Mission: Our purpose is to welcome in special-needs cats so that they may live their remaining days in dignity and peace. In doing so, we can protect them from cruelty, mistreatment, and premature death, and in the process, educate those around us that a senior or special-needs animal makes a great addition to any family. SCSCR is a cage-free rescue and sanctuary. We observe behavior and love our animals in a home-setting so that we may make the best adoptive matches possible!
Target demographics: Special-needs cats and kittens in Wyoming
Geographic areas served: Wyoming
Programs: A cat or kitten is considered a rescue cat if it was saved from unnecessary euthanasia. At SCSCR, we have beautiful kittens that were sick and needed a little extra care, 3 cats with feline herpes virus, a blind cat with chronic eye infections, a cat with very special dietary needs, several cats with arthritis, and a 24 year-old that needs extra care, but still has plenty of life to live. That's just to name a few! All of these are animals that may have been euthanized at a shelter or by their owners. The term "rescue" in this context literally means rescuing them from death. In the past, we have taken cats and kittens from local animal shelters that were scheduled for euthanasia. We also often receive calls from people needing help with litters of sick kittens they found. Our veterinarian office sometimes calls us to take an animal that was brought in for "convenience" euthanasia, in which the cat is healthy or treatable, but the owner does not want it anymore.
After our expansion, which we hope to have completed by early 2012, we will begin an intensive state-wide rescue program, taking healthy or treatable cats and kittens out of high-kill shelters and finding homes for them.
We believe cats have a right to life just as any other creature on the planet. All of our volunteers feel a special bond towards cats, which allows them to provide the care and compassion to our rescue cats that they so desperately need.
