Scruff-- Spaying Capital Region Unowned Feral Felines--is an all-volunteer organization of dedicated veterinarians, vet techs and volunteers. We recognize the growing problem of unowned feral cats in our area. In New York State, the law does not provide any guidance regarding cats whether free-roaming or owned pets. Scruff's mission is to provide high-quality, comprehensive Trap-Neuter-Return at an extremely low cost. Most spay/neuter charges range between $85 and $150. Scruff asks a donation of $35 for this service, which provides surgery, rabies and distemper vaccines, anesthesia, pain meds and parasite med. I was amazed by this. I have been a volunteer with Scruff for over one year. I am a semi-retired teacher and therefore have no skills related to Scruff's goal other than love of animals and willingness to do what I can to support its important work. I continue to be inspired by the highest level of professionalism and medical skills demonstrated by the probono vets (usually 4 or 5 each Spay Day) and a team of probono vet techs. They give themselves completely to do this work which results in fewer kittens born in the wild, a healthier life for the ferals who return to their colonies, and fewer nuisance complaints in neighborhoods. Scruff's hotline offers assistance to the public with questions about feral cats: 518-526-3372. There is no other organization in our area that provides high quality, low cost spay/neuter. Please spread the word and consider supporting Scruff. Thank you. Jeanine
