Second Chance does not take walk-ins from local residents. They only take animals from rescue groups which are seldom in Flagstaff because Flagstaff has very few rescue groups. I would consider helping this group out if they were more locally invested. They are liberally funded by local groups for some reason and don't need my money.
I love our cat Mysterion. He is the best lazy fat mouse hunting loveable huggable feet warming curious cuddable feline ever.!!!
I am thrilled to give my 1st experience with 2nd Chance Center for Animals. My K-9 son's name at birth happened to be "Pongo." He is an English Pointer with no off switch, needless to say, very high energy. Since his adoption he tended to respond to the name "Chuck." The name stuck! Something tells me that the reason he responds may be associated with the expression of something which rhymes with a common superlative "Found Under Carnal Knowledge," having to deal with his energy. Since overcoming and gaining some control... I've come to appreciate his playfulness and through 2nd Chance's behavioral training classes for the "K-9 Good Citizen" training. He has surprised many of his foster family custodians and continues to impress even me his adopted papa and my ability to remain accepting of otherwise embarrassing public displays of alpha behavior. I sincerely want to thank 2nd chance for rescuing me by putting Chuck in my life. In a collective effort to see our K-9 son reach graduation, he will continue to attend classes until he is a k-9 Good citizen. Thanks guys!
I adopted my best bud Angel from SCCA. The amount of love and rehabilitation they showed her is amazing: she was a puppy mill mom who had been locked inside a cage for most of her life - but they gave her a second chance and the start to a wonderful and love-filled life! I am so grateful to see the work they do with these beautiful (and often mistreated) animals. I wanted to much to give back to them I became a volunteer! Now I really get to see how in-depth their care for these animals go. They provide amazing training for staff, owners, and volunteers and really focus on positive reinforcement. Their animals aren't just 'a number in a cage'; I have seen everyone there become truly invested in the care and love of each animal - giving them specialized attention and really catering to each individual personality. Their goal seems to be to show these animals a nicer side to human nature and to show these animals care and compassion so that they may have a second chance at a beautiful and fulfilling life. I absolutely love everything about Second Chance and I am so grateful wonderful people like their staff members come together each day for the care of these loving dogs and cats.
SCC is a great place that helps so many great dogs cats and other pets. Great people who really care.
Just goofing around researching dog breeds on the internet and there she was...my "Angel in Blue Jeans"...Moon Pie, a black and tan coonhound. It was 2008 and it was love at first sight. Moonie had been at SCCA for months and was in shut down. They worked with us in every way to get her from AZ to NM and even met us half way in Gallup, NM. It took two years for her body to heal from being so underweight and overbred, but she blossomed into the most beautiful, sweet, and loving BT coonie in the world. Thanks to SCCA for giving her a chance and God for bringing her to us. Cancer took our angel on Oct 26, 2014 and I still miss her so very much. Thank you SCCA for saving her so we could have her in our life and in our hearts forever.
2nd Chance takes unplaceable animals and makes them placeable.
The staff are miracle workers! Animals that were abandoned and unwanted
and terrified of humans become the gentle, loving animals they truly are
and find their forever homes. I have volunteered for many rescue organizations
and this one is truly the best. The workers and volunteer work diligently to
match animal with their best match. I am so grateful for them!
Volunteers and the training one receives are fantastic! These people really care about animals and their well being. Everyone can find a way to assist either by donations or volunteering to take care of the animals. Well worth the experience!!
I committed to volunteering at Second Chance Center for Animals several years ago now and I get so much out of the experience. A dedicated, kind and professional staff put their hearts and souls into caring for dogs and cats while they wait to be adopted. SCCA is a visible player in the community of Flagstaff working adoption events like Pets in the Pines and creating outreach and fundraising events that educate people on our responsibilities to the animals we have domesticated. SCCA has many dedicated volunteers, a tribute to how this nonprofit executes it mission.
I have adopted 2 dogs and 3 cats from Second Chance and have been a volunteer there for 5 years. I love the organization for the way they treat the animals - like the precious, innocent, lovable beings they are. At SCCA, the dogs all have large outdoor play areas and are frequently walked both onsite and off, giving them great socialization opportunities. The cats have a huge room with many play options, as well as an enclosed outdoor area that they have easy access for sunning and playing. All animals are given plenty of time to adjust to their environment before being allowed to roam with the others, and those who need extra time or special arrangements get it. I love the staff there, as well. They are very professional and caring. I am proud to be mom to my dogs Flipper and Polar, and my cats Shanti, Dillon, and Pixie (as well as the others who are not from SCCA, Princess the Chihuahua and RatCat the Maine Coon).
Second Chance is a no-kill shelter with high visibility in the Flagstaff community and the northern Arizona region in general. They work hard, with very little in the way of financial resources, to provide homes for animals that might otherwise be put down. They take in birds, horses, cats, and dogs alike. I have rescued two dogs from this shelter, and the staff are dedicated to finding not just any home for their rescues, but a GOOD home for them. They screen adopters carefully. If they do not think the adoption is a good fit, they will not send the animal home with the potential adopter. They offer dog training courses, and they have volunteers who come in just to take dogs for walks and hikes. All of their staff receive behavioral training to reinforce desired behavior in the dogs so that the y will have an easier time transitioning to a permanent home. This is an exceptional non-profit organization!
Is there anything better than a 'Second Chance'? Wouldn't we all appreciate a second chance at any number of our decisions in life? Give to this wonderful organization that gives a 'Second Chance' to beautiful animals needing that opportunity. They live at SCCA until they are adopted into their Forever Home. As long as it takes.
My family and I have adopted two cats and a dog from Second Chance Center over the years. The staff and been excellent with their attitude and assistance and they do a wonderful job helping these animals find their forever home. I cannot say enough in praise for their work and attitude.
Second Chance Center for Animals (SCCA) is an amazing, loving place for our fury friends. The staff is sincerely committed, the facility is clean, organized and runs efficiently, and everyone who gives their time there really, truly cares for the animals. I loved my experience as a volunteer!
Second Chance is the BEST! I adopted my dog Gumbo several years ago and the staff still remembers him whenever they see him! About a week after I adopted him he escaped from my yard and ran away. I went to Second Chance hoping for any kind of help or advice. Mark and a couple other employees not only came out to the woods by my house but they also brought one of Gumbo's former playmates hoping he would come to her. He didn't, but they helped me search until it was almost dark. I was touched that they would go to all that effort. Gumbo did come home later that night and when I called Second Chance to tell them they sounded as relieved as I was! Everyone at Second Chance cares deeply about the animals in their care!
SCCA is one of the most amazing organizations I've ever seen. The people who work their have hearts of gold. They search hard to find homes for needy animals. And, in the meantime, they love those animals like they were their own. It's the kind of place you dream of. It's the kind of place that makes people and animals' dreams come true.
SCCA is a wonderful organization! We took in a stray dog and one month later she gave birth to 7 adorable puppies. We were only able to keep one of the puppies, and our attempts to find homes for the remaining 6 were fruitless. SCCA was an absolute miracle for us. They agreed to take in the puppies at 8 weeks old and found them all loving forever homes. We are forever grateful. While we often wonder where the puppies are, we never worry about their happiness or safety because we know that SCCA does such an amazing job placing animals in loving homes.
While any time a non-profit animal group can save animals it is good, every time I have visited this center, I have a sinking feeling that something is not on the up and up. They rarely take adult dogs or dogs that are not super cute minatures. Every time I have visited this center, they are less than 1/2 full. The guy who runs it makes excuses about this fact. In my opinion they should spend a bit of their funding on helping cases where animals are older, may need behavioral work for being shy, or senior dogs. There is something that I just don't trust about the people who run this center.
Second Chance is amazing! This place personifies why animals enrich humans lives! One of the only shelters I know of that allows a dog to stay there for his/her entire life, if they can't find a suitable home.
I love this place. They take in the most vulnerable animals and find them a home- what a great way to make the world a better place.
Having worked in the animal welfare field for over thirty years, I can say that I have never worked for, worked with or known of an organization like Second Chance Center for Animals. Their work of only and exclusively rescuing from other rescues, makes them unique in this field. I am proud to be a part of such a unique organization doing such important, life saving work!
We got our puppy from here 2 months ago. They have a pretty extensive adoption process, including a meet and greet with the dog we already had. They got along beautifully. It has been such a great experience and we feel so lucky to have adopted from Second Chance. The animals are treated with such care and respect. The dogs are so much happier here than any other shelter I've ever been to.
Second Chance does so many positive things for our community. I work with the Community Blood Drive Program and they have partnered with us on blood drives to help raise awreness of the need for blood. They also have educational spay and neuter programs and their vet facility has spayed some of my pets as well as pets of countless friends and neighbors who also count on their low cost vaccination clinics. They have many events giving their animals up for adoption an additional chance to find a new home. I do not know what we did prior to Second Chance for Animals. I am happy to support them and that they are a part og the Flagstaff Community.
We decided to adopt a puppy from Second Chance after losing our beloved
Lizzie ,she was a yellow Labrador and she gave us 14yrs of unconditional love ,we still miss her.
We found Zoe at Second chance and she captured our hearts the first time we saw her she is the cutest best dog very lovable. Thank you Second Chance !
I would recommend Second Chance to anyone looking for that special pet , the staff are caring and dedicated to finding homes for these animals
Second Chance is the hardest working charity, trying to find homes for deserving animals. They are all dedicated animal lovers struggling to help animals. They have a convenient way to donate on their website when you make any purchase thru Pets Mart online.
I know the people at Second Chance and am impressed by the love they show for animals and the professional way they reach out to help. They are terrific partners in the community and work with other groups that help animals with a generosity that I have not always seen. I don't have a lot of money, but have helped run events for them and my husband and I give what we can. When our cat died at the age of 17, my husband brought cat food, toys and treats to Second Chance to help other animals and then came home to me describing how he broke down and cried as he gave our beloved cat's treasures to help another animal. The understanding and help at Second Chance extends to humans as well. If there were 6 stars, I would give them that rating.
My fiance and I decided to adopt our first animal together this year and we had only heard amazing things from friends about Second Chance so we knew that is where we wanted to go. We fell in love with the most adorable little pup and had to have him! We went back to the Vet at Second Chance to get all of his puppy shots as well. 9 months later and I am still convinced that we made the best choice EVER and have the BEST dog in all the land. He is the smartest pup and was a absolute perfect match for us!
SCCA is one of the best non-profits in our city. I happen to be a huge advocate of no-kill shelters, and wish that someday I can open one of my own. I adopted my baby girl, Luna, in August of 2010, after volunteering and working with them also on a professional level. The experience was amazing. You can tell that they love all animals they come into their shelter and are determined to find the best home possible for them.
I don't know what I would do without my Luna! Thanks, Second Chance!
A few years ago, we were looking for a small companion dog. We went to the Humane Society, and I left in tears, not only because they didn't have a suitable dog, but I felt so badly for the dogs there that I wanted to take them all home. It took a few months to recover from that, but finally we went to Second Chance. What a difference! The dogs weren't locked in kennels all day; they were outside in play groups, and looked happy. We found a wonderful little dog there, and the staff was amazing! We left with Gigi (shelter name CG) and a bag of goodies for her. It was a wonderful experience, and I recommend Second Chance to anyone who is looking for a companion animal.
I am actually an employee at second chance but I did start out as a volunteer. I really love second chance, the staff and volunteers are some of the most caring people I have ever meet, I have seen these guys pay outta pocket for things that aren't in the budget but the animals would enjoy. My puppy who was dropped off in our parking lot is now 8 months old and on her way to being a service dog with second chances training classes. Second chance does training with the animals and does everything possible to help with their adoptability and tries to make their stay as stress free as possible.
I have been a volunteer at Second Chance for quite sometime now. I absolutely love the way try take care of the animals and the staff is really nice and helpful. The dogs get to go outside at least three times a day and they also get walked over a mile a day. The staff and volunteers really work hard to make the dogs feel comfortable and give each one attention. Every dog gets known personally and doesn't get treated like a number. They also put so much effort into the adoption process. They want the dogs to go to the best homes possible and do an extensive adoption process to make sure the dogs go to the right homes. Not only does Second Chance treat their dogs well, but the cats get indoor and an enclosed outdoor space to play and lay around. All the animals get clean kennels every day and fresh blankets and many treats. This is a good place to adopt a pet because the people put so much effort into making them adoptable and they give them a lot of care. I couldn't imagine adopting a pet from anywhere else.
I have volunteered for about a year there, and i am always very proud of the animals and the staff. I have seen animals bounce back to a loving animal after being a stray. I am in love with this place. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an animal to adopt.
We had a birthday party for our daughter at Second Chance Animal Center. The kids had such a fun time! We are always impressed by the cleanliness of this facility and how well it seems to be run. We will definitely return again possibly for some camps this summer, and definitely to see the animals! I'm glad Flagstaff has a place like this!
