Mission: To support animal rescue groups and charities in their goals of increasing adoptions of homeless pets and reducing pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs. The organization offers a high quality thrift shopping experience in a clean, organized retail environment with a focus on providing excellent customer servce to encourage repeat business and word-of-mouth promotion. Proceeds from the sale of donated items are used to support store expenses and to issue monetary grants to various animal rescues to support the mission of reducing euthanasia of adoptable pets and finding homes for homeless pets. Most grant recipient organizations are exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the irs code.
Programs: Second life thrift store operates through donations of clothing, furniture, toys, shoes, sporting goods, household items and other goods received from the general public for sale to individuals in their stores. From the sale of these donations, the organization provided cash grants of 241,025 to 64 animal rescue organizations to assist these organizations in providing, various services, including veterinarian and medical services such as vaccinations, heartworm testing and treatment, spay/neuter operations, transport fees and overall care of homeless dogs and cats. Costs for services range from 35 to 175 and it is estimated around 3,000 animals received services during the year. Spay/neuter services prevented unwanted litters from being born and helped to end the suffering of animals that would otherwise end up in shelters that euthanize.
