Mission: Sequoia ForestKeeper's mission is to protect and restore the ecosystems of the southern Sierra Nevada including both Sequoia National Forest and the Giant Sequoia National Monument through monitoring, enforcement, education, and litigation. By acting as the eyes, ears, and voice of the forest, SFK seeks to improve land management practices; to promote land stewardship, to enforce existing laws and regulations, to implement public awareness programs, and to offer assistance to local land management agencies.
Results: We have kept Sequoia National Forest from clear-cutting old-growth mixed conifer forests in Giant Sequoia National Monument and Sequoia National Forest.
Target demographics: continue the legacy of ancient forests for all generations.
Direct beneficiaries per year: preserve habitat for cavity nesting wildlife.
Geographic areas served: the Southern Sierra Nevada in Kern, Tulare, and Fresno Counties.
Programs: environmental education, policy review, project comments, and litigation.
