We sought out Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue after doing some research on other groups, and found that they were so very serious about placing their GSD's with the right family for the right reason. We adopted Eli in September of 2012, I could not believe how true his bio was, spot on. He is the most loving laid back boy and really wants to please you. Ad in return all he asks and needs is to be loved back. After his long journey on the road back to good health ( with the love and help from all who worked with), I can't imagine life without him. He is an amazing boy. And mama loves her baby E❤
We were already the proud parents of another GSD (female... And very ALPHA), and decided she needed a sibling, and rescue was the on.y way to go. There was an adjustment period but she loves him as much as we do. She lets him know who is in charge from time to time and he lets her know when he heard her the first time. There is nothing like coming home and having both babies great you at the door with so many kisses and so happy to see you.

Is you are looking to adopt this is the group to go thru, great people, great set of standards and they are always there if you need them . Long after you have taken your baby to their furever home. They do wonderful amazing things. They are GSD's Guardian Angels that is fur sure.

I adopted a 2 year old German Shepherd recently, Kaiser. I was very impressed by this group, all volunteers involved in the process were very helpful. They truly care about the dogs they rescue and take the time to make sure the right dog will go with the right family.

I am a volunteer. At present I have adopted two dogs from Second Chance GS Rescue. One is older and very much the love bug. Her temperment shines through. At the last event for the group, she was there as a greeter (Happy Tails). She loved the attention. The other female is almost a year now. She was very sick when I first got her. Taking her through the recovery and deciding to keep her as she fit well with my pack. The Second Chance GS Rescuegroup as a whole is very cohesive. Everyone works well together for the common goal of getting the GSD adopted. I have found it to be very rewarding watching the rehabilitation of the dogs coming through this program. From the time that we get them to the time they go to their forever home. Our volunteers put much time and effort in to make the sure the dog is rehabilitated and that it goes to the right home.

I sought out Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue Houston due to the amazing work they do for the dogs that otherwise have no chance of being adopted or making it out alive from shelters due to their physical condition. Over the past year I have seen Second Chance take in and nuture some of the sickest and saddest cases of neglect and abuse. Second Chance looked past the health issues, the cost involved, and brought these dogs back to the beautiful Shepherds they were meant to be. For these reasons I chose Second Chance German Shepherd when I donated my walkin wheelz cart for hanicapped pets. I considered selling it online, but decided that a nonprofit dog rescue would benefit more. With the number of sick, neglected, and abused German Shepherds Second Chance has taken in it was an honor to be able to contribute in such a small way. Second Chance truly has some Angels in their organization and a blessing to know that there are German Shepherds out there who have these Angels looking out for them.

I have never seen a rescue organization as well run and as tight-knit as Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue. The people work very well together, and they care more for German Shepherds than can be imagined. They will not reject any dog, regardless of history or medical conditions, so long as it passes a temperament test. They pour their hearts, souls, time and money into every dog that comes through the program. All in all, they are just an amazing rescue!

We discovered this wonderful organization by accident. When our dog died recently of old age, we soon realized how much we loved him as a member of the family. We wanted a new companion immediately, and we started to search local shelters. We really wanted a German Shepherd, but the chances of finding one in a shelter was slim.
While my wife was searching shelters on the internet, Second Chance's website appeared as one of the choices. We did not even realize that there were groups out there that fostered specific breeds of dogs, and to find one that fostered German Shepherds was more than we hoped for.
Once we contacted Second Chance, we could tell they were good people.
They loved their foster pets, and we were interviewed thoroughly to make sure that whatever dog we wanted would be a good fit for our family. Our house had a walk-through and the yard was inspected to make sure that the dog would be safe in his new home.
We made several visits to public places where the dogs were greeting potential family members, and then we met Austin and his foster mom, Michelle. Michelle told us about Austin's rough start in life, but Michelle and Second Chance took him in and nursed him back to health. They also gave him the love that he had not received previously.
Austin is now a happy member of our family, and he is spoiled rotten.
The kids love him and play with him whenever they get the chance.
Michelle, her family, and the rest of the the volunteers at Second Chance are taking these German Shepherds into their homes because they love these animals, especially this breed.
No one knows the mind of God, but I have to believe that there is a special place in heaven for those who care for animals that cannot care for themselves.

Volunteering with Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue Houston has become a very large part of my life, and one of which I am extremely proud. This is the most dedicated, caring, group of rescuers I have ever been associated with. I work especially with Intake. When we need a dog in a shelter temperament tested, or picked up and taken to a vet, or delivered to a foster home, people always step up. This group is like a huge family that all get along with each other, and work very hard to save German Shepherds and place them in qualified, loving forever homes. We take the care of the shepherds we rescue very seriously. We completely vet them, love them, and put them in our foster homes until they are ready to be adopted. And since we care so much about our dogs, each person who wants to adopt, must fill out a detailed and lengthy application. We then call their vet and two other references, do a home visit and have several meetings of the foster family, the family wanting to adopt, and the German Shepherd they are hoping to take home with them. We only adopt a dog to families who we feel will love, cherish, and take care of our dog for the rest of his or her life. This has become a passion of our members and for me personally. I am so thankful for this group! Each volunteer makes this group what it is...caring, dedicated, and determined to give a new and happy life to as many German Shepherds as we can.

I adopted a German Shepherd puppy from Second Chance, and found it a
wonderful experience all the way around. The group really cares deeply about the breed, and about making the perfect connection between dog and adopter. They take all family dynamics into consideration, and work hard to make the right match. They are a very active group of volunteers that work tirelessly to find great dogs "furever homes." I just can't imagine my life now without my sweet boy Blitz. Two thumbs up to Second Chance!

I have recently become a foster mom for Second Chance German Sheperd Rescue. The people in this group have been very supportive in every way. I attended an event last weekend and the members were friendly and full of knowledge of this breed. I'm very excited about my future with them and helping to save more dogs.

My husband and I have been a part of this rescue since its inception and we couldn't be prouder of the work that our board and fosters do to give our dogs a second shot at a happy life. Since the early days, we've added volunteers faster than I could have ever imagined and seen our members step up to help in ways we couldn't have anticipated. Our volunteers are flexible, reliable, dedicated and hard working. Our group celebrates all of our successes and grieves the losses. My husband and I took in the first rescue in the group and ended up adopting her. We personally have benefited from the opportunity we had to foster for the group and were lucky enough to find our newest family member as well.

I adore the people who make saving German shepherd's and giving them a second chance at a life filled with love and belly rubs their purpose in life. We adopted our German shepherd from them in April of this year and the volunteers and fosters went above and beyond the call of duty to help us find a perfect fit. Whenever I had a question or concern they were there to offer advice or just to listen. The people of the organization have found their calling and are making a difference not only in the dogs life but the people adopting these amazing dogs and giving them a second chance at life. I will never own another breed of dog nor will I ever use any other organization to adopt through.

We adopted Tosca a couple of months ago and were very impressed with the staff of Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue Houston. From the application stage to the delivery of Tosca to the doorstep. We
also were impressed with the follow up both from them and the prompt response from the staff as well with our questions.

I have been a volunteer with Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue for just a few weeks, but I could not be happier about the passionate commitment that I see everyday in this wonderful group of people. In fact, I have volunteered with other organizations, both big and small, and this is the best. Just by reading the stories and descriptions we have online you can tell how much we love and care for the dogs we foster.

We are not only a group of people who rescue dogs, we are also rooted in friendship. Everyone comes together so well & we have been able to accomplish such great things for these dogs. We work very hard to support each other and our adopters. It is a truly a pleasure to volunteer with this group.

My wife and I are volunteers/fosters for this wonderful organization sice it started in Houston, Texas.

Let me start with the basics of the group. The group has a very knowledgable Board of Directors that have experience in being former members of other rescue groups. The Board is easily accessible and has the group organized well with volunteers in various parts of the Greater Houston area which includes a number of Counties. Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue of Houston maintains an active volunteer roster that has phone numbers and e-mail addresses of its members for the purpose of communicating with each other. The organization has certain members with specific job duties such as people who prefer to do home visits for poential adopters, reference checks on applications, temperment testing, dispersing of medicines to coordinating the intake of German Shepherd Dogs who need to be rescued from kill shelters.

This group holds at least three events a month where our dogs that area available for adoption are brought out for display and hopefully meet their new families to go to there forever home. The events are very casual, friendly and fun. It is neat to see a group of people from many diverse backgrounds and careers unite for a common cause.

Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue networks well in the pet community by maintaining business relationships with PETCO and a number of vets we use to treat our dogs and receive well checks to be sure our GSD's are healthy when they are adopted out.

If you are looking to add a companion to your household, give this group a serious look and complete an adoption form online. I think you will find these special dogs will change your life in a positive way and to know you truly gave your German Shepherd a second chance!

I have been a volunteer with Second Chance for about 10 months now and have LOVED every second of it. Not only because of getting to know the dogs in our program and getting to see them placed with their 'furever' homes, but the compassion and drive behind every volunteer in this group is incredible. Every single person has the same goal in mind and that is to save, rehabilitate and rehome GSD's. Each volunteer puts their heart and soul in to these incredible dogs that we save and it really is so awesome to see a group of people work together so well.
I also have to say the board for this group is awesome and are nothing less than amazing. They are always available to speak with volunteers and are always willing to help in any way they can. It is really neat to see a board that is so involved and always willing to lend a hand to each and every volunteer.
I just can not speak more highly of this group and what we do as a whole. We have awesome dogs in our program, incredible volunteers, wonderful foster homes and the most amazing veterinarians to care for all our 'furbabies!'

I came across this wonderful group accidentally on the internet while looking for a new addition to my family. I submitted my application on a Friday and by Sunday was contacted about attending an upcoming event to meet my prospective new baby. I took my German Shepherd with me to the event. I was greeted by a group of down to earth dog loving people who welcomed me and my dog like we were old friends. Make no mistake this group is meticulous in who they chose to allow their dogs to go home with. The following day Michelle (foster mother) and her family brought my soon to be Tosca to my home which in itself was a big deal as we live about two hours apart. We spent time talking about the expectations of me as a prospective adopter. The thing that sticks with me the most is the complete dedication and determination of this group to ensure the dogs they foster are placed with the best home. Lucky for me I passed the test and am the proud owner of Tosca and very smart stubborn beautiful loving GSD! Months later I still contact Michelle(Tosca's foster mom) for advice and pointers. This group clearly goes above and beyond for their dogs and I am proud to say I am associated with them and their cause. I highly recommend them to anyone who is serious about adopting a GSD.

Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue Houston is an organization full of compassionate volunteers who care deeply about the German Shepherds they save. As a volunteer for the organization, I have seen firsthand the heart & soul that is put into each dog that comes through the program. Dogs are placed in caring foster homes who love & nurture each dog, readying the dog for its forever home. Second Chance does not “cut corners”, as they fully vet each dog, taking care of every medical need, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, heartworm treatment (all hw+ dogs undergo treatment) and any other medical issues. The thing I like most about this organization is that they do not “cherry pick” dogs; rather, if they find a GSD in need of rescue, no matter the extent of the medical expenses, they will take the dog into the program given they have the space.

Volunteering with Second Chance has been such a rewarding experience. Not only have I learned a lot about the German Shepherd breed and had a hand in helping save many dogs, I’ve made many life-long friends. The volunteers of the organization not only care about the German Shepherds, but they care about their volunteers. This is an awesome group with HEART and I could not be prouder to be a volunteer with this organization.
