As a Patron, volunteer and Advisory Board Member for the San Mateo Self Help for the Edlerly, I have witnessed on a weekly basis the meaning of the center to those who visit. For many, it is a social place to meet friends and have coffee or tea, read the newspaper, have a hot lunch, attend a class, lecture, internet cafe, LTK, Tai Chi, movie, bingo and the list goes on.
As a long time volunteer of Self-Help, I have witnessed the dedication of the staff at various meal sites and residential care facilities of this fine agency. My father-in-law suffered a stroke seven yrs. ago and thanks to the help of the Homemakers Department at Self-Help, we were able to find good, reliable and qualified home health aides for my father-in-law. My daughter who lives in San Francisco uses a housekeeper from Self-Help on a bi-monthly basis. We could not have been more pleased with the services offered by Self-Help.
I have been a board member of Self Help for several years. I have witnessed first hand how the entire organization works together tirelessly for the well being of the elders they serve. The organization has recently expanded its service area to San Jose and will need many volunteers and major sponsors in the San Jose area. Please join us to make a difference in your community. Thanks.
As a recent volunteer at the annual San Francisco Dragon Boat Races, I was given an opportunity to see this great organization in full operation. Their outreach programs and activities allow the community a chance to see what the organization does best. At the end of the race, it was evident the organization does what it does best which is to open their door to anyone in need. At the end of the race, I felt like I was apart of this growing family. I can not imagine the many smiles and warm hearts this organization affects with their services.
