My wife and I found our dog through Second Chance Pet Adoptions last August, and had an excellent experience. Jessica Jones, the dog program manager we dealt with, took time to understand what made a good match for both us and the dog; she arranged a meet and greet at the shelter between and our puppy's foster family, she let us spend 90 minutes together and never once made us feel rushed. Jess really wanted to ensure this was a good match, which we felt very good about.
In addition, their fees are very reasonable and covered shots & spay, and Jess went through our puppy's medical records and paperwork with us to ensure we understood everything. It's clear the team at Second Chance cares about their adoptees and the families they are going to live with. A great organization, and we're grateful they helped us find our Miss Lucy!
Second Chance is a wonderful organization and I can't say enough good things about them. Their people care deeply about animal welfare and serving the community. They do such amazing work and have for many, many years. If you're considering adopting a pet, I hope you'll do it through Second Chance! If you're considering volunteering or fostering, you'll have a great experience with them too!
I have volunteered with Second Chance for almost ten years! Staff and supportive, kind, and dedicated to the mission. I would highly recommend volunteering with and adopting from Second Chance!
Second Chance is a wonderful place for those special animals waiting for their person to come take them home. Our special boy Cheech was taken in by Second Chance and treated for heartworms and had mast cell tumor surgery. We decided to foster since our girl Lucy needed a friend. The staff at Second Chance were so helpful in finding us the right dog that would fit into our home. We took Lucy to meet Cheech and there was no doubt that they would be best friends. Lucy left us suddently about a month after we started fostering Cheech. It wasn't long before we knew Cheech had to stay with us forever, so we adopted him. He is the most amazing boy you could ever meet, and I really think Lucy picked him for us before she left. Thank you Second Chance for giving our boy a second chance and taking such good care of him. The staff and volunteers are so kind and helpful to all the animals. They are a dedicated team helping to save the lives of so many animals.
Second Chance is truly a wonderful animal shelter. I feel particularly strong regarding my love for them given my dog, Ben, suffered an accident as a young dog, resulting in the loss of one of his legs.
Ben was known to be a stray and was transferred from another county to Second Chance, where his operation and subsequent rehabilitation was performed. Second Chance had Ben for ~1 year before I was lucky enough to adopt him. Today Ben walks and runs like any other dog, and is truly one of the sweetest animals I’ve come to know. He does not have a mean bone in his body and loves other humans, which is a massive testament to the care and kindness of the staff at Second Chance. I will forever be indebted to Second Chance for the love they showed Ben to prepare him for his next journey as my best friend.
“My wife Sue and I became volunteers for Second Chance 5 years ago. We transport dogs and help at a lot of events. I also started a fundraiser to raise money to support all the wonderful programs we have.
The day I walked in their front door I knew I was meant to be part of such a special organization. They do so many great things for the animals. Every person at Second Chance does everything they can to give so many animals their forever homes. What a dedicated team!
It’s a real pleasure saving animals especially doing it as a volunteer for Second Chance!” :)

We have been to quite a few Second Chance events over the years, Based on how well run those were and the kind folks we met, we decided to give fostering a try with them. It was a great experience that we felt supported through from the very beginning. They made sure our foster dog was a good fit with our own dog, and succeeded in getting her into a great home! Second Chance and their employees truly care about their animals and doing what is best for them as well as taking good care of their volunteers. The are a well oiled machine that I am always happy to give what I can.
We have adopted from, fostered for and volunteered at Second Chance. They are an amazing organization with a clear vision on how they want to help any/every animal they can.
A great organization and a great team of people who love animals and work endlessly to find forever homes for cats and dogs. It was a wonderful experience going through the process of finding the perfect dog for our family.
I’ve been volunteering with Second Chance as a cat care volunteer for four years. What drew me to Second Chance initially was the Center’s two-fold mission to help homeless cats and dogs (whether already healthy or at least treatable) find permanent homes and to educate everyone about responsible pet ownership. The goal is ultimately to reduce the number of homeless animals. What has kept me coming back to volunteer every week is the enjoyment of meeting and getting to know new cats. The staff and volunteers are welcoming, dedicated, and knowledgeable. I always leave my shift having learned something new about cat behavior, illness, or human nature. I like to feel that I have made a small contribution to the Second Chance mission. Like other volunteers, I have cats of my own, one of whom is a Second Chance cat.
I have been volunteering at Second Chance since I retired in 2016. I help take care of the cats at the center, giving them food, medication, and love. I have never been happier. My volunteer work gives my life meaning and purpose. It is heart warming to see a sick, fearful kitty transform into a healthy, confident cat and find a loving forever home. All the staff and volunteers are totally dedicated to the wellbeing of the animals. It's nice to be part of such a caring community. I am a proud mama of 5 cats, all Second Chance alumni.
