If hearing the story of how Second Chances Equine Rescue came to be isn't inspiring enough, spend just one volunteer session at the Rescue, and you will "get it". I began volunteering February 11, 2020. I've loved horses all of my life, have been involved with rescuing dogs for many years, and was still in the grieving process after losing my father. Volunteering with Andrea and her group turned out to be one of the best things I've ever done in all my 60+ years. Being allowed to be part of the recovery and rehabilitation of the horses means the world to me. Working with them, seeing them learn and grow to make them more adoptable is amazing. Getting to know each of the equines through feeding and grooming is heart healing and heart warming. I am constantly in awe of how Andrea and the Board of Directors keep the Rescue going, providing for all of the herd's needs on a wing and a prayer, and thankfully donations. I am not a social person by any means, but being with the group of staff and volunteers is great because we are working together for the same overall reason - taking care of these beautiful animals who deserve so much more than the life they were in before coming to Second Chances. My retirement from work is in the near future and one of the things I am most looking forward to is having more time to spend at Second Chances Equine Rescue.
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Second Chances. I started volunteering in Jan 2019. I came not having any experience or knowledge of horses and I've learned so much. I'm always anxious to learn more, to help more. The program Andrea is running for these horses is outstanding. I am constantly amazed at the change in each rescue after their arrival. These horses come from rough situations and/or in terrible condition and through the love and care of Second Chances, they are rehabilitated into happy, healthy horses.
I am so thankful Second Chances exists. I have fallen in love with the horses and the peace it brings to know they are in good hands. I plan on volunteering for many years to come. It is so good for the soul, a wonderful, heart filling experience.
This place is among the best places I have ever seen, for a simple reason: it rescues not only horses, but humans as well. When you find yourself not being able to function and feel alone, this is the place to go. Even if you don't want to talk to anyone, just be there. It helps, with any type of depression or anxiety. I say this from personal experience. There are only a few people I actually respect, and the founder of this organization, Andrea Doolittle, is my top, most respected and cherished person. I recommend it to everyone
