I have been a volunteer at Animal Talk Rescue for over 3 years. For the first 2.5 years I volunteered 6 hours a week. I would come in twice a week to help take care of the rescue cats; kittens and adults. I also fostered kittens. It has been personally satisfying knowing that I am helping abandoned and helpless animals recover from injuries, sickness and become socialized so they can be adopted into loving homes. It has been fun working with other volunteers who share the same passion. In the last year, I made the choice to get even more involved by taking a position on the Board of Directors to help bring about positive changes for ATR. As I type this review, those changes are now occurring. Negotiations on a new updated building are in the works. All of our cats, kittens and a few dogs are entering foster homes where they can grow in a less stressful environment until the new building is ready. A new, full time staff member has been hired to watch over and care for the animals. We have dedicated volunteers who are helping with foster home coordination, adoption events, scheduling medical care and various other tasks. The support for these changes and the support of the volunteers has been overwhelming. I look forward to continued involvement for years to come and helping as many of these animals as possible.

I've been a supporter and customer of Animal Talk ever since I wandered in earlier this year. The shelter is run by Missy, the owner of the Animal Talk Pet Store, and co-exists with the store in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle. The main focus of the shelter is feral and abandoned felines, but they provide food and shelter to a wide variety of animals. According to their web site (http://www.animaltalkrescue.org/) in 2007 they were able to place 1155 cats into adoptive homes!! This is all done on a shoestring budget with the help of a crew of volunteers and the owner.
