenant and complaining to code enforcement and I had a mold company inspect the unit they provided an analysis and urged me to contact the landlords to address this situation since it was causing my daughter and I health issues, instead I was ignored and harassed and evicted and left on the streets with no were to go. I though this organization were supposed to provide healthy environments to humans and assist us in finding permanent housing, but I was wrong and taken for granted and left homelessness with no hopes or assistance. It's a shame that I trusted this organization with my family, and I really thought I was going to be treated fairly and finally provide my daughter a healthy environment and a place to make memories and have a stable housing but i was wrong. I hope this organization is taken accountable of their actions and finally somebody puts a stop to this injustice.

I first learned about Serving People in Need of Orange County ("SPIN OC") through a list of volunteer opportunities from my children's school. Once I began researching this organization I was really impressed by the variety of services and support that they provide to local families in need and the success they've demonstrated in helping those families transition through tough times. For the last couple of holiday seasons, my employer has "adopted" families and in each instance we received the most heartfelt thank you cards. SPIN OC is a very well run organization and I look forward to continuing to seek ways to further support the great work that they do in our community!

SPIN exemplifies the best of humanity, offering help – and hope – to homeless and at-risk families in our community!

And they also offer something for all of us – opportunities to help. Kim Frazier is the best-ever leader and volunteer coordinator, so kind, gracious and welcoming to all.

My family has been blessed to participate in SPIN’s Adopt-a-Family programs, make hygiene kits and brown bag meals for the Street Services program, and offer financial support as donors. Until homelessness and poverty are eradicated, SPIN is where we’ll go, to join with their many other supporters and help as best we can.

I have know about this nonprofit for many years. There are not many organizations that have such little overhead, 90% of the money that is donated goes to the people they serve. They are available for their clients 24/7, they not only put families in housing, they teach them to help themselves. Serving People In Need is a gem in the nonprofits in Orange County.

I became involved with SPIN almost 5 years ago when a fellow board member introduced me to the organization and its mission to serve people in need. The way that SPIN serves and helps people with dignity and respect first and foremost touched my heart. After joining the board myself, I soon became involved with the street services group within SPIN as I am involved and have a calling to help the ever growing homeless population in Orange County. Myself and a group of other friends go out to the this vulnerable population to talk with and offer support services a couple times a month. We take food and medical supplies that SPIN provides at no cost which helps us to start a conversation and provides a nice meal for the homeless we encounter. I have experienced the passion and love that the staff and the volunteers have for the SPIN clients and it inspires me spread the word about all the great things SPIN does for the those who don't need a handout, but a helping hand up. May God continue to bless SPIN and all of the people who are in need that they help

Serving People in Need (SPIN) is a grass roots, roll up the sleeve organization of volunteers and donors who believe it is their responsibility as fortunate citizens with a roof over head and food on the table to help those without. Especially those with children, which is the focus of SPIN'S outreach in Orange County. The non-profit is run by cost-conscious people who keep expenses low with approximately 90 percent of funds raised going to those served. In addition, most of the staff, the volunteers and the donors have been with SPIN for many years.
SPIN is not talk; it is action. Some 700 plus people housed this past year alone.

Interacting with persons in need and seeing the positive impact even a small gesture of goodwill brings is a special feeling. Besides meals for the homeless, SPIN provides assistance to families in need and shelter for many who would otherwise be on the street. SPIN is a very special organization doing great things.

I've volunteered with SPIN for 8 years, and every time I'm there, I'm impressed with the office staff, and all the things they do for people who need help getting back on their feet. They help families find housing, but might need financial help to start, and if they need furnishings, they help there. They will help with food and clothes too. I help make items for the homeless, and they visit them once a week, taking food too. If SPIN can't help, they are part of a network in OC and can find help thru another source, and it's done quickly. I think it's one of the greatest non-profits in OC.

My name is David Desmond and I am 53 years old and had my first child in June a beautiful baby girl. I had lost the job I loved in March laid off due to COVID I had been there for 7 years as a bartender and off-site coordinator. It was more than a job we were family there and I[planned on returning in July. NYFC went out of business instead after 30 years. I found myself in a position I had never been in. Savings down to zero and the possibility of being homeless being very real I reached out to SPIN and my counselor was Adreanna Solis was assigned to me. Adreanna became more than just my counselor she saved my family. And thanks to her and Spin I was able to have a roof and food in the house. I will always have such a huge debt of gratitude and thanks for her commitment and efforts saved my baby girl from being cold and hungry. She helped me when there was no help or hope available. Adreanna will always have a place in Priscilla my wife and mine Dave Desmond and my daughter Annalisa. I have thanked Adreanna many times but the impact she had on our lives is one I can't be said enough and we thank you again for your hard work and diligence for this I again say thank you Adreanna. My kids father and I split after 16yrs of being together. He was verbally abusive and his drinking was becoming a problem. He would drink more and more everyday. I decided to leave for my kids, they didn’t deserve to see us arguing every day. With no where to go my kids and I lived in my car and occasionally would stay the night with my sister. I found this program called HIS house who referred me to SPIN. That is when our lives changed. After talking with Natalie and discussing the program, we had our own place within 6days. I am so grateful happy relieved I have my own place to call home.

I received the number to SPIN by calling 211. When I called and explained my living situation Kim was very helpful and kind. I got an appointment fairly quickly also. Kim was due to go on vacation and transferred all of my information to Natalie who has continued to help my family from there. I was Homeless for a little over a month so when SPIN helped me move into my own place recently I was beyond grateful. They were able to pay my complete move in as well as stock my refrigerator and pantry to get us started. I have received a tremendous amount of assistance from this organization which has really helped to change my overall outlook on life. I am happier than I have been in years and best of all my family is once again in tact and we are looking forward to the future. I can’t tell you was a blessing they have truly been to me and my family!

Homeless and pregnant after being let go from a 5 year career as a Crude Oil Operator in Huntington Beach, I lost my townhome and all of my belongings. After two years of living in a homeless shelter, I was referred to SPIN with aspirations of a new beginning. My SPIN Case manager guided me on how to look for an apartment that was close to work and childcare, within my budget of what my low income would allow without failure. When I was approved for move-in at my complex, my SPIN Case manager came out to inspect the property for safety and suitability. SPIN paid for my deposit and first month of rental fees. SPIN filled my home with furniture and décor, knowing my needs they would put donations aside that brought tears to my eyes, replacing many things that I had lost. To follow up, I participated in workshops that encouraged me professionally to do more for my career. Monthly, SPIN filled my pantry with an abundance of food, this saved me hundreds of dollars every month. SPIN referred me to a nonprofit that worked with me to repair and improve my credit. My credit has been raised over 200 points in the past 12 months! My case manager held my hand when the doctor feared I may have breast cancer, checking in on me and being someone I could confide in while staying strong for my children.
SPIN received tickets by donation for Cirque de Soleil and I was able to take my children to their first circus, my first as well.
SPIN provided all new shirts and pajamas for my children for their first day of school!
By the many things that SPIN has done for me, to relieve the many stresses of maintaining a home and family, I was able to focus on work. I was hired and promoted within my first year of employment.

Working hard, and having the support of SPIN, I know I will never be alone and can someday help other women overcome homelessness.

Thank you to the many supporters of Serving People in Need, making the world a better place and providing hope to the Homeless in Orange County!

Single mother of 2 and was trying my hardest to get out of a motel where we had been staying for 2 years, although I had steady income it was hard to save living at the motel. Through SPIN they made it possible for my children and I to walk into an apartment we now call home. I can not thank all the staff at SPIN enough for their kind hearts and sincere ability to want to help out their community. They not only helped us get into an apartment, but they provided resources during the holidays, provided budgeting workshops and educated us on how to save and manage our money to make the dollar stretch. I am forever grateful for all that SPIN has done for not just myself but for my children, they have given my children more confidence and self worth knowing they aren't in a motel anymore and brought one of my sons dreams true which was to finally have a real Christmas tree for Christmas in his own home.

I and my family ended being homeless. My husband loss his job and I’m only working partime. And we can’t pay our rent so we ended being evicted. We don’t have any place to go. We used a hotel voucher from the county so we have place to stay and sleep because we have 3 children included a baby. After using all hotel voucher from the county me and my husband are really struggling financially. We apply for different affordable housing but because of a bad credit they always turn down our applications. We almost loss our hope but finally in GODS grace my husband find this organization “SPIN” they schedule us to do intake interviews and they don’t hesitate to help us. Right away they accept our applications. And our case manager Alejandra she’s been good to us and help us a lot. She even find the place for us that we can stay and we can call it home. They provide housing assistance for us. They provide food for my family. It’s amazing that this Organization help a lot of people including us, my family. And we’re praying to GOD that he will provide to them a lot of sponsors so they can continue what their doing. There organization is absolutely wonderful. They also provide a workshop for us to help us to get back to our feet. They also help my husband to get his certification HHA . And we would like to thank SPiN for everything you have done to my family. GODBLESS US

I was introduced to Serving People In Need (SPIN) by a colleague about 10 years ago and have been a fan and supported ever since. They are a wonderful non-profit doing everything in their power to help the working poor in Orange County. They like to say 'SPIN gives them a hand-up, not just a hand-out'. I have been fortunate to hear several first hand success stories at SPIN's Annual Dinners; heart breaking and heart-warming at the same time.

In January, 2018 I was elected to the Board of Directors and have really enjoyed being more involved (albeit small in the scheme of things) for the non-profit. The board consists of compassionate, generous people, who like myself, really enjoy giving back and helping those less fortunate. Everyone leads busy, hectic lives, but we make time to do what we can. Since June, 2018 to date, we have served 295 adults and children - we focus on FAMILY. In 2017, we served a total of 516 adults and children...incredible!

I am humbled, honored and very rewarded to be a part of Serving People In Need.

Jean and Kim and their staff are the most amazing people and have helped so many families. SPIN is more than a charity, the work they do is so important, they help families get back on their feet, emotionally and financially by providing support, training, housing and whatever is needed. I recently went to an event and one of their clients spoke so eloquently about the help she was given, it brought me to tears, SPIN helped her believe in herself again and she and her children are thriving. I had the privilege to have been a Case Manager at SPIN several years ago . I myself was a person who had been out of work for along time and through a County Program was assigned to SPIN . I was considered a Volunteer and remained one for over a year . I was then asked to become a employee . I worked with the Case Managers and other staff to assist their clients , over a few years I became a Case Manager . I was instrumental in helping families by finding homes for them , teaching them about nutrition , budgeting , self-esteem , and other tools to get them back into making their families secure. SPIN gave me the support and tools to accomplish my goals for my families. I became involved working with other agencies in the community . Again, always getting the support I needed . I have since retired and moved on but I still after over 3 years maintain a relationship with SPIN and some of my clients who are so grateful for all SPIN did to make their lives better for their families. I can truthfully say SPIN changed my life and the families I served . Annette (Duncan) Nicholson

Their coordinator, Kim Frazier, came to our school and explained SPIN's mission and how they help those less fortunate. Our class created our own crafts, which we sold and raised $300, which we then used to buy items for sock kits, and then we assembled these kits and donated them back to SPIN. 3 years ago I lost my job of 20 years, coupled with the economy being in a bad recession I was unable to get a job, my 401k gone and our savings depleted we lost our home , with the little money we had left my wife, my two sons and I went to live to a cheap motel for a few weeks. It did not take much time before we we were living in our car. One day I decided to reach out for help and I went to many non-profit organizations in Orange County , I have never heard so many "NO" when I needed the most help,
But after a few days of searching I knocked on SPIN's door and my guardian Angel Annette Duncan welcome me in and accepted my family in their "Rapid Rehousing Program" , within days my family had a place to live and I got the opportunity to become self sufficient again and provide for my family.
We were homeless for more than a year and there is no doubt in my mind that we would still be homeless without SPIN's help.
I got a great job , my oldest son is back in college , my youngest is a 4.0 gpa honor HS senior student on his way to a major university with an academic scholarship.
Being a college educated man I had never thought that this could happened to my family, but thanks to the beautiful people at SPIN I was able to get back on my feet and be a provided for my family.

I have had a close association with many charities through membership in National Charity League and I believe that SPIN makes the best impact in the lives of the people it serves. The dedicated staff and passionate director make this organization stand out among the others. Just ask one of their clients and you will be in tears listening to their beautiful "success stories". As Human Services majors, we are required to complete three internships at different sites; SPIN is the third site I've been with and definitely my favorite. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and pleasant to work with. In my opinion, they genuinely love what they are doing and are dedicated to helping their clients and all people who come into contact with the agency. I have a gained much knowledge and experience as the agency has provided me with a variety of opportunity--everything from working with and referring clients, to learning about functions and procedures in the office, and even hands-on work with "Street Services," we actually go out to meet and provide meals for the homeless. I plan to continue on with SPIN as a volunteer, even after my internship is complete.

SPIN has become our new charity of choice over the last few years. I have organized large drives for warm winter clothing, hygiene kits and food for the homeless and local shelters that they serve. They are a wonderful small group that is professional, organized and friendly. They are truly dedicated to helping others in a hands on manner. Kim Frazier has come to speak to my Girl Scout troops and Assistance League groups as a volunteer. She has shown very impressive videos that share the plight of homelessness in Orange County. I am quite impressed with the operation of the SPIN organization and my family also gives regularly to the group because we strongly believe in the depth of what they are doing. Our daughters have also worked at SPIN for Girl Scouts and our older girls earned their Gold Award which equates to the Eagle Scout award through SPIN. We will continue to support this wonderful organization and are extremely pleased with the impact they are making in our community. I encourage others to see how they are helping to change lives...

I volunteer my time to work with SPIN because I truly believe in what they are doing and know that is is an organization that really helps people. My sister died three years ago from alcoholic cirrosis of the liver at age 42. She was a brilliant and wonderful person but needed help to get her life together. I wish I had known about SPIN earlier but when I finally did learn about how SPIN helps people help themselves I knew it was an organization that I wanted to work with. SPIN's extremely dedicated staff members and volunteers go above and beyond to improve the lives of the disadvantaged. They really care and it shows.

My name is Leigh Ann and I am a grateful alcohlic. To date I have over 2 years of sobriety. I LOVE SPIN! They were there for me when no one else was. The support I have received over the past 2 years has been amazing. My case worker Diane Noel went above and beyond for me and was my cheerleader all along the way. When I came to Spin I was broken and lost. I finally came to realization that my life was unmanageable. I gave so much away due to my alcholism, my kids, my job, my family and my self respect. I felt worthless. With Spin's help and guidence today I am a productive employee (same job for 2 years), an active mom, a girlfriend and a daughter. I sponsor other women and it is the bright spot in my life. I am more compassionate and less judgemental today. Spin gave "me" back to "me". I encourgage anyone out there looking for a different path in life to call Spin and see what an awesome life you can have too! They will help you as long as you are willing. THANKS SPIN AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

My Story By Lisa Montgomery Good Evening. My name is Lisa and I’m an alcoholic. When Diane asked me to speak on behalf of the SPIN program I leapt at the chance. I’m a huge fan of the program and it, in every sense of the word saved my life. If you were to tell me five years ago that the perfect storm was waiting for me…that I would know hunger, homelessness, despair, death, raging alcoholism, deafening loneliness, a suicide attempt and finally, fighting for my life in the Intensive Care Unit, I would have said you were insane. My best friend called me Martha Stewart. I had everything anyone could want. Now that comparison only conjures up the memories of her messy fall from grace, just like mine. But thank goodness both of us have managed a victorious resurrection. My perfect storm began with the death of my husband, followed by the death of my mother, the loss of my son, my lovely home, my beloved dog and my life as I knew it. As these events in my life were unfolding I just drank the pain away. I drank and drank and drank and drank, hoping that one day I just wouldn’t wake up. I was so ill-equipped to handle such pain that I could hardly breathe. I couldn’t function. I couldn’t work. All I did was cry and drink. My odyssey took me to a place I was very unfamiliar with. My addiction woke me up every morning at 4:00 and it shook me till 6:00 when the liquor stores re-opened. I was blacking out more and more now. My health was deteriorating fast. I was being admitted to the hospital about once a month by this time and each stay was getting longer and longer and more serious. Each surgery to take out a major organ or to put one back together was taking its toll. I weighed 95 pounds. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. One night I overheard a nurse telling someone I was dying of alcoholism. It stopped me in my tracks. I knew in my heart that she was right. It was no secret I was close to death. One of my surgeons sat down on my bed and said to me in the kindest voice…”please don’t do this, please don’t die”. I thought it so odd at the time but looking back I know now he was a Christian. It’s funny, when someone tells you you’re dying how indignant you can be. NO I’M NOT! Here I was, trying to drink myself to death every single day, but God-for-bid someone TELL me anything. I finally conceded that I needed help. I was released from the hospital and went straight to the Roque Treatment Center to get sober. Only problem was, they were full. That night I slept in the park. I just can’t tell you the kind of fear and terror I experienced that night. I was so sick and scared that I would just never wish that on anyone. When I got up that morning I went straight back to the Roque and begged them to give me a bed. They must have known how scared I was. I can only vaguely remember how bad I actually looked. Just 5 days prior I was recovering from major surgery to stop the internal bleeding. Just three days prior I was getting a blood transfusion. Just days ago I had a blood alcohol level five times the legal limit. Just last night I was freezing and sleeping in the park. Seven days later I was released from the Roque and faced the same dilemma. I had nowhere to go. I knew I couldn’t go back to where I’d come from because I would surely drink again. My legs were still wobbly and I felt horrible. I just stood outside with a plastic bag filled with all my belongings and prayed for someone to help me. Right then and there I met up with LeighAnn, manager of the Lighthouse. It’s hard to say in just a few words what she’s done for me. She has an innate way of knowing when I’m struggling. She has been one of my biggest cheerleaders and allies. I can’t be sure but I think she sleeps with one eye open. We can laugh now about what a sight I was. I often think about what would have become of me if we hadn’t crossed paths that day. LeighAnn told me to call SPIN the next day, which I did. In the next few days I met Diane over at SPIN. I was so scared. Everything scared me back then. She had arranged for me to get a food card and bus passes so I could come see her. I was sure she would notice my comb-over because most of my hair had fallen out. I was sure she would notice the piece-meal outfit I had put together from donations. I was sure she would notice my hands were shaking, my eyes were red and my spirit was broken. But she didn’t seem to. She just smiled and offered me all kinds of hope. She told me I could take as much food as I could carry on the long bus ride home. She told me to look for a job 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. She told me to get a sponsor and work the steps. But most importantly she told me “If you just listen to me and do as I say, in one years time you will not recognize your life as you know it now”. She told me to keep reading the promises and they’ll be mine. She gave me hope. I just started to cry. For the first time in a long time I felt safe. I was just so ready to believe in someone. I had absolutely nothing to lose. Diane told me about the benefits of the SPIN program and if I stuck with it so would she. I’m happy to say we both kept our promise. Diane had me looking for work 8 hours a day, seven days a week. I thought I would die. I was so sick I would literally jump off the bus and heave in the bushes. I had blisters all over my feet and I looked awful. But I didn’t deviate from the program. I just kept plugging away. Finally I found a get-well job, a place where they could appreciate my emaciated look…Sak’s 5th Ave. As my strength and confidence grew Diane would gently nudge me to the next step. She would strongly suggest that I do this or that. I would begrudgedly do as she said, still remembering her words….do as I say for one year. I always felt like I was on the edge of a steep cliff and I was going to fall off any second. But time after time when I felt that I was just about to fall into the abyss, SPIN had this huge feather bed waiting for me to land on. Seven months into sobriety I decided to go after a dream job. To my surprise I got it. An office overlooking Newport Harbor. New friends, new life, everything was perfect. Three weeks later I lost that job. I was devastated. I was terrified I would be homeless again. Then I hear the familiar chirp of Diane’s voice…”OK. get back out there, I want to see 10 job searches a day, I’m going to help you with your rent for two more weeks till you get on your feet, get back on the horse, get going girl, blaa, blaa, blaa”. I could barely get out of bed. How the hell was I going to start over again. Well, I did. I think I was just so petrified of Diane I just did it. She not only made me look for a job she strongly encouraged me to go to grief counseling at the same time. It turned out to be the turning point in my recovery. Erin was my counselor. She is also someone that has been instrumental in my recovery and I am so grateful to her. I can now get through a sentence without a tear when I mention my husband or my mom or my son or my dog scrappy-doo. My grief doesn’t obsessively occupy my thoughts. I can breathe again, and eat again and feel joy. Grief counseling was that last piece of my puzzle. Fast forward a week shy of my first year of Sobriety. I have my dream job and it has nothing to do with yachts and V.I.P.’s and ocean views. I work for a wonderful Christian family who love me. I get to take part in resurrecting two fledgling little bakeries. My boss tells me how lucky he got when he ran that ad on Craig’s List which I answered. I have a home office and make my own schedule. I’m often working quietly into the night driven only by my gratitude for my new situation. But most importantly I have sobriety. I have friends and family who love me. I have my friends at SPIN, with their fold-away feather bed if I ever feel as though I’m falling off that steep cliff again. I can’t wait for the day when I call Diane and tell her my son has come back to me. My best friend that I mentioned earlier recently said to me…”Lisa, what would you have done without SPIN?”. All I can do is shake my head and say “I don’t know, I don’t want to even think about it”. I unfortunately lost my sister Debbie this year to liver failure. My other sister Linda is very sick and her life hangs in the balance. But things are different today. I’ve learned acceptance and more importantly I’ve learned I’m a survivor. And I will survive this too. Thank you for letting me speak today on behalf of the SPIN Program. It’s been an honor and my pleasure. My name is Lisa and I’m a very grateful alcoholic.

I am eternally grateful to the people who run SPIN. When I got out of prison, they helped me find a place to stay and get my life back. The counslers helped by guiding me to find a better way of life. I owe them a debt of gratitude for I now have 4+ years of being clean and sober. My heart and thanks to them all.

SPIN has to be one of the most worthwhile causes out there. The ability of this organization to get people on their feet is amazing. Instead of just simply providing hand outs, they produce results via an excellent combination of sustenance, shelter and training. I would highly recommend SPIN to anyone looking for a better place to donate their charitable contributions!

I have been indirectly involved with SPIN for several years. I have attended and helped with their fundraisers, helped by contributing whenever possible, and have learned about their efforts through friends. They have provided countless meals and hygiene supplies for the homeless, counseled those who have addictions, and helped those without jobs secure employment.

There is much I could say about SPIN, but simply stated, I am here because they were there. I came out of a hospital in July of 2000, homeless, penniless, and hopeless. Diane Noel, got me into a Recovery Home where my life was saved. I had been actively alcoholic for twenty-seven years. Because Diane was such a servant to this poor soul, I was able to get and stay sober. Because of Diane's effort, I now run a recovery facility in Michigan and California, where I own a private enterprise and a non-profit corporation dedicated to recovery, and serve as Executive Director. Because of Diane's efforts, the three children I hadn't seen in twelve years and I were reunited and are an integral part of my life. Because of SPIN I can help those three wonderful young people attend college. Because SPIN and Diane were there for me, I can be there for others. SPIN has directly saved thousands, and now they indirectly save thousands more. This is as good as it gets; SPIN saved my life...then gave me a new life...now we work to restore the lives of others. How many organizations can say that?

I am very grateful for the help I received through SPIN. My case manager Diane really helped me to be accountable and grow up. She stuck by me when I thought no one ever would again. Diane taught me the importance of telling the truth and working a 12-step program. SPIN saved my life, I really believe this. Thank you SPIN.

I work with SPIN as a receptionist through a Senior Community Service Employment Program. I have been out of work about 2 years and was fortunate to be accepted to work with SPIN. I have never been exposed to a non-profit before this experience. I feel so privledged to be able to be associated with such a giving, caring and compassionate group of individuals. It has been a true eye opening experience what a difference this kind of organization can make in a community. I know that I will take this with me the rest of my life and always remember to give to others even when I have very little myself.
