As Seicento’s founding artistic director, I find the community response to having an ensemble that specializes in music from 150 years (1600-1750) to be very positive. We’re filling a void in a time when we need the arts so badly. Seicento has brought over two dozen delightful and unique programs— lesser known treasures of the baroque era— to the area, and there’s still much more great music to be explored. The singers are dedicated, capable, and a joy to know and work with. I’m honored that this organization has survived COVID and has successfully entered its second decade.

This group performs choral music of the baroque period to high standards, often accompanied by period instruments, and faithfully to the period's style. It does major works of the best-known composers, e.g., next spring Bach's St. John Passion, a few years ago the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610; smaller works of well-known composers, e.g. Palestrina, Vivaldi, Handel; and lesser-known composers of the era. Not long ago an entire concert was given over to works by South American baroque composers.

Seicento Baroque Ensemble is the only group dedicated to performing 17th-century music on the Front Range of Colorado. I’ve sung with them since their inception. Great music, great ensemble!

I love baroque and renaissance music (besides many other genres!) and I love to sing. I'll never be more than a decent 'spear-carrier' member of the chorus, but I was good enough to join Evanne Browne when she asked for singers for Monteverdi's 'Vespers of 1610'. This awesome piece gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, so getting to sing it was amazing. Then she went on to form Seicento, and I've been fortunate enough to be part of it ever since, as time allows.

Evanne is a demanding and extremely knowledgeable director, and a delightful person. She expects the best from her singers, and helps us to learn what we need to accomplish her vision. I feel very much at home in this group, where the good cheer and camaraderie make every rehearsal something to look forward to. I could write pages about the choice of rarely heard music, the surprising bits of knowledge that emerge from the singers, and the wonderful period instruments that accompany us, etc. Check the website! We're amazing!

Seicento performances get well deserved rave reviews. We put a lot of love and work into making them memorable experiences. Please help us keep doing what we love, so we can perform this splendid music for years to come.

This group performs beautiful Baroque music with amateur and professional musicians. It is one of the few early music groups that performs with period instruments. Fabulous music!

Seicento creates stunningly beautiful music with authenticity, professionalism and joy! The ensemble has been welcoming and supportive to me, a new member, encouraging me to step into the fullness of who I am as a person and musician. Evanne Brown is top notch in every way, inspiring the best and simply a delight as director. I pinch myself at my good fortune for being accepted into such a high quality musical group!

Seicento provides a unique opportunity to hear choral music of the Baroque and Renaissance. It fulfills an important cultural, educational, and musical role in the life of Boulder and surrounding communities. Its twice yearly concerts, always with a particular theme, give audiences a chance to hear music that is the foundation of the Western classical canon.

I joined Seicento in 2017 because I love Baroque music. The programs have been varied and interesting to sing. As a singer I have the opportunity to stretch myself learning new music. As a performer, it's satisfying to see audience members enjoying the show. I like to help out by volunteering for assistant stage management tasks , and organizing volunteers to be ushers and to sell tickets. Seicento is a positive part of my life!

I’ve been happily involved with Seicento Baroque Ensemble as a singer and volunteer for six years. It is the challenge, quality of sound, and use of period instruments that delight me and audiences that attend our concerts. The ensemble’s focus on historically informed baroque music performance is unique in Colorado. The presented music of a wide variety of period composers provides a great educational opportunity for ensemble members and the public. As Seicento hires professional level vocal soloists and instrumentalists for each concert series, the organization also helps these musicians in advancing their careers and enriching the soundscape experience.

Seicento Baroque Ensemble brings alive music of the 17th & early 18th centuries with historically informed performance. This period, roughly from Monteverdi to Bach, produced many well known masterpieces and lesser known gems that have stood the test of time and bring delight to audiences today. I love this music and Seicento is all about the music.

Seicento Baroque Ensemble consists of a chorus and instrumentalists. They specialize in lesser-known baroque music and composers. As a board member and singer in this ensemble, it's really fun to learn about these composers and their life in the baroque era. What makes Seicento unique and wonderful is its outreach to kids- they had a great experiential program planned to educated children about baroque music and even dance- it was unfortunately cancelled because of the pandemic. I love to listen to the high-caliber musicians who play in Seicento's concerts; they're very professional and obviously love what they're doing. And Seicento's Artistic Director Amanda Balestrieri makes sure she educates the chorus about what they're singing- she emphasizes helping the singers to express to the audience what the music is all about.

I have been a concertgoer and volunteer with Seicento for a few years now, doing everything from ushering to ticket sales to grant writing, and I am so impressed by the quality of the music performed here. It fills a niche in the Colorado music scene: outstanding Baroque choral music.
