Mission: Our mission is to provide one-on-one tutoring and educational advocacy for school aged youth impacted by homelessness.
Programs: Tutors in action is an academic intervention program for youth experiencing homelessness that works to improve core skills across all academic subjects for grades k-12. These core skills are developed through one-on-one tutoring sessions three to four nights a week in one of school on wheels' ten indianapolis partner locations. Tutors in action uses more than 400 community volunteers to tutor over 350 students each year, and provides them with school uniforms and supplies in order to equip each student with the tools they need to succeed academically.
ignite learning is a program that supports the parents of school on wheels students, and is dedicated to working with these parents to help them overcome challenges in facilitating their child's education. Through this program, school on wheels connects parents, teachers and social workers to create a comprehensive snapshot of each child's academic performance. Ignite learning offers workshops, office hours and personalized approaches to each parent to help them meet their child's unique educational needs.
