Second Chance is one of my favorite community partners! I have sent countless students to volunteer with Second Chance over the last few years because I know they will always experience a meaningful day of service. The team at Second Chance takes the time to share the true meaning of what Second Chance is all about and their impact on our community. My students come away from volunteering from Second Chance with new skills (they love pulling nails from the wood!) and a greater appreciation and insight for those who have previously been incarcerated. Thank you to Second Chance for making my life as a volunteer coordinator so easy! See you soon!
Our group had a great experience volunteering for Second Chance. The people we worked with were personable and professional, and we were able to understand how our contribution helped their overall mission. Equally important, we got to meet and learn from great people.
As a customer, I have shopped here for my home multiple times. That experience alone is worth bragging about. However, as an employee of TEKsystems, I had the opportunity to volunteer here for a day and see what type of hard work goes into their daily routine. The employees were awesome, helpful, and very willing to help us with all of our questions. In learning about this nonprofit, I learned how all of the employees hired are people being given a second chance at their life and how impactful this place was for these men and women. Very empowering. I would definitely be willing to go back and volunteer more of my time.
Second Chance has not only been working to provide housing and other living essentials but to also give opportunities to honest people coming from a harsh background. The testimonials given to us by some of their employees pulled at our heartstrings and made us appreciate just what sort of assistance Second Chance gives. It's so hard to come from where they have been and this is the perfect first step to getting on the right path.
We were there with TEK Systems for #TEKgivesback and it was only a few hours of pulling nails and cleaning refurbished products but we were able to make connections that would have never been possible if Second Chance weren't there for them. Their fundamental desire to help give people experience and trade skills is the reason so many have made it back to a stable life.
As one volunteer said, Second Chance isn't here to just give these products another chance at life but to give people a second chance too.

I love Second Chance! I was first a customer, then a donor and then a volunteer. And now I am a repeat customer, donor and volunteer. Second Chance is a great place to come and feel good about the world. Retrain, Reclaim, Renew... that is what it is all about!
I have recently volunteered with my company at Second Chance and it was amazing! To have a place that gives those who need a second chance a SECOND CHANCE! The management team is very passionate about their organization and it passes through their staff as well. I had a great time working along side the many men and woman who work there. Kareem, Brian, and mareice were great! They made sure we had everything we needed and made sure we met back with our teams at the correct times. This organization is absolutely beautiful from its mission to the wonderful things they sell! And they sell everything! My new place to shop and volunteer!
This is a great organization! They are helping people in need and helping the environment, while improving the appearance of Baltimore. I loved my volunteer experience there and will definitely return! The leadership is great and their employees are wonderful, hard-working folks just trying to get ahead!
Great cause, even better people... Love working with them and would most definitely recommend them to anyone.
Very well run and organized. Everyone that we interacted with was dedicated and seemed to really enjoy their jobs and the work that they were doing.
Absolutely Love Second Chance! They have an incredible mission and an incredible staff. I have loved all our work with them and thoroughly enjoy their initiative in leaning new things and trying new things.
Anyone who ever needs a testimonial regarding this organization just call away and ill go and on about how great they are!
Cheers to Second Chance!
I was blown away with the decor when walking into the building. Building parts and Marquee signs dressed the area, some of which brought me back to some of the old buildings and museums I had visited.
But I was there to do a job, my group volunteered to assist with simple tasks for the day, and left with a better feeling from a Second Chance. The professionalism in the building, coupled with the stress on safety and their cordial attitude helped us to get the job done for the day.
My favorite part was spending time with those employed, learning some of the tricks of the trade and seeing everything through their eyes. From a hammer and nails to a broom, I could hear the "Whistle while you work attitude everyone walked around with.
After my day of work, I walked out proud of the team we had become for the day and proud of earning the callouses I had made.
This place is a DIY dream and Top Notch!
I just recently had the opportunity to volunteer at Second Chance with my coworkers and colleagues. I was so touched to hear the stories of so many of the employees that were offered a chance to start over irrespective of their backgrounds. I was touched to be able to share a day with a few of the employees working on the floor that day. In particular, I spent the most time with Karim and Bryan. They made us feel like we were truly a part of their team. They anticipated what we may have needed to complete the tasks assigned to us and frequently checked in to make sure that we were alright. They made our experience fun with light humor and by simply being themselves. I was honored to work alongside these individuals as they were so humble and hard-working. It was a pleasure to spend the day with them and I'm so excited that this non-profit organization pours so much into the lives of people who want create a better lives for themselves. It's absolutely amazing the amount of support this organization provides to the people who join their team, and to the community as a whole.
This organization is doing great I was proud to volunteer and contribute to a great organization.
I have been working wit Second Chance for the better part of four years- both as student volunteer and now as a professional in Baltimore. This organization is the best of the best and truly showcase what it means to build a "better Baltimore." Every volunteer that comes to the organization is taken with the charm and treasures of the warehouse but also the heart wrenching and inspiring stories of those who work at Second Chance. After a morning of volunteering, there is nothing better than roaming the showroom floor looking for a great deal!
I have volunteered a few times with Second Chance this past year, as well as being an avid shopper . The folks that work here are phenomenal, caring, and passionate about what they do. Their mission can be seen in how they operate daily, and I hope more people will stop by!
So yesterday I finally made it into this store! Every employee I encountered friendly, professional and helpful (so not what happens at big box stores)! And trust me, I had lots of questions! The store was incredibly organized! And the treasures I discovered! I can't wait to go back, just to explore! Btw, I did find the medicine cabinet I came for. And it was so much better than I'd hoped to find (real wood and half off, oh my!) I love this place!
Second Chance was a pleasure to deal with. We are building a house long distance and used them to recycle the material in the old house that was to be demolished. They handled everything! After meeting the team and being impressed with their professionalism and care, we didn't even have to show up. They did the job in a timely manner and left the site secured. They made doing a good deed painless and pleasant. We highly recommend them.
Second Chance is very easy to work with and the team there is fantastic!
Cari and her team are extremely helpful and professional! We have a great partnership with them, as we are a charity as well. When we are not able to accept donations, it helps knowing that I can refer the donors to Cari who will work swiftly to accommodate them! Second Chance also accepts our donations when they are not sold, which also creates a great feeling knowing that the items are going somewhere else for an amazing cause!
We had such a great experience with Second Chance who came in before our demo team to reuse, resell and properly dispose of more than 60% of a house we were tearing down. They were so helpful and responsive and amazing communicators. They were conservative and realistic with their estimate of how much of our structure they could use/reuse - and then we were so pleased when they were able to take even more. From start to finish, such a smooth, well-run organization. Highly recommend them!
We had Second Chance perform a deconstruction of our house and they did a fantastic job. The crew members were polite and courteous, they kept the job site very neat and clean, and started and finished the job on schedule. Great job!
I’ve been to Second Chance many times and LOVE it. Great prices on some nice pieces. Never know what you’ll find there. And I love they’re giving both people and things a second chance.
Second Chance is an amazing Baltimore treasure! I could spend hours wandering their huge array of materials. It's also a great place to volunteer!
I love Second Chance! I really enjoy this place as a new home owner. There is always something there for my home :)
Second Chance is a do-it-yourselfer's wonderland. I am on a limited budget and love going there not only to get fantastic quality for extraordinary prices but I get to see a world of priceless furniture, accessories and items that I would never see in regular retail outlets. I find myself wandering about just dreaming of where some of the products may have originated. Did they come from castles, mansions, famous people or exotic places. Such a vast array of different and unique produces. YOU HAD ME AT HELLO!!!
We are so lucky to have Second Chance in Baltimore. They provide our citizens with barriers to employment an opportunity to learn job skills, divert tons of useable materials from the landfill and help other non profits also get the way. Their mission...retrain, reclaim and renew should be adopted for our whole city. Love this place!
Second Chance does a wonderful job helping those with barriers to employment learn healthy, marketable vocational skills. In the process, they divert tons of debris from the wastestream and provide a treasure trovew of products to the public in their 200,000+ sq ft retail warehouse. They truly provide a win-win-win for Baltimore and beyond!
From start to finish, Second Chance provided an amazing experience for our group! I worked with KC to plan this event and work out the details for the day - every step of the way she was positive, response and best of all EXCITED! Because of this, for me (as the coordinator) the day was a breeze! For our volunteers, they had such an amazing experience working with all of the Second Chance folks, learning about their experiences and most importantly - putting in some work! We received such high praise from our volunteers about Second Chance. They loved that they got to do some real work and left feeling like what they did made a difference. I would highly recommend Second Chance for a group, ours was about 30 people and we were broken up into smaller groups, which worked well! Thanks, Second Chance, for such an important mission and sharing it with us for an afternoon!
Second Chance is a phenomenal social enterprise, located in the heart of Baltimore yet extending it's influence up and down the East Coast. How many organizations can boast that they provide a second chance for people, for products, and also for the planet? It seems that everything they do, from their massive store to their friendly donations team to their engaging social media, is done with excellence. I can't recommend them highly enough!
2nd Chance did a great job! Although I was not there during the deconstruction, my contractor was very pleased with their performance.
I was wary of using this charity because I had never heard of them and we, being located in Colorado, don't usually contract with a company half way across the U.S. Their performance on the site changed my mind completely. The six man crew they sent was absolutely outstanding, if I could think of higher praise I would give it. They were some of the hardest working, best attitude men I have had the pleasure of working with in 35 years of construction. 100% endorse them and I have shared my story with many in the building community in Colorado.
I love this place and its mission statement. They have an ever changing, huge inventory of furniture, appliances, art, and miscellaneous items (today I saw a small canoe size boat and a hot tub).
Items used for filming movies and tv shows as well as historic pieces find their way there as well as furnishings from demolished homes.
For those who donate you get a tax break and for patrons you're helping support training for their employees, many of whom are getting a second chance in the working world and in life due to previous convictions.
The staff is always ample, working together from fork lift operators to sales people to those assisting on the floor to bring items from the display areas located through out the ware house to the loading dock.
Parking is never an issue and you could spend hours there strolling up and down the aisles created by all the goods!
Prices vary but are fair and there are three prices based on the date. For example if an item isn't sold by the dates listed the price goes down. They have sales and holiday shopping prices too.
If you're looking for great items that you won't find anywhere else, and things with a story and character this is your place.
I would go every weekend if I could. The bathroom isn't the cleanest and it's cold because it's a huge drafty Ware house but other than that no complaints.
As you shop it's best to claim items by getting a salesperson to write up a ticket and have it moved to the loading area. Cash or card accepted.
We are so excited to make our own dining room table with lumber and materials we bought today.
Second Chance is an incredible asset to the Baltimore City community. Its three-fold approach of retraining, reclaiming, and renewing uniquely tackles problems central to the area with its dual mission to recycle furniture and provide job training.
Additionally, the employees that I've interacted with are so invested in the mission and have been really great to work with. Thanks to Second Chance for everything it's doing to better Baltimore City!
They may do a lot in the world of non profits but the customer service is terrible and when contacted about issues you get a pre composed response telling you to what any normal person would if an issue arises and ask for a manger. Having items sold out from under you and waiting 45 minutes for a sales rep is insane.
I just completed a fantastic experience working with Second Chance. After deciding to do a complete tear down on the lot I own in Norther Virginia I contacted Second Chance. I wanted to promote two important causes including the environmentally friendly reuse of the materials of my tear down and as well as to help enable construction related skill building of their staff members at the same time.
They were very professional, prompt, responsive, and easy to work with. They understood the inherit schedule changes in any major construction project. They were very flexible with the scheduling of their work and even accommodated some last minute changes to make sure my construction project could proceed ahead of schedule.
I would definitely recommend Second Chance for anyone who is thinking of tearing down an existing structure. They are pro's! Thank you to Second Chance and all the great people who make this charitable organization thrive!
